open for business (video added)

President Obama meets students from Altona Middle School in Longmont, Colorado at the White House, April 11. The President received a letter from Shalini Schane, second from left, who was worried worried that her son Adam, right, would have his trip canceled if there were to be a government shutdown last Friday.

      I know! Awesome.

Sometimes are children are smarter than we are. They have more resilience and don’t lost hope easily. And perhaps because they have longer to live than us, they might intuitively understand that they have more invested in the future than we do.

I feel I must say something regarding that comment. I know you are making a joke, but it is in such bad taste. It just sounds so cruel and completely uncalled for. I am embarrassed that such a comment is on our positive TOD. It reminds me of bullying. You have no idea of that women’s thoughts or political affiliation or her life story or if she lost a grandparent that morning or if she voted for PBO or if she was too nervous to smile. Bringing up someone’s looks is just mean. Gosh, my hair didn’t look so great today and some would probably laugh at me for NOT coloring my hair! We are all doing the best we can. I just feel like we are better than that, PBO is better than that. In the past I have noted some who have pictures taken with the POTUS end up finding their way to this site. Can you imagine how that woman would feel coming here excitedly to TOD to see the video and images from today only to then find such a mean comment about her hair? Let’s say she she was an Independent voter and today PBO completely won her over with his kindness and graciousness even still I could see her deciding not to vote for him after reading such a mean comment on here by a PBO supporter! I am ALL for supporting the President, but I can not be quiet about this. What if that teacher/parent/chaperone had been you or your mother? This feels like bullying to me. Maybe you should view the video clip from the White House a few months back regarding bullying prevention.

I just feel like I had to say something regarding this because it just feels completely yucky to me. IMO that comment regarding a White House guest would not make PBO proud.

I believe strongly in free speech. i have worn the uniform as a US Army and federal officer and am a compensated DAV.

I am am not sorry for what I wrote, truly I am not. It does not matter that i wrote it in jest or not I do not apologize. Nor am I a Democrat . I voted for twenty five years and contributed to both the Virginia and Arizona Republican parties which are my homes. In 2008 I went rogue because of the rampant racism displayed at my hometown senator and rallies , especially those spotlight his running mate the witch form the north.

I made a comment I stand by it in jest or for real.

Hint to you Democrats, better get tougher skin and start pushing back because the other team dont roll with softies…

PS If reading opinions on a blog are enough to make her not like or vote for the president good riddance // lukewarm support is worthless.

If she is a tea party person, she got a close up look at the president, and a chance to see that he isn’t the monster that she’s been told that he is. I think she may be forced to look at his interaction with the students and conclude that he does care about their future.

I didn’t like the teacher (parent?)—the bald guy on the right side. He never smiled at all. But you can’t always judge a book by its cover. Maybe he’s just not a smiley kind of guy. Maybe he has indigestion. I can’t say he’s crabby because he’s having a bad hair day. But why, no matter what, wouldn’t you smile and be pleased for this class getting to have this special moment with the President of the United States?
      Other than that—-lovely.

Ok I have to write this in a way that doesn’t violate the etiquette of proper grammar. If I stray, Chipsticks forgive me. There was a picture of the President when he and the family were in Brazil and it showed that his “Crown Jewels” (wink wink) are plenty mighty for the throne.. if you know what I mean. And the twitpic of the First Lady and Condoleezza Rice highlights the difference in size between President Obama’s CROWN JEWELS and Bush’s tiny itty bitty PEANUTS 😆 😆 Very funny twit pic.

What a delight that all things worked out so well. Good on Mamma who sent the letter. Timing is everything. If all this budget smack didn’t happen, she wouldn’t have written the letter and they wouldn’t have gotten a 1 on 1 with our president. I am amazed at the organization and sensitivity President Obama and the WH staff exhibit.

The smaller video is from CBS news. I am going to find it and click on the site. If we do that when a video is posted it will raise their numbers and maybe they might notice the attention whenever anything Obama is posted.

argh!!! Frickin Chris Mathews!!! He just read PBO’s quote to Hearst Magazine and he read it mockingly, like he the president was whining as he said it. Then when he read the part where PBO said: I just want to sit in central park and watch people….Chris mutters something like: “well you will soon enough,” with a smirk. What the fuck? really Chris? just when I think you can’t be more of an asswipe, you go on and shock me.

