equal credit?!

ThinkProgress: Politico reports that supporters of George W. Bush are “irked” that the former president isn’t getting more credit for the killing of Osama bin Laden, despite the droves of conservatives lawmakers and pundits who have been rushing to give Bush equal credit as Obama.

But this praise for Bush relies on rewriting history to obscure the fact Obama re-prioritized the hunt for Bin Laden after Bush had largely abandoned the effort to focus on Iraq.

…Asked about the hunt for Bin Laden at a March, 2002 press conference, Bush said, “I truly am not that concerned about him. I am deeply concerned about Iraq.” “I really just don’t spend that much time on him, to be honest with you,” Bush added.

By 2006, the trail for Bin Laden had gone “stone cold” … That year, it was revealed that the administration had shuttered the CIA’s Bin Laden unit in late 2005…

…the Bush administration blew a critical opportunity to capture Bin Laden in 2001. Bin Laden was wounded and on the run, but top Bush national security officials rejected repeated pleas for reinforcements from commanders and intelligence officials fighting the terrorist leader in the caves of Tora Bora, despite the availability of resources…. decisions made by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, his deputies, and other top administration officials allowed Bin Laden to escape.

The consequence of this missed opportunity are tremendous. As Lt. Col. Reid Sawyer, the director of the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point, told NPR yesterday, “if bin Laden had been killed in Afghanistan eight years ago in the caves of Tora Bora, al-Qaida might well have died with him. Now the organization is diversified enough it could weather bin Laden’s death – and hardly miss a beat.”….

Comment of the day! – LOL: So let me get this straight….Obama has to stop blaming Bush for the bad economy he inherited because it has been 2.5 yrs, BUT Obama has to give credit to Bush for capturing Bin Laden even though Bush hasn’t seen the inside of the Situation room in 2.5 yrs- yeah, I Must have forgotten (IOKIYAAR)- Its OK If You Are A Republican)

WSJ Writer Says Obama Is Allowed To Visit Ground Zero Now.
”Mr. Obama has been a controversial figure in what many consider hallowed ground.”

They make me sick, all of them.

      Me too- freaking hypocrites.

      Wow.

It was written by Carol E Lee (http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2011/05/02/obama-to-visit-ground-zero/) who left Politico for the WSJ a couple of months ago. Her reporting at Politico on the President was endlessly nasty and negative, and she seemed to have a particular problem with Michelle – eg she talked about her “jet-setting” around America during the Presidential campaign. How else do you campaign around America other than by jet?? Funny, she never made the same observation about Cindy McCain.

I suspect she’s so desperately bitter about bin Laden’s killing she let her inner bigot slip out today.

That is one of the most vile things I have ever heard. WSJ has indeed become a scum pond. I hope I live long enough to have history exam the way these people have behaved. It is not that he is a democrat. It is that he is black, brilliant, handsome, accomplished and has grace. Characteristics those on the right do not have.

I hate them all. This SE Cupp bitch was just on Msnbc saying catching bin Laden was not why he was elected and if the economy doesn’t remain steady he could have a problem. Bashir allowed her to spew this garbage unchallenged. I hate rethugs and their enabling media.

That’s all they do…move the goalposts. When the economy starts to REALLY improve they will come up with another issue.

Precisely! They keep moving the goal posts as President Obama gracefully scales every astonishingly impossible course and racks up incredible accomplishments!
They can’t take it and they are losing their freaking minds!

What exactly has SE Cupp done for the country? Right… And we’re supposed to give her credibility against the President? Why? The President was elected to BE President, and that includes finding terrorists. She’s clearly an idiot.

I do feel sorry for all these right wing racists who simply cannot allow themselves to feel any relief from this latest development. Hate is a bad thing, and they are missing out on history.

People like this have never mattered. The crowds all over the country who celebrated this and are grateful for the president’s actions are the ones that matter.

I found a video of the reaction of the cadets at a naval academy regarding this. Great to view(I have no idea how to post videos) I followed a link from BWD

My fellow Americans, it is killing them, it’s eating these guys up, that this President brought down bin Landen. They can’t take it. They are all set to re-write history, in other words LIE. Barack Obama brought down bin Laden in two years, G.W. had eight years. These Republicans can’t take it. GOOD!!!!!!

That’s right! President Obama has remained ten steps of the republikkkans and they are losing their minds scrambling to stop him! It is sad and funny to watch the lunacy fighting the best President we ever had!

You are so point on, anniebella. They just cannot take it. I even saw a person in the audience last evening at the WH not joining in the recognition of what the President, his team, and our great Special Forces accomplished in killing bin Laden. Now you realize that is just ugly. Not clapping at all. These people are so hateful and nasty, and nothing good will come to them because of all of the negative energy that they release into their space daily. That must be sad. But we will continue to support, pray, operate in positive beautiful and firm energy, and we will win and make a good difference in our world.

You’re all correct. These folks don’t matter. 93% of the American people are happy that OBL is gone, and guess what? They give top credit to the military and the CIA. The rw whiners, PL, firebaggers, and frustrati can continue doing what they do best: whine, stomp their feet, move the goalposts, and pitch hissy fits. PBO, his security team, the CIA, and a very special military unit did what GWB couldn’t do: they got OBL, and the main reason the mission was accomplished is because PBO made it a top priority. The whiners are out of sorts because never in their lifetime did they think that a skinny, cerebral fellow with a funny sounding name would be the POTUS who would bring so much relief to the world by ridding it of OBL.

    Majii,

I especially like your last line, but the only thing that I would add the descriptors is “black.”. This, more than anything, is what they hate the most.

I have to admit I was worried yesterday with the Republicans’ rhetoric, but today I am encouraged. The American people know what happened and it isn’t going to stick this time.
