“a self-proclaimed constitutional law professor”

File under ‘Yawn’: Glenn Greenwald, the “professional Obama-hater” (as Frank Schaeffer so perfectly describes him), who’s backing Republican/Libertarian Gary Johnson for 2012 (the guy who says there’s no racism in America and wants to end child labor laws), posted yet another hysterical rant about the President on Salon today.

The only thing that stood out in the tedious, vitriol-laden tirade was the bit where he quoted a creature at Firebaggerlake (you know, the place made up of Greenwald-worshiping sycophants) talking about the President being “a self-described Constitutional scholar”.

Self-described? Oh noes! These PUMAs still haven’t got over the black guy winning the 2008 nomination!

It was back then that they first claimed candidate Senator Obama lied when he said he was a law professor at the University of Chicago (all part of their, um, progressive campaign to suggest his background was ‘murky’, that he was, well, a little different). So, they’re still making the claim – and, of course, are now supported by their Teabagger allies. Nice.

The problem? Factcheck.org looked in to the claim and dismissed it – with, you know, facts, including a statement from the University of Chicago confirming that the President “served as a professor in the Law School”.

Being such a righteous man of unfailing integrity, and one who respects Factcheck.org (well, when he agrees with its findings), you’d assume Greenwald would correct the Firebagger smear – or at least not quote it? Wouldn’t you?

Well, no – Greenwald actually went on to repeat the smear, describing the President as “as a self-proclaimed Constitutional Law professor”.

Self-proclaimed? Ah, okay, so, despite Factcheck.org proving the smear to be untrue – three years ago – and despite the statement from the University of Chicago, Greenwald joins forces with his Firebagger and Teabagger pals to perpetuate the smear: the President lied about part of his history. Hey, what next? The birth certificate?

Interesting. Greenwald was careless today, in his rage he let the mask slip a little…. and still he pretends it’s all about Wikileaks/Bradley Manning. It’s not. 😉

This is a great post from Team Obama 2012

See here for a post by Benjamin Wittes, ‘Why I Won’t Engage Glenn Greenwald’. Wittes is just one of countless commentators – from the left and right – who have been smeared by Greenwald when they’ve had the temerity to disagree with him:

“I don’t see any reason either to engage with someone who begins with the premise that people who disagree with him are arguing in bad faith, are on the take, or are evil. My life is too short for that.”

…..precisely the same tactic he uses with the President – unremitting personal abuse.

The thing that’s endlessly amusing about Greenwald and his sycophants is their abuse of supporters of the (democratically elected by almost 70 million people) President. Hero-worshipers! They really don’t do irony, do they?

😆 😆 😆

These creatures go in to meltdown when they happen upon anyone in cyberspace who doesn’t worship at GG’s blessed feet. As he does too! Remember he likened a friend of ours to a Nazi propagandist? This might be him, not sure:

(Actually, the Teabagger carrying this sign is probably a GG devotee – they’re flooding the comments section under his posts with messages of support these days, his hate-filled rhetoric is just their thing! He’s their hero!)

UC Law School statement: The Law School has received many media requests about Barack Obama, especially about his status as “Senior Lecturer.” From 1992 until his election to the U.S. Senate in 2004, Barack Obama served as a professor in the Law School. He was a Lecturer from 1992 to 1996. He was a Senior Lecturer from 1996 to 2004, during which time he taught three courses per year. Senior Lecturers are considered to be members of the Law School faculty and are regarded as professors, although not full-time or tenure-track. The title of Senior Lecturer is distinct from the title of Lecturer, which signifies adjunct status. Like Obama, each of the Law School’s Senior Lecturers have high-demand careers in politics or public service, which prevent full-time teaching. Several times during his 12 years as a professor in the Law School, Obama was invited to join the faculty in a full-time tenure-track position, but he declined.

Thank you for the statement. I had never seen that before. If a person that denies the President is born in the US is called a birther maybe Greenwald is a scholar denier.

Would you call what Greenwald does “friendly fire”?

    • 4 Theo67
      April 23, 2011 at 3:57 pm

Certainly not. Friendly fire is accidental and tragic. Greenwald is very deliberate in his bigoted and hateful attacks on President Obama. There’s nothing “friendly” about it.

God, Chip, I adore your stomach. How can ever read this bullshit?! I despise this bastard with all my heart.

You know BWD, his venom hardly bothers me any more because it’s just comically hysterical, insane and repetitive. The hatred just drips from it – oh boy, this guy has serious issues. I can still remember how disappointed he sounded when DADT was repealed, he was crestfallen. One less reason to hate the President. He’s pure scum.

Is this guy sick ? I mean, really ?