    • 61 anniebella
      April 11, 2011 at 7:42 pm

We knew the media would respond like this, it is no shock. Matthew can be a jackass too. But we understood what the President was trying to say.

    • 62 hopefruit2
      April 11, 2011 at 7:48 pm

Chris Matthews must be spending too much time with his friend Howard Fineman. They are both hoping that Obama is a one-term President. That’s what the comment was about. Matthews wishful thinking that a Repblican or Conservadem will replace Obama in 2012.

      • 63 Fred
        April 11, 2011 at 8:41 pm

        Chris who?

Chris Matthews is a liberal racist. Remember his comment after the 2010 State of the Union. Zero respect!

        April 11, 2011 at 8:40 pm

And I noticed that no matter how good PBO’s numbers are stupid spitty mouth Matthews says they aren’t good enough. Since when was 50% approval bad? He had that slimy Mark Penn (remember him from the primaries when he kept implying that PBO was a drug dealer?) who had the nerve to say PBO needed to be at 55% approval to be re-elected. WTF?

Screw all of them. PBO won the first time inspite of everything they did to stop him and he will win — BIG!!!! — again.

I REALLY would like to know WHAT THE HELL is going on behind the scenes in D.C. Almost everyone in the Village seems to resent President Obama, or not respect him. I’m not sure it’s racism. Some possible reasons I can think of:

      1) he is NOT playing their little games of favoritism, privileged access, promises of scoops, pandering to them in cocktail parties, etc… like other presidents in the past.

      2) they sense that he doesn’t hold their work in high regard. He’s often made criticism about the media culture. ( Here I wonder if he made a strategic mistake; I’m surprised he hasn’t been more diplomatic with them because he always goes out of his way to be diplomatic with opponents)

      3) Hillary and Bill Clinton had built many personal relationships with members of the “Village” over the years so Barack Obama is being resented for “not waiting his turn” and “beating their friend”.

      4) people are jealous, consciously or unconciously. Barack Obama is extremely brilliant, is more knowledgeable than they are on almost every subject. He is LOVED by so many americans AND by people all around the world. He’s a TALENTED writer. And he has a wonderful marriage. In short, he HAS IT ALL.

      5) Finally, they sense that Barack Obama is NOT one of them. His first loyalty is for ordinary people. And he’s determined to serve them FIRST. He is absolutely determined to make Washington work for ordinary americans, and not for the little coterie of cynic people who are populating the Beltway.

      Maybe I’m not completely fair, I don’t know… but that is what I feel, what I think…

Dang, Chipsticks—you’ve done it to us again. Every week or so, it seems, you’ll slip in a titillating photo of our ever so sexy President (see photo #3), and then you’ll expect us to remain good little girls and not say anything inappropriate. April 11, 2011 at 8:02 pm

The President loves children and young people and I suspect this was as much fun for him as it was for them. He was outside in the sunshine. Great pictures and videos, Chipsticks.

I started going through some bookmarked articles and don’t know if I got this from you or not. It’s a Canadian Business analysis about the resolution of the shut down threat and the difficult realities of politics. Seems to be a balanced piece.

(quote) The showdown serves as a reminder that for all the powers that come with the presidency, one of the perils is an agenda you cannot control. Crises like Libya, Egypt, Japan’s earthquake, Iraq and Afghanistan all demand his attention.
In public, Obama tried to keep it at arm’s length.

“I shouldn’t have to oversee a process in which Congress deals with last year’s budget,” Obama said as the time got short this week.

But in fact he was involved up to his neck.

It was Obama’s veto threat that made clear he would not accept the scope of spending cuts Republicans wanted. It was Obama who said he would accept no more short-term bills to keep the government afloat for a couple weeks at a time unless there was a broader deal in hand. And it was Obama who kept saying it was time for leaders to act like grown-ups.(endquote)

    • 80 Lovepolitics2008
      April 11, 2011 at 9:24 pm

And I think for the most part it is HIS team at the OMB and the different agencies who came up with the whole budget and the possible cuts. They went out of their way to limit the damage. They identified the programs which were the least effective. And I suppose they thought of ways to compensate the loss of those programs by consolidating other programs, make them more performant, etc…
