‘preemptive whinging is the new norm for the “professional left”‘

eclectablog.com: I’ll say right off the bat that I absolutely hate the term “professional left”. But it will suffice as a descriptor for those on the liberal side of the coin that seem to be able to find pretty much nothing about the Obama administration that they can approve of.

And when they don’t have anything to get upset about, that’s no problem. They just invent something. Here’s the playbook for your reference:

1. Read the day’s headlines.

2. Determine a spin that characterizes the President and his administration in the worst possible light.

3. If such a spin does not exist, postulate what the President and his administration’s response will be. Make sure that it is as negative as possible, even if it contradicts his past behavior.

4. Write endless blogs on how the President has once again sold his “base” down the river and kicked hippies in the teeth (after punching them, of course.) It is not necessary for him to actually have done this. Your prediction that he WILL do this is sufficient.

5. When what you predicted turns out to be quite wrong, ignore that and focus on the next day’s news item. No point in issuing a mea culpa. Just raise a fuss about something new and nobody will notice.

6. Lather, rinse and repeat.

This has been the way it’s done for nigh on two years now and this week is no exception.

Is the problem that if they shut up and actually listened, they wouldn’t have anything to complain about? He was clear and forceful today. I could understand him without any commentary, and I bet other Americans who actually listened could also. He dealt with the Ryan Republican plan surgically and concisely! Beautiful job!

Great article. It really infuriates me that Potus and us his supporters have to fight the teabaggers, rethugs and the PL. Its soo sad. What I want to know is that, what has the Pres. done to get all this hate from people that “say” they are Dems???? I just dont get it.

Well, well. I wondered why I was getting so much traffic from your site, Chipsticks. I wonder if you and BWD realize how much of whatever popularity I have is due to the two of you! Thank you so much for the linkage and keep up the fantastic work.

I hope the President’s speech today has everyone as fired up as it has me. I’ve been invited to a bloggers’ conference call with David Plouffe and possibly Dan Pfeiffer this afternoon so I’ll have more to talk about tomorrow.

Hiya Chris – always a pleasure to post your posts! And you absolutely nailed it – in light of the President’s speech today your ‘preemptive whinging’ charge was SO appropriate. Thrilled to hear you’re on the bloggers’ conference call with David Plouffe, looking forward to reading your report. Thanks Chris.

The p.s. here is that you should never click on links posted by commentors and if you do, then don’t read the comments posted on the second article you followed, and so on and so on.

You’re right Lisa, I just read the relevant part of the article as posted by CS and I move on!!! I will never click on any of these notorious blog sites like Huff Post Daily Kos, Salon etc. Not even if the post is complimentary or positive since I know what awaits at the other end!!!

    Wonderful post Electablog, absolutely wonderful.

Electablog, your post was wonderful, absolutely wonderful. You deserve, and need, to get all the traffic you can get.

Underlining your thoughts above — you noticed I’m sure the PREMEMPTIVE petition yesterday on the Orange Satan that read — “Donor: You’ll get NO donation from me …” (if he cuts Medicare and so on). I was gratified to read posts of a couple of readers, not especially brain-dead, who pointed out that the “White House announces …” headline put up on the petition post was NOT what the newspapers they cited said at all, but rather the newspaper used the usual weasel phrases like “sources say …” The supposition, nevertheless, set them off immediately on their pants-on-fire tirade.

Unfortunately, not all the members bothered to read the actual article and, I’m sure, were among those who made fools of themselves by signing the thing. This is the way riots and hair-tearing-out starts by the self-righteous among us.

Amen Joan!! I just posted under another post about Becky from Credo and how I e-mailed her in reply and gave her and her idiot friends a what for. We should all send reply e-mails to Becky from Credo and tell her what we stand for, and it’s definitely not for her so-called “progressive agenda.” A more disturbing phrase was never spoken. What’s this “progressive agenda” that sneers at what everyone believes is the most progressive president in decades. Idiots.

      • April 13, 2011 at 6:21 pm

The label “Progressive” had been so misused and, in fact, tainted, I stopped adding it to my “Liberal” when asked about my politics. But after POTUS’s speech, I think I’ll add it again!!

I blocked all those so-called progressive sites and unsubscribed too!!!

They all suck and the crazy hysterics and antics about nothing is so stupid, childish, and damaging!!! But the greatest damage is to them and their phony progressive agenda going forward!!! I am so done with the whole bunch of them!!!

    • April 13, 2011 at 6:51 pm

Actually, Joan, I posted a follow-up to my “preemptive whinging” post that talks about just the very thing you mention. You might find it of interest:

“Bold Progressives” get threatening with their preemptive whinging

I also just posted this comment at Kos on their Rec Listed diary:

Color me sick to death of the PCCC

If you guys spent half as much time and venom attacking Republicans as you do one of the best Presidents in my lifetime, I might be interested in what you have to say. You and I have a very different sense of what it means to be “bold”. You remind me of this one lady where I work who gets up at every company meeting and asks the CEO some sort of question trying to put him on the spot and embarrass him. She thinks it makes her look tough but, in the end, it just makes her look like an idiot.

Brilliant Eclectablog! Now, if only they would listen. Ah, a lesson in futility.

      • April 13, 2011 at 8:11 pm

That was good, Electablog, and essential to have out there. If you glanced at the comments on that DK threatening post yesterday, there were two or three people on there that noted the “don’t you dare do what you never said you’d do” was fairly juvenile. They’re still at it, as you pointed out. I even got an email this morning to go back and rec a post about … well, it was insulting. The president made clear he was not going to let anything cripple these important programs, he didn’t need threats from these little kids to “keep him in line.”

Didn’t these people get any lessons in manners growing up? Or aren’t they actually grown up yet?

        Well ….
