No sadness, nor rage from me. Just resolve. We need to be as strong, focused, and on purpose as PBO.

This man was beautiful, though, and spoke for so many. I hope this goes viral. Like he said, our forefathers paid the price, we will have to do our part. No let up for Donald Chump, his sympathizers, or the media that distracts and distorts. Enough.

I’m glad to see this. Good work. Rage us useless – it’s unchannelled energy. Let’s channel this energy – and focus on what works best for the US. For blacks and whites – for us.

Thank you for posting this, Chippy. 🙂 This video had me in tears – as an African American, I know EXACTLY how Mr. Baratunde feels. I feel this should go viral for all to see, so they can understand. Thanks again. 🙂

I watched Trump live earlier today, TBS – I know hate is a corrosive emotion, and I know he’s not worthy of any reaction at all, but I truly, truly despise that worthless piece of racist shit.

Amazing, heart felt and so much pain. I just sent it to a bunch of friends. I hate these people. I agree with your chips, I hate to give in to letting some piece of the filthiest white trash make me feel so angry, but some times, it just has to be dealt with. I want revenge.

Did you all see Douglas Brinkley, who is one of my favorite presidential scholars, announced in an interview today, that NBC, must not renew the chump’s show. He is angry. I think we should start a campaign.

Here are some NBC email addresses:
NBC News Today: today@nbc.com—– nightly@nbc.com Let’s fight for getting rid of that asshole.

I am also sorry for all that pain that everyone here is feeling. dr

My comment posted at Jack & Jill:

Baratunde Thurston (Jack Turner) this 64 y/o, white male, born in South Texas – an outspoken supporter of MLK and RFK Jr in the 60s in South Texas when that meant ensuring lots of other white folk hated me – who long since departed those environs to pursue medicine, science in order to bring a better life to all those who never had the opportunities I had – HONOR YOU, this day, for your courage, for your insights, for your wisdom.

Long, long, long ago, I understood that no matter how much I truly empathized with my black and brown beloved colleagues, I was totally incapable of ever understanding what it must be like to be hated and feared, merely because of the hue of skin. So, I learned never to presume to have even the slightest clue what it must be like to be you, to be any black or brown person whom has ever lived.

But, from that perspective I also can share with you the most profound disgust for any ‘white’ person who presumed superiority merely because they happened to have been born ‘white.’ That is something this ‘white’ person can speak with authority – I AM SUPERIOR TO NO PERSON – not only because that my skin happens to be ‘white’ but because – NO PERSON IS SUPERIOR TO ANY OTHER PERSON. PERIOD.

I extend love, a cascade of tears, and an unrelenting commitment to support our President Obama and the dreams and rights of EVERY person.

Thank you for the gift of your video, your passion, your openness, and I will do everything I can to be sure that every person hears your message.

      Thank you!

I’m not angry, and I’m not sad, but I am resolved to work my butt off to get PBO re-elected in 2012. I don’t have time for the emotions that will surely depress me and weaken my spirit. I’ve seen this all before when I grew up under segregation. The best solution then is the best solution now—WIN AND PROVE THEM WRONG!

There’s nothing quite as satisfying as pushing your success down your opponents’ throats while they stand there with their mouths open wondering how you did it in spite of their best efforts to stop you.

I have to agree. The Republican right wingers saw the joy and love on the faces of the people in Grant Park and then again on Inauguration Day and it scared the crap out of them. The first thing they did was to set about killing the joy. They wanted to take our happiness away from us and our pride in the President. Don’t let them do it. Every evil thing they have done and said has been calculated to steal away our pride, joy and energy. Don’t allow that to happen.

I’m enraged by this. I know racism may be a bit more subtle in the mainstream compared to the 1950s but it is still alive and well. Unfortunately, we (minorities) still go through it. It makes me furious how these folks don’t want to respect the office of the President and more importantly the President himself. It’s all because of his skin color. Sad. Just wow. I’m disgusted and ashamed.

This made me cry also but I can relate to what Majii said. This should only make us even more determined to prove them wrong and reelect our wonderful president in 2012. One thing I know – those who are believing all of this and going along with the nonsense – never voted nor would for President Obama anyway. So nothing lost with them. I think people too young to remember the days of Jim Crow are now getting just a glimpse of what that was all about and because they never had to face it before – it is extremely difficult. I know that Jackie Robinson, Rosa Parks, etc. had to feel a lot like what our President felt today. Racism is still alive and well in America but I am going to believe like Chris Rock said on Oprah – they (the racist) are on their last evil legs and are about to go to sleep. I have faith that my God is looking out for Barack Hussein Obama and will take good care of him and keep him right where he needs to be. I especially believe that when you have people like franklin graham coming out with his own criteria for who is a Christian – The Bible says that “all who say Lord, Lord will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven”. graham and the others walk does not match their talk and I see Jesus in President Obama far and above what I see in these “mighty men of god”.
BTW just saw a video clip of the Obama’s on Oprah but don’t know how to get it to post but I am sure the wonderful Chipsticks will have it for us.

