fair and balanced!

ThinkProgress: One week after President Obama announced the death of Osama bin Laden, the AP reports this afternoon on who we can expect to hear from on this week’s Sunday political talk shows:

ABC’s “This Week” — National security adviser Tom Donilon; Pakistan’s ambassador to the U.S., Husain Haqqani; former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

NBC’s “Meet the Press” — Donilon; former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff; former CIA Director Michael Hayden; former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

CBS’ “Face the Nation” — Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass.; former Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld.

CNN’s “State of the Union” — Donilon; Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind.; NATO’s secretary-general, Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

“Fox News Sunday” — Donilon; former Vice President Dick Cheney.

That’s right. Despite the fact that President Obama gave the order to take down bin Laden, only one Obama administration official will take part in this Sunday’s festivities. By contrast, there are 5 former Bush administration officials making appearances. In total, 7 Republicans are on the networks this Sunday versus 2 Democrats. Torture apologists have been arguing this week that Bush’s torture program is responsible for getting bin Laden. Conveniently, this Sunday, some of the Bush administration officials involved in authorizing it will get their chance to defend themselves.

Steve Benen: ……by my count, nine Republicans from Congress or the Bush administration will be on this morning, as compared to three Democrats from Congress or the Obama administration. In other words, it’s a fairly typical Sunday – even after a major success story for a Democratic White House.

Right there. I see a lot of comments on the blogosphere about how Dems are failing the messaging war. It’s easy to see why when the MSM won’t invite them on. There seems to be some misconception that Dems can book themselves onto these shows anytime they want to.

Come on now, obviously the president selected Tom Donilon to be the mouthpiece on this issue, which is why he’s on ALL the shows. Yes, total number of repub vices is larger, but as far as the Obama Admin. getting its message out, and representing a variety of perspectives it looks like each individual show is being pretty fair. Now if they continuously cut Dems short and let Repubs speak at length, wake me up and I’ll start hollerin.

I’ll just say I disagree, but that’s par for the course with these assholes. Meanwhile, HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO ALL THE MOMMIES HERE…..BE BLESSED AND ENJOY ALL THE FRUITS OF OUR LABORS AS NURTURERS TO THE UNIVERSE… 😀

Isn’t that just unbelievable? No matter what the news, there is always a flood of Republicans invited on those programs to provide “balance”, or rather an opportunity to tamp down Democratic enthusiasm and to continue to spread Republican propaganda. It’s especially egregious and telling this week. We’re up against a huge corporate-driven, billionaire-backed, powerful force. That is why it is so essential that all hands are on deck on our side and on the same page. It’s so maddening that we still have supposed Dems/liberals who don’t realize that, or don’t care, and are willing to risk it all for their selfish, egotistic meanderings.

A wonderful and warm Mother’s Day to all Mothers everywhere, and all who love and appreciate them. I know my Mom is one of the most important people in my world and I will always be greatful for the many ways she has blessed me.

Our MSM is dysfunctional and an insult and assault to our thinking and the healthy functioning of our Democracy.
Bobfr is on the right track, we need to become part of a new movement promoting the dissemination of honest information and balanced perspectives. More fact, less opinion. Expanded discussion of issues, less drama and fabricated controversy. Real conversations, less stage craft. The MSM treats the Republican party/message as baseline for the majority of Americans, which is biased and inaccurate. Time for us to move the goalposts.

A very special Mothers Day wish to our FLOTUS and Marion Robinson…..they deserve extra love, attention and appreciation for all they are and all they do. God Bless them always.

Fair and balance is a term that some highly paid PR person working for FOX News came up with.

    It is an oxymoron.

If the news organizations admonished their journalists to do their jobs by investigating and reporting the facts as professionals fair and balanced catchy PR phrases would not be necessary. Since that is not the case we must work with what we are dealt.

The DEMS need to unleash the BIG GUNS and soon.

The tag line goes if it’s Sunday – It’s Meet The Press. I thought this comment from the Steve Benen post was spot on:

If it’s Sunday, It’s Meet the Republicans

Roaches coming out of their disgusting woodworks is all I think of when I see all these failed Republican persons all over the tv. Our smart, calculating, unsentimental, Democrat President Obama found and killed Bin Laden! The GOP along with the failed worst President in Americana history wore flight suits, yelled a lot then gave up.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO YOU ALL:-)

I was watching Rudy Guliani ..was praising the President while in NY….I think he was able to see up close and personal to how down to earth and compassionate our President was….further more he saw, how these firefighters and policeman and the people of NY obsolutely LOVED POTUS .

And for yakking talking heads on the Sunday shows…..let’s remember that our PRESIDENT…will shut all this nonsense down tonight on 60 MINUTES……SO HAPPY WATCHING TONIGHT….

Happy Mother’s Day to all the fine moms who post here and to everyone’s mom.

Chipsticks, as you know, it was upon learning of the abomination of a Sunday dedicated to torture advocates and otherwise war criminals that induced me to write and post what I shared with you and others yesterday. We are so much less of the democracy America should and must be because of the fail of our broadcast TV/radio/cable/print media. Will be trying to find ways to change that situation.

I can’t watch too many news programs any more because they are all so lazy, unintelligent and uninformative. They just go with the flow of whatever the gossip of the week. The Repubs realize this, plant the story and the media just runs with it. And they can’t figure out why their ratings have gone down so badly. No one respects the field anymore. As for the Bushies they just look pathetic! Still trying to repair their damage record. The President has moved the country forward. I too sometimes want him to fight more in the Press but he seems to enjoy just proving them wrong. Why get into a shouting match with the old administration? That’s what they want that’s what the media want to help with their rating slump. I should’ve known the President was up to something a few weeks back when he agreed to the allow the trials at Guatuanamo (sp)to continue. He is about to get all the old Administration stuff off his desk and they know it. And why not since he can’t get anything legislatively done. I can’t wait to see what will be going on by the end of year!

There was one little bright spot on Fox today–Cheney credited PBO with ridding the world of OBL.

On Fox News Sunday former vice president Dick Cheney explained to his own party why Obama deserves credit for getting Osama Bin Laden. Cheney said, “It’s no question that was his responsibility and I think he handled it well.”

    /snip/

According to Fox News, Chris Wallace asked Dick Cheney how much credit Obama deserves for getting Bin Laden. Cheney answered,

Well, I think you’ve got to give him a lot of credit for making the decision to have SEAL Team Six conduct the raid that got bin Laden. There is no question that was his responsibility. And I think he handled it well. I give him high marks for it, for making that decision.

I still am concerned about the fact that I think a lot of the techniques that we had used to keep the country safe for more than seven years are no longer available. That they’ve been sort of taken off the table, if you will.

When the president first came into office, he moved to close Guantanamo. He has had to give up on that now. He also suspended the enhanced interrogation program and substituted the provisions of the U.S. Army Manual for that purpose. So, it’s not clear to me today if we still have an interrogation program that we can put somebody through should we capture a high-value detainee that had crucial information.

If I’m not mistaken, Cheney also admitted that the Obama Administration didn’t use torture to get OBL!!

Someone, please tell me, am I dreaming?

First, thanks for providing the correct spelling for Guantanamo! I butched it above LOL! I can’t give Cheney credit because he, Rice, and all the other big wigs Bushies have come out swinging hard against the President.
