guess who visited the lincoln memorial today? (videos added)

(Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)

After signing a measure to keep the government open, President Obama visited the Lincoln Memorial and stated:

“Because Congress was able to settle its differences, that’s why this place is open today and everybody’s able to enjoy their visit. And that’s the kind of future cooperation I hope we have going forward. Because this is what America is all about: Everybody from different places enjoying those things that bind us together. It is wonderful to spend time with you guys, I hope you have a great time.”

If you have to cancel one trip, take another one, in town. The president is continuing to make the PBO and President Lincoln connection. I wish he’d stopped by for a visit when my daughter and I were there last year. 😦

Majii, I saw your comments at PoliticusUSA today. Great job. I appreciated the way you responded to that teabaggers. Informed but didn’t attack. Great work. I also enjoy seeing your comments on P M Carpenter. Very small, but important site.

Then of course we have the lovable, generous, fabulous Chipsticks.

All I need to see, at least once a day, are people that are so happy to see PBO. It makes me grin from ear to ear. What a great feeling.

I just read this on Twitter and saw a couple of photos and knew immediately I had to come here! ‘Cause you know Chips is going to be all over it before everybody else has even laced up their tired shoes! LOVE all these wonderful photos. And what a brilliant idea to go the the memorial since his weekend with the family in Williamsburg got all messed up. BRAVO!!!!

Too bad the public is turning on our President!
Too bad our President has lost his swagger!
Too bad our President can’t get anything done!

That little girl in blue was having the best day of her life, a day to remember always. She was so thrilled. I can’t help but feel there is something special about this President in the way people react to him, young and old, all colors of the rainbow. They feel a connection. They love him. I saw a bit of that with Kennedy, but not like this.

I wanted good news this morning, Chipsticks, and sent my request out into this loving Universe. My inner voice told me to visit you first and I saw these pictures. I looked at all those big, happy smiles as people reached out to him and I could just see the light shine from him. Working with him and for him is where I want to be.

One time last year I called a prayer line I really like, Unity. It’s so positive and loving. I called because I was concerned about President Obama and the woman gave the most beautiful prayer that she said with such love — it became almost a song. I was just enthralled by what she was saying and I wish I could remember all she said. What I do remember is that she said he is a shining light and he really is. She said people don’t know this, but there are millions of prayers that go out about him and I felt so comforted that, not only there is this concern and wish for well-being for him, but that these prayers are so positive and loving.

I just love our President. And you just get better and better and better, Chipsticks.

Suzanne, thank you for sharing that story about calling the prayer line! There are so many of us praying for God’s grace and protection over our amazing President and how wonderful to hear that the lady confirmed that there are so many more of us! God is good!

Just look at that crowd! Faces from every race and creed and age smiling and reaching out shake our most extraordinary President!

May God continue to shepherd, bless, protect, guide, guard and defend our once in a lifetime President, Barack Obama! Amen, amen, amen!

ROFLMAO In the 5th pic the girl in purple looks like she’s about to fly over the heads of everyone there, and in the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth pics she is right up front. I swear she did fly!

The President’s face on the eighth pic with this young girl looks like he’s noticing the same thing too.

I’m just laughing so hard. Looks like she will give some of the posters here a run for their money. 😆

The President was working the Secret Service pretty hard today. Not only did he make them run up the stairs, three stairs at a time but these spontaneous outings make them work extra hard. You can see by the looks on their faces today that they are very serious about their jobs but they must dread outings where they can’t prescreen everyone in the area and he is so out in the open. Put out good thoughts for them!

    wow! Just wow!

These photos are amazing! Our president is incredible. A hard, tiring fight and the next day he is out to meet the people and to powerfully illustrate the importance of something that we may have lost if there had been s shut down.

Compare his actions to GWB’s now infamous “mission accomplished” stunt. What a difference an election makes, especially when you get the right person for the times.
The photo that has 4 people of different ethnicities, AA, Asian, Indian, Caucasian, all reaching out in joy and excitement to our bi-racial president, says it all. This photo makes me even more proud to be an American, so proud of our president, and so happy and thankful that I am alive during such a remarkable time in the world’s history.

What a difference a day makes.

Oh, and Suzanne, I love Unity and live very close to their international headquarters. Those dedicated people are so full of the Spirit and so positive. They soothe the soul. beautiful sight to see so many people from all walks of life in so much communion with each other and with the President!

I was impressed by a number of joyous reactions in these photos and videos.