Wow!!! I’m far from a crier but this, this made me shed tears. I shed these tears because everything he said was TRUE!! I don’t believe I have ever hated someone in all of my 22 years but the feeling that I am feeling all in my mind, heart, body and soul for Trump has got to be hate. It makes me angry.
Earlier it didn’t phase me too much but this video shook me. How do you take pride in hurting or belittling someone? Any decent person wouldn’t. And the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES at that!!! How can anyone even air some bull like that?
He wants to hold it and check it for AUTHENTICITY??? You Trump will never get your filthy, nasty, disgusting hands on it. What needs to be check for authenticity is the wig you wear on top of you empty head. I shed this tears not only for POTUS but for my ancestors that died so that I could live free. All they died for and this still goes on. It’s so sad that racism still existent but for it to be broad casted is just plain wrong. I pray that God shows Trump no mercy when he reaps what he has just sewn.

This reminds me of the story in the Bible when Jesus and his Disciples were in a boat and a storm came up. As the storm got worse, the Disciples became scared and pleaded for Jesus to do something and he asked them where was their faith? Then in His own time, He uttered “Peace Be Still” and the waters calmed. We who support the President and want him to be re-elected just need to remain calm and do our part in the re-election process. Leave the rest to Jesus and Barack. Jesus will work it out – if you let Him. I feel the waters swirling around us, but I know what my job is and I’m gonna remain focused. OBAMA2012 is our GOAL.

Powerful stuff. I was so angry this morning that I cried. I am angry mostly at the media in this country has been complicit in the double standard treatment afforded this president. It is ugly, disgusting, mean-spirited, hateful, and they have dirt and scum on their hands for this.

As well, many in the leadership in the Democratic Party has never had this president’s back. They’ve looked the other way over and again when he was attacked. This, I will never forget. Never. The ugliness that we all see and many in the media refuse to see angers me. No other president has been treated the way this president has. It hurts me to the core. I am deeply hurt today.

God is the author and finisher of all things, and I believe that everything is going to work out for the good for our POTUS and first family. When I saw our President go before the country today to vertify that he is a citizen of the US, I was shocked, hurt, and disappointed that out of all the POTUS, not one had to vertify their citizenship. This is a very sad day in America. Every since the POTUS has been in office, they have played the race card, and the news media refused to address those issues surround racism and the teabaggers. And you are right “Africa” there are those in the Democratic Party who never had this president’s back. Our President is not alone, God is truly with him.

This young man expressed my feeling so much better than I could ever do it. I was so hurt this morning I could work until around noon. I am so much more calm and thinking clearer. I doubt the President every now and then and that happened today. That’s the fool in me. This man is all about long term strategy. I still can’t see it but I know he has one. What I agree with most is that CHUMP can’t get away with this. There has to be a consequence. He should lose his show for his boldface lies against the President. I can’t believe the Obama’s are going to let him get away with this.

I love this site, and I am so thankful for Chipsticks. My heart is very heavy. My tears are flowing at a level when I would cry when I knew that someone was lying on me, and I was not guilty. So I understand deeply how we can be angry, sad, sick to our stomachs, and hurt to live in a country so rich in diverse thinking, loving, and being. You see, I am a woman of color. My great, great grandparents paid a huge price for me to be where I am today. I come from a wonderful family who very hard to be successful in our lives. My mother and grandparents saw young people lynched and dragged down the street that I would later walk and play on. I understand this young man’s emotions. I am a person who has an Irish grandmother. This is rare for so many of us. You do not have to be my color, just be a decent human being who cares about equal treatment and opportunities. That is all. Yes, this hurts because NO President in my lifetime has ever been treated like the most dirty of the dirt. Our President did not deserve this. We are better than this, and I hope and pray that those of us who live on the side of history where we show our “better angels” will pray hard tonight, and work even harder to re-elect this great President in 2012. This is our goal. We will decide where to win the next game. But let us be close in our hearts with thoughts going forth for each other. Let us encourage each other, let us shed tears with each other, and above all let us not forget what we did in 2008. YES CAN. I am just so grateful that President Obama’s mother, grandmother, and grandfather did not have to witness this disgrace today in this country called America. God will bring justice for the righteous.

