‘the liberal whine-o’-meter’

Mark Morford (San Francisco Chronicle): And suddenly we come to the crux of the problem: What shall we do about Barack in 2012? ….This is apparently now how it works in American politics: You are allowed no more than 2.4 years of impossibly difficult service as redeemer president, shouldering the overwhelming burden of failure foisted on you by your pathetic predecessor, before you have to start … all over again.

….liberals are, as they say, up against it. Many are fidgeting and fussing, puling about the fact that, while they grudgingly admit Obama has mostly been a fine, articulate, highly regarded president who has passed a huge amount of progressive legislation and returned America to a place of relative honor in the international community, turns out he’s not been nearly fine enough.

Just the opposite, in fact. To the sneering disappointment of the puritanical left, Obama has turned out to be pretty much exactly what he said he’d be during his ’08 campaign…

In short, Obama has failed. He has not at all been the delicious chocolatey superjesus of radical sociopolitical transformation most on the hard left hoped, prayed and sacrificed precious Prius bumper ad space he would be.

…Let us now check the liberal Whine-O’-Meter…. (see here)

…Sure, the extremely difficult Iraq drawdown is going brilliantly, on time and on target. Sure, the economy is recovering, a little. Sure Obama saved GM and a million jobs. Sure he’s great on women’s rights, unemployment and housing aid, college loans, science, high-speed rail, all sorts of non-sensational but still hugely impressive triumphs that never make screaming 300-point headlines in HuffPo, TPM and Politico.

… Obama has a sense of the long view like no president in our lifetime. He seems to understand that his true positive impact will be felt cumulatively, over time, way down the road (your kids will love him). He thinks not egomaniacally, not insta-gratifyingly, but historically. This alone makes him one of the most remarkable politicians of any stripe, now or ever….

… while libs can whine all they want about Obama’s imperfections and so-called failures, the instant you turn it all around and look at the alternatives, and then hitch them to the current GOP-led House’s plans to gut the budget and spew hate on women and gays, the arts and the poor, promote Islamophobia and kowtow to the rich, well, suddenly Obama shines all over again like the gleaming savior we all want him to be.

Suddenly all the complaining turns into nitpicking. Suddenly that vague dissatisfaction is instantly overshadowed by this shuddering, sour tang deep in the gut that just about screams OMFG, thank God Obama’s there, how much worse off we’d be without him, how much good he’s actually accomplished, how blessed his articulate intelligence, how proud we are every time he travels abroad – please, please, please don’t ever leave and sorry we complained in the first place and oh my God please don’t leave.

…So count your presidential blessings, libs, for while they may be tattered and rashy and often pinch and ride up, they are, on the whole, still plentiful and hugely impressive and just shockingly better than any alternative you can name, much less vote for. And you know it.

Good morning O Family! I haven’t been sleep at all. SMH. End-of-the-semester woes.

Anywhoo – I love this article. The left angers me just as much as the right.

Morning Collegekay, you poor thing, you must be exhausted! Hope you make it through the day without nodding off!

Amen, amen, amen, Mark Morford. There it is, some hard, uncomfortable truths for the perpetually whiny PL. Thank you!

The PL and the Tea folks are in the same pathetic arena. I am proud of my president and I will not forget the mess that W. left for him to clean up and when I can grab a mop to help him out, you bet I will not hesitate to do so.

    G’morning all!

Good morning, Ms. Chipsticks, and TOD family. Color me shocked to find this article in the abbreviated pundit feature in that other place. How’d that happen?

Hope our president had a good sleep since he had to deal with that cry baby so late into the night. Them meme of the day is how PBO is not leading. Anybody remember when the bottom fell out of the economy and Bush hid and didn’t speak to the American people for days? The msm is full of crap. Congress gets paid good taxpayer dollars to do a job; PBO should not have to do it for them.

What a spectacular piece of writing–utterly true and well-stated! I’d never have found it without this place!

    I love this sentence:

In short, Obama has failed. He has not at all been the delicious chocolatey superjesus of radical sociopolitical transformation most on the hard left hoped, prayed and sacrificed precious Prius bumper ad space he would be.

    Oh noes!!

