chip, do you know anything about this ugly creepy dude, a Muslim convert, in Ireland, who was arrested for threatening to kill Obama when he visits?

Hi Dotser, just read about it a while ago – here’s the report from the Irish Times:

GARDAÍ (police) ARE questioning a man about remarks he allegedly made in a newspaper interview in which he was reported as saying he would harm US president Barack Obama if he could. The arrested man, who is Irish but converted to Islam while living in the Middle East a number of years ago, was arrested yesterday morning at his home in Dublin’s north inner city. He is originally from the inner city.

The suspect, who is 44 years old, is reported to have told a journalist that, if he was unknown or could somehow be unrecognisable in Dublin, he would like to “do something” to Mr Obama. He was reported as saying he would be happy if Mr Obama was killed, reportedly describing him as an enemy of Islam.

The suspect is known to gardaí for some of the extreme views he has previously expressed. He has given interviews in which he has made comments sympathising with Islamic extremists, including those engaged in terrorism.

However, The Irish Times understands he is being questioned merely about his alleged comments in the article published in recent days. There is no evidence he had any intention of acting on the views ascribed to him.

The man’s alleged comments about Mr Obama come less than two weeks before the US president visits the Republic, as one of the biggest security operations in the State is being put in place.

The suspect was taken to Store Street Garda station where he was being held last night under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. He can be held for up to 72 hours without charge.

Unfortunately, these nutjobs are everywhere, but thankfully this creep will be watched for every minute of the President’s visit to Ireland.

Thanks for the additional info. You are so right that there are nutjobs everywhere. We’ve got more than our fair share here. I just hate to read stories like this. I’m nervous enough about this kind of stuff as it is.

Like you Dotser, I worry about the safety of the President every day, all we can do is trust in his security people. These are deeply worrying times, though, the levels of hatred are bewildering.

You know, it’s a disgrace that anyone would want to hurt President Obama. He is one of the absolute nicest people I have ever experienced watching, listening to, and even researching. As for Muslims hating him, he has shown to be more a friend of Islam than I’ve seen any other president attempt to be. And for those who wish him dead, they are operating in wickedness and their views have nothing to do with Islam, Christianity, anything Godly. They have all been co-opted by the rightwing buffoonery which we here have been subjected to for the last 3 or so years. God bless and always, always protect President Obama.

I love seeing behind the scenes clips of the President. Those who say he is cold, aloof, has no sense of humor… I say.. HA! We who love him, know he is warm, delightful and has a wicked sense of humor. 🙂

I am constantly amazed at the so-called “professional interviewer’s” at how they seem to lose their minds when they are around POTUS. We average American’s, I can understand, but Barbara WaWa, Ofrey, and Harry just seem to have these out of body experiences. You WILL never out shine POTUS when he is around. It was nice to see POTUS behind the scenes – he is so relaxed and makes those around him (except interviewers) feel relaxed. I am gonna have to try to be in an audience at a Town Hall meeting here in Southern California. Thanks Chipsticks and “N”.

GGail, I know what u mean. I was watching John Hamm from Madmen tv show on Ellen Degeneres yesterday and apparently he met PBO at the correspondent’s dinner and he said he turned into a little kid and felt that he was underdressed while wearing a tuxedo. 🙂

He is such a people person- always so interested in the folks around him… and ever notice how folks are always smiling and laughing around him, in photos, in videos.. he is such a natural at inviting folks in.

As to the media personalities, I don’t care how nice they may appear, I don’t like them, I don’t trust them & frankly I wish we could do without them allll the time 😉

I agree with you Sherijr!!! I trust none of them and dislike every single one of these media idiots who will do and say anything to cast President Obama in bad light!!! They all suck and I especially dislike this Harry idiot at CBS who has a similar O’reilly chip on his equally cowardly, buffonish shoulders!!!

AS HEAVY AS HIS SCHEDULE ALWAYS IS…PRESIDENT OBAMA ALWAYS FINDS TIME TO SMILE FOR EVERYONE’S CAMERA DEMANDS AND HE IS A GENTLEMAN IN THE CROWD!

Sue, I couldn’t agree with you more…I think this is one of the (many) things that make some folks so mad! Not that I believe President Obama can walk on water, but I do believe there are very few people who walk among us, like this man. If these (truly) angry people would/could take minute to take a breath, they would/could learn something from President Obama…I know that I have!! I’M IN!!!!

I think the President has never met a camera he didn’t like. I’m sure it can’t be that easy to smile all the time, there are some days when you feel like saying get the heck out of my face with that camera. But he knew all this came along with the job.

Did the First Lady take the day off today? I didn’t see anything about her today. I miss her. Also she will be giving the graduation speech at Spellman college Sunday May 15th. I can’t wait.

It looked like 95% of that audience took out their cameras when he told them it was okay. Wow.
