Michael Tomasky (Daily Beast): I don’t know much in this life. I can’t tell you who’s going to win the NBA championship or when the Pakistani ISI will become a bulwark against extremism or what year Keith Richards’ lungs will finally cry uncle. But I do know this: Newt Gingrich will never be president of the United States.
… Far from having a serious chance of making it to the Oval Office, his actions (and inactions) have rendered himself less electable than Michele Bachmann – and for two main reasons.
The first is his legendary lack of discipline, which shows up in far more than his tendency to launch rhetorical projectiles from his mouth at regular intervals ….But that’s nothing compared to his second … his accomplishments as a public figure.
Here was the third most powerful figure in American politics, behind only the president and vice president, for several years. Surely he helped shepherd historic legislation into law? Accomplished something vaguely statesmanlike? Actually, no.
…Imagine a Gingrich who actually dedicated himself to broadening the GOP’s appeal and using his not inconsiderable intelligence toward the end of sowing the earth instead of scorching it as he has in so many ways, from the Tom-Foley-is-gay rumor (which emanated from his staff) to his pyrotechnic ravings against the Lower Manhattan mosque.
That Gingrich might actually have had a shot at being president. But that Gingrich would be “not Newt,” as would a Gingrich who refused to use his third wife as a prop to flog his conversion to right-wing social conservatism. “Not Newt” would be a serious contender. But plain old Newt? He’s nothing but comic relief.

Excellent article and cartoon! Two thumbs UP!
I want to barf everytime I see this vile man’s face. Leaving his wives on their sick beds, his racist, vile comments about our President. Are these the “great” ideas the stupid, corrupt media keeps touting about this evil, pathetic loser?
2012 Election Poem dedicated to Newt:
“Donkey, donkey old and gray
donkey let us hear you bray
donkey, donkey carry on
donkey raise your tail and blow your horn.”
P.S. Hopefruit: Suggestion = drop the last ‘donkey’ in true childish sing-song fashion. 😉
Good point – will do. 🙂 🙂
Beautiful hopefruit!!!! I love it 🙂
ROFL, I like that, Lol, Hopefruit, you’re on a roll, I like 🙂
NEWT IS DEFINITELY COMIC RELIEF…IF THE CARTOONIST HAD PLACED NEWT’S PROFILE ON THE FIRE HYDRANT….THE DOG WOULD HAVE BEEN ALOT HAPPIER!!!!!…LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL….THE LENGTHY LIST JUST GETS LONGER…SOON WE’LL HAVE ENUFF FOR A ROLL AND WE CAN ‘SQUEEZE THE CHARMIN!’
Chris Mathews focused a good portion of his show to the clown that is the GRINCH. He was very scathing and uncomplimentary too. The best part of the show was the last 2 minutes, his Let Me Finish monologue-hahaha, listen to me, which part of Chris’ show isn’t a monologue?-anywhoooo,his last 2 minutes was a slap in the face to the GRINCH. I’m suprised the old asshat’s ears aren’t falling off.
ps- for those who missed it, it re-airs at 7pm tonight.
Chris is on a roll tonight! The first segment of his show was very good too. He basically embarrassed Politico “journalist” Jeanne Cummings who tried with all her might to defend Gingrich from accusations of race baiting. She eventually had no choice but to admit that it was race-baiting because she was beginning to sound ridiculous to the point of being almost delusional.
you gotta love Chris. That man is rocking. Almost felt bad for Jeanne as he was grilling her…did she not realize who’s show she was on? In the words of Chris: “Ha!”
Okay, I’m a listening
Thanks for the comic relief! That cartoon is perfect!