I would just add that I consider a President who takes the long view.. mighty studly 😉

I never forget when reading/ hearing about the ‘disgruntled left’ that they are not necessarily the left.. most of those loud abnoxious few were republicans before they weren’t.. and imo never stopped being republicans.. Ed, Cenk, Arianna, Markos.. and theres more I can’t name.. and I never forget that some of those other loudmouths on the ‘left’ have been biotching about President Obama from the day he was inaugurated and they’ve not let up since. They’re remarkably consistent in their bs complaints. And again, I don’t think they represent liberals.

Mark Morford has written a couple of good articles like this- reality based support of POTUS- he’s on facebook by the way and ya’ll can ‘like’ him there- for support.

thank you so much Chipsticks for all that you’re doing.. I post your blog on Facebook throughout the day as I love sharing your stuff 🙂 Happy Thursday all~

Happy Thursday to you too sherijr! You picked out my most loved line from the article, cracked me up:

“In short, Obama has failed. He has not at all been the delicious chocolatey superjesus of radical sociopolitical transformation most on the hard left hoped, prayed and sacrificed precious Prius bumper ad space he would be.”

Mark Morford wrote an excellent article after the mid-term elections, Nov 3, 2010, A Letter to A Whiny Young Democrat. Yesterdays article was spot on as well. (I for some reason can’t put a reasonable thought together in my head, let alone transfer it to the screen, suffice to say…it worth reading. Especially, now that we have real time examples happening in Wisconsin, Michigan, Florida, et al, demonstrating the consequences of voter apathy.

Thats when I discovered Mark- when he wrote the article ‘letter to whiny young dem’ . He’s been pretty darn consistent and I like his frankness.

Quick question Ms. Chips, do we ever forward articles like these to the whitehouse? They’re all probably so busy, they never get the time to search for or see articles like these. The PL has become too vocal in their “disappointment” with PBO and appear to be drowning the rest of us out. I think I want to e-mail these links to the whitehouse comments page.

Great article. I think this is the same guy who has written several “this is as good as it gets for a liberal prez in our lifetimes so deal with it” articles.

I disagree with some of the comments here how the Left is as bad as the right. They are not nearly as insane. They come up with some whacky arguments but they don’t use completely made up conspiracies like the birthers for example.

Yes, their attitudes can be frustrating when you step back and look at how much progress we made but still no where near as bad as the freak show on the right.

Wow, what a magnificent, spot on article. The msm and the PL we know have since day one plotted for Potus’ failure. But they can go pound sand coz the majority still have a memory and know exactly what our Pres. inherited and how much he has accomplished so far. So screw you.

What a great article by mark, once again. This caused me to write the following email to Bartcop (who I can’ barely bring myself to even read anymore):

My dearest Bart & Geezer –

Just thinking about you two boys on my 5 second drive in to work this morning……. wishing we could share a drink soon. I miss that.

First off, let me say I’m not writing this to change your minds regarding Obama. I can’t. it would be a waste of my energy to try. I am however, writing to let you in on how I feel.

I’m trying to let go of my frustrations about those on the left who are complaining that Obama isn’t John Shaft. I can’t care anymore. Just like I can’t care that there are crazy people on the right who love and worship the likes of Beck, Palin, and Bachmann, and in their creationism, prove that I have indeed evolved past their lizard brain world, and that my existence alone proves evolution as a fact. They will never see that, because they still have lizard brains.

    So, here it is:

If given a choice of having John Shaft/SuperAssKicker for POTUS who draws a hardline in the sand, on – oh, well, anything really, but let’s say for the sake of this argument and to illustrate my point – Health Care.

    Two Choices:

    Shaft or Obama?

President Shaft says, Single Payer or NOTHING. Fuck you GOP, we control EVERY FUCKING BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT, so KISS MY TIGHT BLACK ASS, or I will CUT YOU BITCH! So Shaft stands there, on his hard line, not moving, not negotiating, not talking about any other item or problem facing us as not only a nation, but the greater globe in general.

While that would be awesome, in a movie, it would really suck in real life. Why? Because aside from the obvious that I don’t want my POTUS acting like a narrow-minded thug, no matter how badass he is, we also have to look at reality. While the Dems controlled the House/Senate/Executive branches, IN THEORY, they didn’t in reality. As I’ve said before, we never had the 60 votes in the Senate that the inbred muck dwellers knew they could insist on, because so many have been bought and paid for by the corporate lobbyists, etc… (and let’s not even discuss the Supreme Court.)