Did other also notice the special touch President Obama shared with the uniformed law enforcement officer (do not know if US Secret Service, Park Police or DC Police) but the officer acted surprised that his hand was specifically sought out by POTUS. It is very important to know that these people who work long hours to keep the peace are much appreciated by those who receive their dedicated service

Thank you Chipsticks for the uplifting pictures. 2 + years of incessant abuse from the press, pundits, bloggers, teabaggers; intentional obstruction of unprecedented proportions from the Republicans in Congress; and, yet, without any warning, without any staging, no pre-screened crowds, etc., he arrives and people of every color, size, background are all smiling and laughing and shouting their obvious affection for our President.

And, as many have noted above (in heartfelt and eloquent terms) the children and young folk are simply thrilled and they see how he reciprocates their joy and sincerity.

Lovely way to spend a few moments on a Saturday afternoon – being here with all of you and viewing these photos and videos.

Re: the video of Obama with his surrounding SS people constantly on the move. The neck swiveling alone would put me in the hospital, not to mention walking backwards at top speed.
My heart, gratitude, and best wishes go out to all of them. But I do wish they’d practice their running. They shouldn’t let him get anywhere near ahead of them! I kept thinking, what if one of them tripped on a step an fell? That would be beyond embarrassing, and I’ll bet anything that something like that is always in the back of their minds.

Thanks for posting these pictures. I rely on you for Obama pictures, and I use them all the time as you may know. This set of pictures made me think of Richard Nixon’s visit to the Lincoln Memorial in 1970. What different times we live in today. My post on the contrast is here: http://www.hopeandchange.net/2011/04/different-times.html

I am compelled to comment today. I too enjoy seeing our POTUS and I enjoy even more seeing the reaction he gets from people when he gives a simple wave to a crowd. It seems like everyone feels he’s waving directly at them. The joy on their faces is priceless. Thank you Chips for providing this location where we can get our Obama joy daily!

The little girl in the blue jacket………the picture…….priceless.

The other little girl taking a picture of the President on her phone……the picture……..priceless, especially when it looks like she high fived the President.

Lastly, absolutely no disrespect to the first lady but she has an incredibly sexy husband. Phew !!

BTW, I admire the President for getting out and about after the fiasco that nearly closed down America yesterday. He’s a true survivor, a true stayer and the haters must be driving themselves mad that this man gets stronger in the face of unimaginable adversity.

    Good Sunday Morning Everyone:-)

When our President is out and about….Everyone has a story to tell….I found this Awesome video about yesterday event…
    and wanted to share:-)

    Love and Peace!!!

    Me shaking President Obama’s hand!

I can’t believe this actually happened! I am in the Marine Corps and deploying overseas this month so I decided to drive up to Washington D.C. for the first time this weekend and actually met the president! Everything worked out perfectly while sight seeing because he only stopped by the Lincoln Memorial for a few minutes. I’m still completely amazed that this actually happened.

I am thinking the Secret Service Agents must have one of the most stressful jobs on earth besides actually being the POTUS. Can you imagine never ever letting your guard down to protect president Obama? Every second they have to have their minds in a million different places considering safety, location, caution, protection, position, travel, crowd control, etc. My heartfelt thanks goes out to them.

  76. April 10, 2011 at 2:23 pm

God continue to watch over the President’s Secret Service detail. Let us all send prayers out to them each and every day. Federal public servants doing the job because they dedicate their lives to the safety of our leaders especially my POTUS.

  77. April 10, 2011 at 2:43 pm

Every time I see the Secret Service, I am remembering Kevin Costner in the “Bodyguard” and how remorseful he was having been a SS agent for Reagan when he got shot. Fiction of course, on Costner’s part, but I am sure these guys take their jobs “super serious”. I especially WANT THEM SERIOUS at this time when our beloved President is trying to clean up this mess in our country. There seems to be more “loonies’ out there than usual now that President Obama is in office. I don’t want any of our presidents hurt and especially this President.

This was a wonderful treat, Chipsticks. Thank you so very much. It is just a gracious blessing to see how our POTUS comes out with victory. He did a great and lovely act by coming out and making a stop to greet these wonderful visitors. What a day he just came off of, and now look at him there. What an answer to prayer. We must and will continue to pray for our POTUS. I loved the moment where he stopped and greeted the policeman there. What a great man, our POTUS is for this time in our history and in our lives. We thank your God for this wonderful gift.
