BWD has a live discussion thread on the President’s address at The Only Adult in the Room

BWD posted a link earlier to this wonderful post at Salon:

Tonight, when the President speaks to the nation about Libya, let’s do something different.

Let’s listen. Let’s listen, and then turn the television off and think about what he’s said. Mull it over in your mind, but only after having watched the thing and having imagined that the President was really talking to you.

You see, a lot of helpful people in the media think the viewing public is stupid. Well, a lot of them damned well know it. And the ones who don’t, have actually convinced the viewing public that, because they happen to be  celebrity talking head on television, they know far more and far better what the President wants to say to you, and so they give you their interpretation and tell you that’s what he really, really, really meant to say…..

Great post. It is for the best. I stopped listening to pundits after his address on ending the combat mission in Iraq. The so-called experts always think they know better than PBO; saying what he shouldve said blah blah.

I remember I watched that and as soon as he was finished talking I switched to something else. I was not trying to hear it. I didn’t find out that the pundits thought that was his worst speech until the Tucson speech (which was one of his best).

    Hi Chips,
I posted that on my Facebook and passed it on. Told them that they need to listen, and then take it all in and make up there own minds without the MSM pundits telling them what to think.
Are you going to have an open thread when the speech is done?

I have already started, today I have not listen to any of the cable chatter, MSNBC, CNN, I never listen to Fox. And after the President speak tonight, I will not listen to them either. CBS,NBC,ABC, none of them. The only one I plan to listen to tonight is President Obama.

Yes, I too resent it that these so-called pundits think they have to explain what the President says! HE’s clear…..they are jealous. I hear him as well as they do, and am intelligent and can understand him. It seems to me that they are the ones who don’t understand!

Wow. Just watched his speech and I am bowled over! This is the policy he has always been speaking about, but now we see it in action. He has built the good solid relationships with the leaders and people of other countries. He has shown he supports the people of each country in determining their future — with assistance if needed like they are doing in Libya — but so clearly he is empowering the people of that country to determine their own future. He considered and supported the people creating new democracies in Egypt and others who would have had to deal with refugees from Libya if this intervention hadn’t happened. It was a legal action with a strengthened NATO coalition. I want to read the transcript when they have it — I had so many thoughts going on that I don’t think I took it in.

I watched it on the White House live stream and the only pundit in sight is me!! LOL.

    Wonderful.

    OMG!

I have chills and I am almost in tears.

PBO just delivered a master class in citizenship. He was so forceful, clear, inspiring…I do not have enough words to express all that I feel.

He answered all of his critics and showed everyone who is in charge.

Let the word go forth throughout all of the lands that here is a MAN and a LEADER that the times demand.

I am so overwhelmed and full; I cannot get all of the words out.

How lucky blessed are we that he belongs to us.

May God bless and protect all who are longing to be free and may he continue to guide and protect our president.

Listened to my President. His speech was very strong in everyway. I am filled with appreciation to be an American, and living during this time where President Barack H. Obama is in the Oval Office as CIC, and President of a nation where the pages are being turned for the better. New guy in town, and I like what I see and what I hear from him.