So what happens when you have John Shaft drawing the hard line in the sand, and don’t get the votes to go with it? NOTHING. You get health care brought down, dead in the water, more of the status quo YET AGAIN. Like Truman, like Nixon, like Clinton. You get NOTHING. You also get a guy who is so tunnel visioned, he can’t get ANYTHING done.

How is that good??? It might make you feel better for a day, or a week, and you can say, well, MY GUY actually STOOD FOR SOMETHING. Well, good for you. But you GET NOTHING but a peen-stroke.

My ego is not that fragile. I don’t need to feel like that, and I for one, will take SOMETHING over NOTHING every time. Especially since that SOMETHING we have now, is a billion times better than what we had, AND will cause Single Payer to come to fruition in the long run.

    How? It’s easy.

In 2014, when the non-profit companies come on to the exchanges they will take over the market, and force the existing Embezzlement Corporations to either adapt, or die. Non-profit companies won’t have $12million CEOs to feed and shelter. They won’t have stocks to sell, and profit reports to doctor. They won’t be spending millions of dollars on TV advertising. But the main thing they won’t be doing is funneling billions of dollars into the GOP political campaigns. They will be offering much better plans for far lower premiums, and in the long run, will merge and evolve into first state-run single payer systems, then eventually a national system that removes the insurance aspect entirely. Oh sure, there will still be companies who sell insurance for those that really want it to make themselves feel better, and for fluff, optional procedures like plastic surgery, etc….. just like they exist in Europe and Canada now. There will always be a market to take people’s money. but the DOOR IS NOW OPEN. It didn’t even exist before.

I LIKE the way Obama operates. I understand that he doesn’t have the Progressive Army he should. One where he could close Gitmo, (Congress created it, and must destroy it), one where we could have all the banksters in prison and all the rich people taxed at 75%.

I believe that’s on the way in 2012 because Obama gave the Right, who are all batshit crazy, and have over reached right up their own asses and dislodged their own brain stems, (see Wisconsin), not only all the rope they needed, but handed it to them in the shape of a noose, only they’re collectively too lizard-brained to see it. Obama has played, and continues to play them like a maestro. People are pissed. Most people know Obama and the Dems were held hostage by the tax-cuts for the rich, and are seeing this insane talk of shutdown and gutting of social programs all comes down to those insane Bush tax cuts. I think Obama played it perfectly for 2012 – Elect me, or those will be permanent…..

Anyway – Obama would be better if we sent people more progressive people to DC who had a vagina and a spine, instead of a wimpy ball sac that gets scared and weak at the slightest breeze. But then I like that he is EVERYONE’s POTUS, not just mine. I LOVE how the entire world loves and respects him, and I love how he thinks long term.

For more – please read Mark Morford’s latest piece he says it much better than I can.

Wowwwwwwwwwwww Tally, I don’t know you, and you don’t know me, but let me tell you, GIRLFRIEND, you got GUTS!!! You told them so much truth, until I felt bad for them as they were reading. I betcha their tails went straight between their legs, Lol, annnnnnnnd they probably felt like Tom Dooley too.

Yes, the article by Mark Morford was soooooooooooooo stimulating to my soul. There are some Honest and Candid People In this world, It’s just that we are more HUMBLE than the Tea Baggers, and Naysayers. We think more like DEMOCRATICS. Being our Brother’s Keeper, having Passion and Compassion for People who are struggling. You know, being HONEST, and not telling BLATENT LIES!!! Look, we believe In helping and serving. I’m speaking of the REAL and ORIGINAL DEMOCRATS. But yeahhhhhh, I sure did enjoy that article, now that was being “REALISTIC”, In every sense of the word. I like It 🙂

      Thank you Shirley!!! ❤❤❤

Actually I got a typical response of “I refuse to vote for the less of two evils” nonsense. And I proceeded to be sad for his narrow vision, and said,

“I believe knowingly drinking poison, and not drinking it, is a CHOICE, not an argument.

If you want to wait for the perfect person to vote for, then by all means do so. But your not voting is still an action, you may sleep at night, but you still bear responsibility for allowing the crazies to take over.”

I know it’s falling on deaf ears, but I’m glad I said it.