Then when I got home from work, I saw Chump on nightly news taking credit for it. omg!!! I came here and watched the video from Mr. Thurston. I feel his pain. I feel for our first family. Chipsticks, thank you so much for posting this video. This young man has totally articulated what I have been feeling all day. When I heard our President presented his long form birth certificate to stop the nonsense (at least in the mainstream). I wondered how did we get here but realized the gleeful hateful ignorance displayed by Trump and others over the last few years has always been there, just sitting beneath the surface waiting for a trigger. The trigger was literally election of Barack Hussein Obama to highest office in the land. Even with those credentials, he still is questioned despite being fully vetted during his campaign. I heard someone at work say “he brought this on himself”- boy, was I ready to fight in that moment. What did this person mean – he brought this on himself because he is black??!! If that is the case, I fully expect all minorities to be asked for a long form birth certificate so you can prove you are an American. Anyway, after a prayerful moment, I did not respond to this individual because it would turned into something ugly based on my current mood. While I am pissed off and will be for awhile, I will follow the example of our president and keep it moving (and staying above the fray so gracefully). He is leading this country despite those who want to stop progress, so God will continue to bless him with strength and wisdom in these crazy times. I am so, so proud of President Obama,it scares me sometimes – he is like this unexpected wonderful surprise gift you never expected to receive. I still feel the same thrill as I did the first time I saw him in Hartford, CT. He is the man for the times, so we should never be discouraged – we are on the right side of history.

Sorry to be so long winded in first “official” post to this great site but I am very happy I found this community.

Hi Lochelle, really appreciate your wonderful comment. That video was overwhelming, I spent the day desperately trying to find a way of looking at all of this in some kind of positive light, eg an end to all the madness, but Baratunde Thurston’s pain and hurt and anger makes it impossible. It was a depressing, ugly, shameful day, there’s no other way of looking at it. What hurts most is that the man at the center of it all is such a good, decent and kind man, all politics aside. But that will make the good people support even more, I’m certain of that. Thank you again Lochelle, I’m thrilled to have you here.

Since morning when this news flash brokw, I have been very sad, angry and hurt. Will a certain section of this country never stop with their race-baiting and bigotry??

As a black person, this is a very hurtful and so humiliating especially coming from a pompus bigot who is not even smart and moral enough to clean the bottom of President Obama’s shoes.

I know that President Obama has very many supporters who are of the majority race – I met so many such volunteers during the campaign. The Obama supporters who happen to be non-black are smart and no-nonsense people, who can fight back hard. They also know the race-based crap that is being spewed.

It seems to me that the time has come for those dedicated President Obama supporters I met (so many of them as they dedicated their life to the campaign) have to stand up and fight back.

Well, after reading all the comments here, I will pass on watching the video as I need to heal from my physical soreness of too much housework, and I’m afraid of my emotional state were I to view the video. Maybe another time after I have seen PBO’s smiling face, and seeing him excelling in the current heated climate. This nation in part truly is vile, but I have never been convinced otherwise. Racism is a mental illness, as well as a physical cancer. Those who practice it are doomed to misery…that’s the one consolation, although they do so much damage while practicing. On to the boycot….money talks!

I am livid because Trump is at best mediocre when compared to President Obama. Trump is a failure in every way … Business, marriage, personality and I have no doubt that his grades were nothing to brag about. This man was born privileged but clearly without class. He is an ugly man inside and out! Sad day in America!

I know exactly how this contributor feels!!!! Who the heck is Donald Trump? His acclaim is just another indicator that money cannot buy class. You either have it or you don’t.I am so sorry that President Obama felt that he had to address this buffoon. What an insult on every possible level. It should be clear by now that if anyone had something on the President, it would have been plastered on every TV screen throughout America and the world. They tried to destroy his reputation with the Reverend Wright fiasco but he came out smelling like a rose. Can’t Mr. Trump see that we have a man of class and integrity as President and that people with an ounce of sense can see right through his attempts to degrade him. Does he want to become President that badly or does he need ratings badly enough to make himself look like a fool? Give it up Mr. Trump and let the President get on with his important work.

I lived through the Civil Rights movement and often times had much difficulty believing the horror and viciousness that was delivered to many people who supported “equal rights” for another human being. The events that led to “forcing” the President of the US to release his Certificate of Live Birth were even more horrifying because to paraphrase clarence thomas, it truly was a HIGH-TECH LYNCHING. But…..let us not mourn or spend too much time crying. Let us all join together, embrace our brothers and sisters who are less fortunate than us. Let us teach our children to shun gangs and violence, teach them to read, write, do math, behave in our classrooms and excell in their lives. Let us donate (if we can) to the President’s re-election. Let us work hard to register new voters and provide transportation to the polls- because plans are being put into place, by the Republican Party, to prevent the minority voter from casting their ballot. I truly believe the President has plans to break-out in his second term. We must re-elect him. God has been with this man and his beautiful family, we must be with him also. Keep the faith. Do not let evil prevail.

