behind the scenes

CNN: … The White House was feeling optimistic that it was on the verge of a deal Thursday night. John Boehner and Harry Reid left the Oval Office meeting, “there was kind of an agreement on a range and agreement on the kind of composition,” said one of five officials who briefed reporters.

But by three or four o’clock in the morning Friday, the officials described a breakdown … “There was a higher number,” said one official, “north of $80 billion dollars. There was also renewed talk about family planning.

As sharp verbal punches were thrown throughout the day on Capitol Hill, the White House kept silent. The president never made any public statements and spokesman Jay Carney never held his daily briefing. That was not by accident…

It was a “directive from him [president],” one official said. The idea was to stay out of sight, avoid finger pointing, and allow negotiators to work out a compromise.

…”Every time the process seemed to get bogged down the president picked up the phone and made clear that we had a responsibility to the American people…that we shouldn’t play politics. He did not want this to become a family planning bill he wanted it to be a spending bill”…

…on Friday the president spoke by phone with House Speaker Boehner four times. He also spoke with Senate majority leader Reid “multiple times”…

During one of the Oval Office meeting this week, one of the officials described how the president went through every controversial rider that Republicans wanted …In describing the tone of these meetings one official said “at no point did the discussions in the room get personal”. The president never scolded Boehner for public comments that appeared to contradict what was being discussed in private negotiations….

Neither side wanted a government shutdown, but the president wasn’t willing to give ground on allowing the controversial family planning rider to be part of the deal. “…we just were not going to move on this”…

….So what forced the deal? “The clock probably played the most important factor,” said one of the officials. With the clock winding down Rob Nabors, the President’s Legislative Affairs Director, was on the Hill, kept the White House informed throughout the negotiation process and signaled that a deal had been reached. It was White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley who informed the president around 10:30pm.

I’m always amazed (I know I shouldn’t be) what a great President we have – a President who stays focused on governing (not playing politics) and refrains from childish finger pointing.

What a dream he is – in wisdom, personality, character, style, looks – *sigh*

“neither side wanted a government shut-down”. So that would mean the republicans realized the shut-down would be blamed on them, and not PBO…

and here’s the intro. If you can’t tell I have a “mild” obsession with Beyonce. I also have a “mild” obsession with Michelle. So get them working together on a project and, well, this happens…..and by this I mean my manic abuse of youtube posting, sorry….here’s the intro to the video:

if you didn’t get it, “mild” means obscene.

Good question cuphalffull. For this group, Beyonce or MO probably had them made up specifically for the video. However, I did some research and checked on letsmove.gov, but could come up with no definitive answers:( I really want a shirt too. I’ll keep my ears to the ground and give you a heads up if or when I do find out.

I’m so proud of our President and Harry Reid. They came out of this looking great while the repugs look like foolish children. Thanks Chipsticks for keeping on top of all of this for us.

Unbelievable. How could you not want to scold Boner the same way you would want to bitch slap Whiner. Oh well, I guess that’s why he’s President.

He’s applying the principles of one of his heroes, Ghandi, that is: if you want to see change, you have to BE the change first.

Let him remind you of how big you can become! The art of the possible.

BWD, no one in this community considers you “small”, quite the contrary. You inform, comfort, encourage and inspire us through your efforts…..no small feat, you are enormously important and appreciated by many. Both you and Chipsticks are gifts that just keep on giving…..my grateful heart says Thank you.

I respect and trust our President to do what’s right for we the people. Thank you Mr. President. Seem like the loud mouth, the outragous, the just plain racists get heard the most, but the supporters of this President is silent. Not any more. We need to lift our voice and let them know we still support our President.

I don’t know but it seems to me the President had a sly smirk on his face during the last speech, as well he deserves to. Remember back at the end of last year when he 1st presented his budget and it contained all these cuts and the extreme frustratii were complaining then about all the social program cuts, such as weatherization and food stamps? Well at some point it came out that these cuts were pretty much on the extra monies that were provided by the stimulus package. In other words the cuts were going to be there anyway because the stimulus was always intended to be a one time deal. So unless they passed another stimulus the funds wouldn’t be there anyway!

These ‘cuts’ brings the budget to just about pre-stim levels, which -in essence- is not much of a cut at all.

The stimulus, while arguably small, did (along with lots of other initiatives passed by the 111th congress and this President’s tireless efforts) have the desired effect of averting a greater catastrophe and buying us the time needed to get the country back on solid footing (ie on the road to recovery).

But shhh, don’t tell the two extremes because we don’t want to burst their righteous bubbles. Bless them, for although they are loud, they are few and oh so willfully ignorant!

What we can and must do is remember this outcome, and any of at least a dozen other times when we’ve bought into the msm meme and found ourselves wracked with angst; that the pundits have been wrong for 2+ years now yet show no signs of changing.

As to the Beyonce video, that is pure genius! Remember the Macarena? How everyone was doing it? Well this can go viral in the same way, but if you look closely they warm up, get going more and cool down. Just like you’re supposed to when exercising. And I love how they actually use all the different muscle parts while creating just enough space here and there for people to do their own interpretations. i.e. not everyone is doing the same things all the time. That makes it more personal and allows for variation of body types.

Another great day of wonderful news regarding the direction of this country under the tireless efforts of some mighty Progressive leaders. And yes, that is with a capital P. Thanks Chipsticks. Woo Hoo!
