a man of letters

St Petersburg Times: Charles Fuller … disillusioned by political bickering and the slowness of the economic recovery, decided he needed to make his voice heard. So the 41-year-old grocer …decided to write to the man in charge: President Barack Obama.

“I was concerned about the dire way, financially, the country was going. My concern was that we keep borrowing and borrowing and borrowing, and as a parent, my fear was that we were going to leave this country in far worse shape than we received it in,” he said…

In his letter, Fuller admitted he didn’t vote for Obama. “I didn’t believe in a million years that my letter would ever cross the president’s desk,” he said. “I really wrote the letter because I needed to vent.”

But several weeks ago .. Fuller was stunned to receive a handwritten response from the leader of the free world.

“The fact that the president read my letter and took it to heart, and that the words of somebody who admittedly didn’t vote for him would inspire him or make him take notice to another valid opinion … sort of restored my faith in the American government, in this administration – that a grocer from Florida could have the president take notice,” Fuller said.

And take notice he did. On Wednesday, Obama referenced Fuller’s letter at the end of his speech laying out his ideas for reducing the deficit and securing America’s fiscal future.

Obama read aloud part of Fuller’s letter … “It was quite a moment,” said Fuller, who watched the speech live ….In turn, Fuller said, he found optimism in Obama’s speech.

“I may not particularly agree with his entire plan for financial success for the country, but I believe it’s a step in the right direction,” he said.

Our president is GOOD man! We do not deserve him but I do so appreciate having this leader in the driver’s seat.

Great story here about the 2 letters, one from Mr. Fuller and one from President Obama. Wouldn’t you just die to find a personal hand written letter from the Presudent in your mailbox?

Herp Derp whatevers *facepalm* As usual president Obama remains a classy amazing inclusive leader. He is a better person than I will ever be.

How long before he sells this hand written letter our gracious potus sent him……? I also wonder if he wrote letters to the worst president in American history, George Bush, when Bush and co were ruining our nation. Was this store owner worried about the direction when Bush and co were taking the healthy surplus former Democratic Pres Clinton left and turned it into the disgraceful negative that they left behind for this Democratic Pres? Was he concerned that 8 year reign never created jobs and actually years of job loss? but 2 years of president Obama has yielded 14 months of job creation. I guess not since he voted for the same folks that were the root of the problem. Or maybe he sat home….*shrugs* whatevers

Kelly, good question and fyi…just so you know in the full article it says he wrote one other letter to the white house. The first letter was to George H. W. Bush regarding taxes.

Hmmmm, yes I wonder if he too will sell it since it sounds like so many other letter recipients have done that.

I trust and respect President Obama. I believe he is a good man, who wants to do what is best for all Americans, not the rich only.

Sue in Minnesota…..What makes them so specal is it’s not all about what they look like. Why alot of time we talk about what they look like on the outside, but I think we are just as impress with there heart, with what kind of person they are inside. And both the President and Michelle seem to be very caring people.

Anniebella, I am someone who always values the contents more than the packaging. In fact I think anyone that has it together on the inside can’t help but radiate it to the outside. I think of POTUS and FLOTUS as equals in all respects…..and as pretty as they are on the outside, their true treasure radiates from within. I love them both.
It was not my intention to be superficial, I am sorry if it came across as such. In fact at times I feel we comment to freely about their looks, but the reality is they are undeniably attractive and charismatic. What reassures me, is that everyone commenting here truly appreciates the full measure of both Barack and Michelle.

You can’t say that about beautiful or handsome people all the time. Most of the time these kind of people are so focus on their looks, that they don’t give a dam about anyone but themselves. It’s all about them and how beautiful or sexy they think are. But we have two people in Barack and Michelle Obama who when we talk about them, yes we talk about how sexy they are, how hot they are, but we also talk about what nice people they are. How they care about their fellow man or woman. They have a kind heart. What touches me more than anything is their commitment to one another and their family.