I took was struck with the some of the same feelings as Mr. Thurston, but I was even more heartened by the strength and grace my President has shown, once again, in his response to this newest incarnation of the hate parade. President Obama exemplifies the meaning of the word “character.” I would like to share the words of one ‘Gin’ who replied to Mr. Thurston’s post on Jack and Jill Politics. I can’t see how anyone could improve on this:

“Mr. Baratunde – do not shed one more tear. Doing so begs the question of why you need to feel accepted in a country where one sector (the ignorant sector), abhors your color.

Walk with pride. You know who you are.

And trust me, they know who you are, too.

It is the ignorant who are crying. Do not mix your tears with theirs, because they cry for a long-lost time, when they were in charge because they had physical power over our race. They now tremble with fear, borne of a feeling of Puritanical guilt that their erstwhile success in the world was only because of their domination over you, and that their comeuppance has arrived, when a Black man became the proverbial Master (a truly beneficent one), of the whole of them, and us.

Only the weak truly fear our President, because it is they who are not American. They only feel American when they can feel superior. It is they who lament, for a bygone era when they could take credit for your inventions, they could rape your woman and sire children of many different colors–and hate their offspring–yet be reminded of them every time they see a Black person. They lament your silent strength, your silent struggle, and your greatness, that still keeps you alive, despite your numbers in jails throughout this land.

If you shed another tear, it should be for those like them–the haters– because they are lost, and, pitiful, and they will miss out on living as true Americans… free. They are imprisoned by their hatred, and have locked themselves up, so tightly, they will never be happy. Their whole identity was substantiated by their belief in your inferiority.

Your wonderful ancestors knew that this day would come, and they are reveling in it: they knew a time would come when the ignoramuses would unsuccessfully seek to assert power over a Black man, too powerful to care about what they think about him, who could crush their clenched fists with a handshake.

Do not give Mr. SnakeOil too much power, my friend (His name isn’t worth uttering). He is but an empty shell of a man who wants to prove to the world that he is more powerful than a Black man, a Black American, better yet, an American, who is of African descent–who leads the free world. Weep for Mr. SnakeOil. Because he, with all of his money, and fame, will never feel whole, as long as a Black man is above him. And with his actions of late–every decent man, of whatever color, is a better man than he, no matter how rich he may be in money. He looks woefully poor. He is naked underneath his shiny suits. And he is an old man, who wants, for once, for someone else to make him feel powerful, as his self-worth is so low. So dry your eyes, you handsome man and flash that brilliant smile and mind.

Mr. SnakeOil is not worth it.

The President of the United States is not crying. He is a leader. Do the same.

Pray for those who plot against our race (the human one), that they harm no one physically in their rush to hate. Pray for their children, who might prove to be more intelligent than they… like in the Middle East, the revolution will be won by the children. They know the deal. Now, it’s your turn to believe in it, too.
I say, this is a GREAT DAY, my brother! In too many ways to count.”

Thank you to Gin. Thank you to Chipsticks for this site, a shining beacon light pulling us out the dark abyss.
Peace and blessings to you all!

You have spoken with so much wisdom, and heart, I am again moved to tears. Despite my tears I am not weak, and I join all decent, fair and compassionate Americans to keep walking forward to the light of a brighter, harmonious and more just day. Namaste.

I have to say in retrospect, many great opportunities revealed themselves in the muck of yesterday. I hope all here are motivated and inspired to keep moving forward. Our President’s burdens are more than any one person should have to shoulder, please continue to pray for his strength and protection and that all that is positive will continue to expand and grow, and that what is dark will be extinguished, and what is sick will be healed. Yes.We.Can.

Everyday is a gift, that’s why it is called the present, hope everyone unwraps the gift that is today. Happy Day!

Now this letter spoke the truth better than I’ve heard over these last 2 or so days. Chump is the model of diminished importance, thus the figurative gnashing of teeth and writhing of pain, of being reduced to a mere mortal. Love it!

Americans, stop validating that Trump guy. He is only seeking cheap publicity. You all know he won’t be running for presidency as he has WAY too many skeletons waiting to burst out….

What an eloquent, and heart-felt expression presented by this young man, Baratunde! I don’t know how he kept it together to express his pain and disgust. Let us all pray and stay positive and let the God deal with “rug-head” I mean Trump

Baratunde, You are such a wonderful representation of why I love being an educated, Black American. I will be passing this video around to those in and out of my circle. Well DONE Brotha! You have inspired me to make my little voice heard (one of the perk of living in AMERICA)
I will definitely visit your blog again!

    Best Quote Ever:
I’m as white bread as they come and I am utterly disgusted by Trump’s sickening display of self wankerdom this morning.
