tour of duty

First lady Michelle Obama plans today to kick off a national initiative highlighting the special needs of wounded military members and their families. Obama and Dr. Jill Biden will unveil the initiative at the White House before embarking on a two-day tour of medical facilities and family support centers in Texas, North Carolina, Colorado and Ohio.

…White House officials said the San Antonio stop will include a private meeting between Obama, Biden and wounded military members and their families … .After the San Antonio visit, Obama is scheduled to travel to Denver and participate in a more celebratory event at Coors Field, with a baseball game between the Colorado Rockies and the New York Mets. Singer Jessica Simpson is expected to perform, and the U.S. Air Force Academy baseball team will practice with military children attending the game.

Officials said the first lady will officially launch the initiative at noon today in a White House ceremony to thank businesses, philanthropists and government groups for what they have done to support veterans.

Obama and Biden will travel to Camp Lejeune, N.C., to highlight Operation Shower, a nonprofit organization that hosts baby showers for military families experiencing deployments or high-stress situations. The White House delegation will meet with special guest Martha Stewart and bring gifts for 40 pregnant women whose husbands are service members.

The two-day tour by the first lady will end Thursday in Columbus, Ohio, where Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers and Elmo from the Sesame Street Muppets will take part in a concert-style event honoring National Guard members and their families.

It’s so nice to remember and honor our Service Men and Women. To serve and work with Military Families, Is one of our First Lady’s Passions. She’s keeping her word. May God continue to Bless our Service Men and Women, who protect this great Country. May God continue to Bless First Lady Michelle, and Dr. Jill Biden for their Service. May God continue to Bless President Obama, and VP Biden for leading our Country. May God continue to Bless the United States Of America, Amen

This is such a wonderful thing. The Repubs use to say they were the ones supporting the troops, now they are the ones going for cuts and this Administration is doing all it can to help. Our wonderful FLOTUS and Dr Biden and so compassionate, you can tell they truly care and all these families are going thru. I pray everyday to keep them all safe!

I agree with you about our men and women of the military. They deserve our thanks and appreciation. And their families does too. I remember seeing the First Lady on Oprah when she were talking about all of us doing something for these families, because they give so much too. Thanks to our wonderful First Lady and Dr. Biden for what they are doing.

I like how the First Lady and Dr. Biden, POTUS and VPOTUS follow up with our military families. I remember seeing the Oprah show where Tom Brokaw and Woodward were guest with military families, and one family(of course all of our military families stood out,) but this one young man who was blind now really touched my heart. When Oprah mentioned our First Lady’s name, this young man just clapped and smiled to beautifully for her, I just cried. He could not see her, but what he gave out from her loving energy for our military families, you could tell that this young man felt it and loved it. Well guess who was there in the WH today at this announcement and luncheon, this young man. I saw him on the front row, and I just was so elated to see that he was there!!These are the things that I love about our First Family. They try to think of all of the big and small details to make this time in the WH a wonderful experience for all of us. I love my First Family and our Vice President and Dr. Jill Biden. I have NEVER see a team like this in my lifetime as these 4 people serving us as President and Vice-President. Thank you Lord!!!!