I think it’s good that there is a strong push-back against him. He reacts in doubling down, which is to be expected. His behaviour is destroying his credibility and reputation, except with a small fringe of people.

“Credibility”! “Reputation” destroyed! We are talking about Glen Greenwald here LP!

Never had any to begin with except of course in his head and with his very own exaggerated but teeny followership mini version of Jonestown revisited!

Let’s just hope Greenwald and his handful of craven minions gather soon for their own version of departing before the apocalypse and drink up quickly! Guaranteed to permanently put them out of their misery!

Glenn is what I call a professional gay, point. I made a post about him on my blog last evening and there is more, much more to come starting Monday. I loathe this man and those like him in the GLBT community.

Glenn and people like him, especially those who are not minorities will maintain if conservatives sweep in 2012. The majority of homosexuals cannot wait another five or eight years to have equality, health care and the right to join in partnership (or marriage ) those who they love. The majority of homosexuals do not have terrific jobs and a BRASILIAN live in lover twenty years their junior!

As a member of the GLBT community myself, I find Glenn’s behavior reckless and disheartening…..

More surprise soon. … stay tuned

To TO2012 and Chipsticks, thank you!

It is definitely time to mount a concerted effort to bring to the attention, not just to those who read blogs, that GG, Ed, Jane, Ariana, etc., are anti-Democratic, anti-Obama, demagogues. We need a concerted effort to call them out. They are not progressive, they are not liberals, they are not ‘the base of the Democratic Party’ (most of the true base don’t even know who they are), they are not the least bit concerned with the needs of most Americans. If they have anything in common besides their hateful demagoguery it’s their lust for $$$$.

I visited your site and read your wonderful post about GG! Keep up the good work, TO2012. GG doesn’t begin to understand that he has little in common with the average American. He comes across as a privileged authoritarian who wants everyone to consult with him before making a move because, in his mind, he has ALL of the answers.

A while ago Julian Sanchez started quite the on-line conversation by talking about right-wing epistemic closure.

Reality is defined by a multimedia array of interconnected and cross promoting conservative blogs, radio programs, magazines, and of course, Fox News. Whatever conflicts with that reality can be dismissed out of hand because it comes from the liberal media, and is therefore ipso facto not to be trusted.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that Greenwald and FDL do exactly the same thing. They create their own reality and dismiss any truth that challenges it.

By the way, you all got me reading up on some pretty disturbing things about Greenwald and I did a bit of writing about it myself.

SP, I read your write-up earlier; it made me wonder on what this guy’s ‘credentials’ were based. I didn’t comment because I’d never read any of his ‘work’ so I really knew nothing about him (other than the fact that he has a blind spot re the President). This evidence of poor judgement on his part was enough to warn me to stay away from his diatribes. 😉

Greenwald, Hamsher and the rest are all conmen who’s business model is to attack the President. Maybe they’ll start a Johnson/Feingold PAC that they can pay themselves out of like they did with their last scam.

I find it hilarious that Greenwald makes his living off of attacking on everything and anything in order to sell the outrage of the moment, but he has the thinnest skin in the world. He knows how to play his suckers though, he’ll whine about the Obamabots attacking him and hurting his feelings and then go to an IP anonymizer to mask his IP address (he learned the hard way of course) and fire off some sock puppet defenses.

It’s a cottage industry – nutroots nation buys MSNBC influence and then they are brought on as pundits to raise their phony influence when they’re called the “voice of the base”.

    April 23, 2011 at 4:36 pm

Greenwald is a sick son of a gun. He and other haters have nothing of substance they can use against Obama. So they make up stuff—imagined and utterly false rumors to sell to others who hate so much they are willing to believe anything horrid about Obama. Very similar to the idiots in the tea party. Greenwald is so obsessed with his hatred of Obama, utterly consumed by it. He’s devoting his life to it. He’s someone whom my dad would have dismissed as a “real goofball”, not worthy of consideration. An ugly soul.

I think he is jealous of PBO, and I also think that he doesn’t understand why 53% of the electorate voted for him in 2008. He just can’t get his head around voters’ preference for a man of color over McCain, and he shares this trait with many on the right. This is the sources of the right’s birther fixation. GG will do all he can to suppress the number of votes PBO receives in 2012, but we must not allow him to depress us, and when he appears on MSNBC, we should send emails to the network informing it that he doesn’t speak for us.

Sounds kinda like Republicans, doesn’t it? They got nothin’ either and can’t govern their way out of a paper bag, so they make stuff up and hurl insults. Not very imaginative, although apparently lucrative. Up to us to work on the people who believe this nonsense.

