From Maya Soetoro-Ng, sister of President Obama, comes a lyrical story relaying the loving wisdom of their late mother to a granddaughter she never met. Ladder to the Moon, Maya Soetoro-Ng’s first book, is inspired by Maya and Barack’s mother as well as by Maya’s four-year-old daughter. What lessons, the author wonders, might her daughter have learned from her grandmother had the two ever met? In Ladder to the Moon, Maya Soetoro-Ng pays homage to her mother’s tradition of storytelling – and celebrates her mother’s enduring legacy of service – with an unforgettable story of love and compassion being passed along generations. Brimming with the beauty and magic of the night, Ladder to the Moon is a modern-day fable that charms readers of any generation with its lush prose and timeless message about discovering ones own strength.

Maya Soetoro-Ng was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, and is a writer and educator with a PhD in international comparative education. She says Ladder to the Moon, her first picture book, was inspired by her young daughter Suhaila’s questions about her grandmother Ann Dunham, the mother of Maya and of our forty-fourth president, Barack Obama.

Join us for an inspiring afternoon with Ms. Soetoro-Ng as she reads from her book, discusses her writing and how the book came about and, afterward, will answer questions from the audience. All family members – – especially grandparents – – are welcome.

PBO truly adores and worships Michelle. Each time I see a photograph of both of them, his eyes sparkle.

It was so beautiful and refreshing to see our FLOTUS and our SLOTUS working together on a great program such as “Joining Forces.” We are so blessed to have such a beautiful team working alongside of our terrific men, our POTUS and VPOTUS. All four of them are beautiful spirits. I love the positive energy that we see when both couples are together. They give me joy and hope in today and the future of our country because of the great things they are doing together. We have to keep them in our thoughts, and prayers. Let us pray for POTUS’s speech for tomorrow. God give him wisdom.
