sigh…..

MSNBC: The Hawaiian state health official who personally reviewed Barack Obama’s original birth certificate has affirmed again that the document is “real” and denounced “conspiracy theorists” in the so-called “birther” movement for continuing to spread bogus claims about the issue.

“It’s kind of ludicrous at this point,” Dr. Chiyome Fukino, the former director of Hawaii’s Department of Health, said in a rare telephone interview with NBC.

Fukino, sounding both exasperated and amused, spoke to a reporter in the aftermath of Donald Trump … questioning whether Obama has a legitimate birth certificate.

…No matter what state officials release on the issue, the “birthers” are going to question it, said Fukino. “They’re going to question the ink on which it was written or say it was fabricated. The whole thing is silly.”

As the top Hawaiian official in charge of state health records in 2008, when the issue of Obama’s birth first arose, Fukino said she thought she had put the matter to rest … she made two key points when asked about Trump’s recent comments.

The first is that the original so-called “long form” birth certificate – described by Hawaiian officials as a “record of live birth” – absolutely exists, located in a bound volume in a file cabinet on the first floor of the state Department of Health. Fukimo said she has personally inspected it – twice. The first time was in late October 2008, during the closing days of the presidential campaign, when the communications director for the state’s then Republican governor, Linda Lingle (who appointed Fukino) asked if she could make a public statement in response to claims then circulating on the Internet that Obama was actually born in Kenya.

Before she would do so, Fukino said, she wanted to inspect the files – and did so, taking with her the state official in charge of vital records. She found the original birth record, properly numbered, half typed and half handwritten, and signed by the doctor who delivered Obama, located in the files. She then put out a public statement asserting to the document’s validity…..

“It is real, and no amount of saying it is not, is going to change that,” Fukino said. Moreover, she added, her boss at the time, Lingle – who was backing John McCain for president – would presumably have to be in on any cover up since Fukino made her public comment at the governor’s office’s request. “Why would a Republican governor – who was stumping for the other guy – hold out on a big secret?” she asked.

….get over it

Her second point … is that the shorter, computer generated “certification of live birth” that was obtained by the Obama campaign in 2007, and has since been publicly released, is the standard document that anybody requesting their birth certificate from the state of Hawaii would receive from the health department.

The document was distributed to the Obama campaign in 2007 after Obama, at the request of a campaign official, personally signed a Hawaii birth certificate request form downloaded on the Internet….

The certification that the campaign received back – which shows that Obama was born in Honolulu at 7:24 p.m. on Aug. 4, 1961 – was based on the content of the original document in state files, Fukino said.

“What he got, everybody got. He put out exactly what everybody gets when they ask for a birth certificate.”

Hawaiian officials say that the certification is, in fact, only one piece of abundant evidence of Obama’s birth in Hawaii. Joshua Wisch, a spokesman for the Hawaii attorney general’s office, noted that a public index of vital records, available for inspection in a bound volume at the Health Department’s Office of Health Status Monitoring, lists a male child named “Obama II, Barack Hussein” as having been born in the state.

In addition, as Factcheck.org and other media organizations have repeatedly pointed out, both of Honolulu’s newspapers, the Honolulu Advertiser on Aug. 13, 1961, and the Honolulu Star Bulletin, on Aug. 14, 1961, both ran birth announcements listing Obama’s birth on Aug. 4 of that year.

Even Fukino accepts that her comments are not likely to end the matter for the die-hard birthers. Trump and other skeptics have questioned why the original birth certificate has not been released.

But Wisch, the spokesman for the attorney general’s office, said state law does not in fact permit the release of “vital records,” including an original “record of live birth” – even to the individual whose birth it records.

“It’s a Department of Health record and it can’t be released to anybody,” he said. Nor do state laws have any provision that authorizes such records to be photocopied, Wisch said. If Obama wanted to personally visit the state health department, he would be permitted to inspect his birth record, Wisch said.

But if he or anybody else wanted a copy of their birth records, they would be told to fill out the appropriate state form and receive back the same computer generated “certification of live birth” form that everybody else gets – which is exactly what Obama did four years ago.

****

EffieBlack: Trump is claiming that Ann Dunham Obama had a baby in Kenya, then got on a plane a few days after giving birth, flew halfway across the world, smuggled herself and her little brown baby into the United States, then conspired with her parents to plant a birth announcement, fake a birth certificate and then pretend for years that her son had been born in the United States.