  13. April 23, 2011 at 4:59 pm

I remember this “controversy” during the campaign. I pretty much ignored it because I thought it was a ridiculous debate. He taught those kids, he wasn’t just some guest speaker there for a day.

  15. April 23, 2011 at 5:04 pm

I never got too much into Greenwald (basically not at all) because I could see from his writing that he uses certain words and phrases to manipulate his readers. That was a huge red flag to me. Another was the way his fans would almost always start their arguments with “Greenwald says” or link to something he says. I’m thinking to myself, “is there no one else that has an opinion on this issue?”

I still don’t know who this dude is or why he’s worthy of attention.

I used to see his name quoted like it was sacred over at DailyKos, but I never cared to delve into his rantings or personality. I lumped him in with all the other hysterical, unfocused, pointless firebaggers and dismissed him. They must be getting desperate in firebagging land — as Chris Rock said of the tea party, and which applies to these idiots: they’re acting up before bed time. LOL!

This dude is not even fit to tie President Barack Obama’s self-proclaimed law professor shoe laces. He’s a zero. He sounds miserable, and he’ll self-destruct like all the rest. We won’t even know who they are in five years.

  17. April 23, 2011 at 5:11 pm

Greenwald, Hampster and A Huffington are all first class jackasses. I wrote about them the latter part of 2009 and the beginning of 2010 when I started to see a big change coming. President Obama would not kiss their ass so they decided to try to delegitimize him in the eyes of the youth in America. It started during the healthcare fight and when FDL decided to mess up the Senate by primarying Blanche Lincoln. Even if it cost President Obama an extra needed vote. That is when I knew they was only about self and not about how situations would effect the long term agenda of President Obama.

Progressives have had to fight for anything and everything the last 50 years. We are not going to get everything we want in 2 1/2 years of a Democrat being in the Whitehouse. All the so called Professional Left do is gripe, groan and complain about anything and everything. President Obama have 2 houses of Congress to deal with. Instead of riding the congress, they keep bitching about him. I am sick of them, and left them a long time ago. What they don’t realize is if Clinton had won the nomination, she would not of won the general election. So we would of had a President McCain and looney Palin. Think about it.

I think more and more youth are seeing the real Greenwalds and Hampsters, and they want no part of them or their cause. I am one person who will keep fighting over the next 5 1/2 years to help make President Obama the best President we have ever had. I’m a black woman who live in deep South Carolina, so my work is cut out for me LOL.

His “cynicism” which turns particularly malicious and insulting with regard to President Obama, is agenda-driven.

And Jon’s agenda is not kosher and seeks to irreversibly damage President Obama!

Yet to figure out on whose behalf he does the hit pieces. But now worries, it will all come out in time.

Jon Stewart and Huffington are FRIENDS. She contributed busloads of folks to his “rally to restore sanity” but I realized at that point they had made a pact to try to undermine the President.

      • April 23, 2011 at 6:22 pm

I think the youth will be just fine. Because once President Obama or First Lady Michelle speak to them, they have a whole new and different outlook on things.
The one’s who won’t vote again for President Obama didn’t vote for him in the first place. The voted for Ron Paul, or the green party. So there is a whole new crop of youth out there from the past 4 years that couldn’t vote the last time that are excited to vote for him this time. So If he stay focused and we help him I think President Obama will be reelected in spite of the Firebaggers and naysayers. This is just my opinion. I never underestimate the sane part of America LOL.

Yes they did! It originated from the Clinton camp actually! Mark Penn and their strategy to paint PBO as “other” and question his “americanism”.

It was also Hillary Clinton who gave them their now favorite responses with regard to PBO’s faith and citizenship:

“He’s a Christian, as far as I know” and the now ubiquitous “I take him at his word”.

Oh, the firebaggers are former PUMAs? Well, that explains a LOT!

I remember when I was still a baby politicaljunkessa and I went to a PUMA website (won’t even honor them by giving out the name, in case they still exist — they don’t deserve the clicks) during the ’08 primaries. It was the craziest, most delusional place ever — you could smell the nuttiness and hate through the screen. Just like firebaggers and teabaggers, they careened like runaway cars from issue to issue, knowing nothing of what they talked except what was anti-Obama. I knew they had gone completely insane when they became Sarah Palin fans. You can’t get more opposite of Hillary Clinton than Sarah Palin, but they jumped on that nutty bandwagon.

    Good times, heh.

This Glenwald creature deserves our pity and if possible help finding him a reputable mental health professional!
This is clearly a deeply, deeply disturbed man-child with very serious socio/psychopatic problems plaguing him. His
deranged and pathological obsession with and irrational hate of President Obama are just manifestations of an extremely serious clinical psychological condition that pre dates PBO and could possibly be traced to as far back as childhood.