He suggests that this happened because it was advantageous for little Barack to be an American citizen.

But, even under Trump’s ridiculous scenario, Barack would have been an American citizen, without all of the subterfuge. The fact that he was born to an American mother would have automatically made him a citizen of the United States, regardless where the birth actually occurred. And even if it didn’t, he could easily have become a citizen through naturalization. As a naturalized citizen, he would have all of the rights, privileges and immunities of a natural-born citizen – he could vote, he could buy property, he could run for public office, he could become a mayor or congressman or senator. The only thing he couldn’t do is become President.

But does anyone really believe that a white teenager whose marriage to an African man was not even legal in several states, back in 1961, just seven years after the Brown decision, six years after the Montgomery Bus Boycott, two years before the March on Washington, three years before the 1964 Civil Rights Act, four years before the Voting Rights Act, when there were no black governors, no black mayors of any major city, no black senators and only four black Congressman, masterminded several federal crimes in order to make sure that her black son was eligible to run for president one day?

Sure….

Sentimental me – this baby picture just tugs at my heartstrings – *sigh* indeed!!!

After a long day at work (in lieu of a pub or bar -ha!) this is where I hang out to unwind and read all about my dear President (without the angst of hate comments). Thank you thank you so much Chipsticks for this great public service.

These tea baggies and nut birthers are clutching at straws. They are stupid. As I have said before “stupid is as stupid does” We must fight ignorance with intelligence. This man is so above these idiots that he is not even breathing the same air as they do. He will be fine. His star continues to rise. Amen-In Jesus Name.

It’s not that they don’t believe it. The point is it keeps riling the crazies up when they start to simmer down. And they are much more useful when riled.

Isn’t it funny tho how their masters like to play them like that? I bet if you pointed to their neck and asked, “what’s that?” they look down every time. ha!

Heads up everyone, tomorrow the president’s sister will be on CNN.

    Obama’s sister call’s Trump’s birther rant “a shame”
President Barack Obama’s sister Maya Soetero-Ng sat down with Piers Morgan this afternoon for an interview that will air tomorrow night.

In her first prime time interview, Maya voices her opinion about the way Donald Trump has handled the Obama birthplace rant. “Well, I think it’s a shame,” she says. “And I think that my brother should definitely be president for a second term.”
“I think that it is time for people to put that to bed, to put it to rest completely.” She says there is a tremendous amount of proof Obama was born in Hawaii.

To see the interview in full tune in to CNN Tuesday night at 9pm ET/PT

Just for the record, the purpose of her CNN interview is to discuss a children’s book that she wrote, not to talk about the birther issue.

His sister is amazing – I’ve been impressed with her for a while. I think she’s just thoroughly disgusted with what is going on with her big brother.

I am in my early 40s, emigrated here in 1990, and really just started paying serious attention to politics since ’08, so maybe this sort of thing has happened before with a previous President and I’m just not aware of it. Can anyone say? I’ve never heard of anything like this before, but maybe I’m just not as informed about this country’s history, or maybe I’m biased because this bull is being used to smear someone I admire so much.

    Anyone?

This is a first for an American president, Hachikō. I taught high school social studies for 33 years. The subjects I taught included civics and U.S. History. I’ve voted in presidential elections since 1972. I’ve not read anything in the historical records of this country about a group of individuals questioning a U.S. president’s American citizenship, and I’ve never known the question being asked about any president, or presidential candidate, who has run for POTUS since I began voting in 1972. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that our first president of color is being dogged about being a natural born citizen of this country. I also think that because it’s politically incorrect to use certain derogatory terms related to being black in America, that the birther issue is being used as a substitute. It’s related to his race, Hachikō. The birthers don’t fool me. I grew up under segregation in America, and I know racism when I see it, whether it’s covert or overt. Many on the right like Palin, Huckabee, Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, O’Reilly, Levin, Trump, and others, use certain code words that their supporters can interpret very well. An informal conformation of this is seen by how quickly Trump rose in the republican presidential poll after he headed down the birtherism path.

Awwww! Look at that baby picture! Too cute!

You know, the repugs are in dire straits. There used to be a time where some of the higher up would try to tamp down this birther talk because they know it’s bad for an election and their party. But they are in such a pickle with POTUS whipping their butts and racking up win after win, they’ve decided to go full on birther.

It’s pathetic, but I can’t even get worked up about it. If all they can do is beat this birther drum, that means they know that President Obama is on his way to an electoral landslide in 2012. Folks are even saying that Plouffe is seriously looking at Texas. TEXAS.

It’s over for them and they know it. Most American’s, even the ones who didn’t vote for POTUS, are reasonable people. And no one wants to vote for a lunatic. And the Republicans look like absolute lunatics right now.

Answer me this: Why would a working-class US citizen, a pregnant woman at that, leave the US in the 1960’s to travel internationally to an undeveloped African country to deliver a baby? Would she have even be allowed on an airplane?????

The burden of proof rests with the Birthers, not the President. They need to come up with the travel records showing Ms. Dunham’s exit to Kenya and re-entry into the US around the time PBO was born. They need to come up with the authentic birth record from the country of Kenya. They have done none of the above, because they can’t.

And don’t forget, the mother of this baby was just 18 years old at the time. Sure, if you are a teenager and you’re going to have a baby, you leave your family and the baby’s father (then a student in the U.S.) and travel half way around the world to a country with much less sophisticated medical care and have your first child there far away from everything you are familiar with. This is so ludicrous that you can’t help but wonder if anyone could truly believe it. And if you really just wanted your baby to be a U.S. citizen, why leave the U.S. in the first place? At age 18. Come on guys – if you buy that you need more help than anyone can offer.

Additionally, John McCain and Mitt Romney were not born on American soil……and where’s the uproar! It is largely red meat for racist Americans who are easily manipulated, by the very people they choose to align themselves with politically. I find this so disgraceful…no matter the level.

Actually Mitt was born in Detroit. His Dad however, was born in Mexico. Still, if either of your parents are AMERICAN, you are an AMERICAN citizen.

However, this does mean Mitt is an “anchor baby” since his father has dual citizenship.

Now they have a new one. The part in the back of the President’s head that you see some times is evidence that he has had brain surgery ( therefore accounting for his problem thinking straight)! Seriously – I think Anderson Cooper is doing something on it tonight. If this is all they got – birther issues, brain surgery, etc our President must be doing a whole lot right – cause they got nothing!!!!

I haven’t checked this, but I saw comments discussing this that the President was born when she was 18 and in college. That she would have had to leave the country, with excellent medical care, and fly to a third world country when she was in her third trimester and that airlines don’t allow pregnant women to fly during their third trimester. And furthermore she didn’t have a passport then. Trump was spouting his nonsense on Bill O’Reilly’s show and O’Reilly told him when he found out about the birth announcements, he didn’t believe it.

It’s stupid and nuts, but it distracts them. I can only think that independents are asking themselves WTF??!! Rational Republicans are saying it’s stupid. This is a bit off the top of birth certificates, but I read about Alan Simpson, R-WY, saying that the male legislators shouldn’t vote on abortion issues and that there are homophobes in the Republican party.

    http://thinkprogress.org/2011/04/11/alan-simpson-gop-homophobes/

I think you will see a lot more Republicans trying to bring the party back from the far reaches of the right as election time nears.

I want someone to interview me because I would have no problem asking the media to also investigate the birth of Palin’s last child. Why not? they can go on and on and slander the president’s dead parents yet Palin is off limits? If they want to be gutter lets be fair and spread it all around equally. Let’s get to the bottom of these ugly lies and stop pretending its about the constitution.

Gobrooklyn, going along with your comment, tonight I realized a sad and shameful part about those who question the President’s birthplace do so knowing his mother and grandparents are not alive to speak up for the President. Can you imagine if his mother were alive? I know I can give very accurate details about the births of my children and if anyone were to tell me differently I’d put them in their place! Giving birth is a defining moment. I do hope PBO’s mother in heaven is not aware that people are questioning where she gave birth. The disrespect is completely pitiful.

My thoughts as well. Blatant racism. Period. I can no longer give anyone that promotes this BS a pass. Goes for the MSM as well.

And GoBrooklyn, I believe Palin did indeed fake the pregnancy of Trig. I would be sastified if the MSM would put as much energy into that subject as they have PBO’s birth certificate. Prove me wrong.
