morning

President Barack Obama jokingly puts his toe on the scale as Trip Director Marvin Nicholson, unaware to the President’s action, weighs himself as the presidential entourage passed through the volleyball locker room at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, Aug. 9, 2010. (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)

Morning everyone 😉

Apart from the weekly address, I didn’t get a chance to update the blog yesterday, was out and about for most of the day – and, needless to say, I missed you all!

Will catch up with emails and comments asap, have a super Sunday!

Good morning! What a great way to start the day with this funny foto! I still chuckle even tho I’ve seen this foto a gazillion time. So handsome, brilliant, calm, funny – *sigh* Thanks Chip for all you do.

Here’s a quote from Inside Obama’s Brain I’d like to share:
From Loretta Augustine-Herron , one of Obama’s closest friends from his organizing days in the mid-1980’s:
“He was always such a good person, caring, really did care about people. I understood how hard he worked, and that a lot of that work was done for us. And we weren’t paying him very much . . . That’s once in a lifetime thing, that somebody comes into your life and actually cares about how it turns out.” p.215
He is our once in a lifetime President that other nations can only dream of.

    good Sunday morning Chip;Lookingglass;Obamalia;fig 😀

Bolton has the audacity to say that the President is “not qualified to be President” 🙄

Chris Wallace was bitching that “the Obama White House sent SOS and the SOD Clinton and Gates on ABC;NBC and CBS but not Fox despite Fox having the most viewers combined” 😆

Wallace needs to understand that having the “most viewers” doesn’t mean having the better quality news 🙄 not that the others are better but they are sure as hell are better

All, poor whittle Chris. Feeling left out, huh? And Bolton, what exactly did he do anyway? I barely remember, really. Those people are pure D evil. Listening to my gospel this morning and the host prayed for our strength in the face of wickedness, and perseverance through the storms. I thought so much of President Obama, and believe me, she had him in mind as she prayed. There are many, many principled people who are praying for him, each and everyday. He has the protection of the angels through all of this, so we, his supporters, must be ever vigilant in holding him up. But let’s not ever fail to fire back at the evil through whatever means we have, so as not to allow the lies to retain the foothold on the present discourse. Amen?

Amen to your thoughts and sage advice. We all can and must do our part.

Not a question. Did not understand what you meant by your statement “Be careful where you steer this thing.” Care to elaborate?

          • March 27, 2011 at 2:41 pm

Hey, what’s going on here you two?!

Lookingglassjourney, I don’t mean to butt in – well, I do – but I have no clue what you meant when you said “Be careful where you steer this thing” to EDP4BHO and I don’t understand your follow-up ‘explanation’.

Come on, let’s be civil people.

And let’s leave statements like “Don’t be messing with my country” to the other ‘side’ – it’s that kind of uber nationalism that has the planet ****ed up!

            😉

            • March 27, 2011 at 4:02 pm

I have no clue where all this aggression is coming from all of a sudden, it’s bizarre! Your response to EDP4BHO’s comment was uncalled for, how on earth could you interpret “All, poor whittle Chris (Wallace)” as an attack on America?!

And seriously, do you truly believe America is alone on earth as a nation that represents “freedom”?!

Lookingglassjourney, has a Teabagger hijacked your account?!

              • March 27, 2011 at 4:15 pm

Hi people, just to explain (in case you can make no sense of this thread!), I’ve decided to remove lookingglassjourney’s comments directed towards EDP4BHO because they were, frankly, bizarre. I want this place to remain a bit of relief for people tired of all the attacks on most other sites, so I won’t have that kind of stuff here. Lookingglassjourney is welcome to come back if the attacks stop! Thanks.

Hi Majii, I should have ended it much earlier, sorry about that. I have absolutely no idea what it was all about, the poster seemed perfectly reasonable before today! Any way, they’re gone, there’ll be no repeat.

Hey Chipsticks, just FYI- this poster made some similar bizarre comments yesterday (Saturday) morning on BWD’s site, literally accusing her of deliberately scrubbing his/her posts and “jacking up” his/her posts. We had the same reaction as you did. We did not understand what it was about, and BWD got a similar angry and paranoid sounding response from this poster as you did when she told him/her that she didn’t understand where the poster was coming from. BWD eventually deleted the whole chain of conversation involving that poster. Either this poster has some illness that we are not aware of, or their account has been hijacked as you stated.

                    • March 27, 2011 at 7:27 pm

Thanks so much Hopefruit2, I was tipped off earlier about the same thing happening at BWD’s site – I missed it all yesterday because I was out for the day, otherwise I would have been prepared for it! It just made no sense to me, this poster had never acted like that before. I suspect an account hijacking alright, I really hope it’s not that they aren’t well. Thanks again.

I left for the day only to come and find that person’s responses wiped away. Whew, I guess I missed something. I checked him/her out on BWD from the weekend, and noticed the aggression towards at least one commenter there. Chipsticks, I wasn’t going to go postal on the person, as I thought about it, just try to reason if at all possible. Well, you saved me the trouble, so thanks, buddy, and a good nite to you as well, and to all of you lovely people 😀

Wallace and Fox should be ashamed of themselves after being caught lying about journalists being used as “human shields” earlier this week. If Fox wants to get the heaviest of the heavy hitters, it has to stop being an extension of the GOP. It’s this simple. IMO, this is the biggest rebuke the Obama Administration could give to Fox, and it is well deserved.

Backdoor Bolton needs to keep his mouth shut. GWB had to recess appoint him because the Senate would have never confirmed him. Plus, he’s a liar. He’s pizzzed because when he was Amb. to the U.N. and GWB wanted to invade Iraq, he smeared the UN. because it wouldn’t automatically rubber stamp the invasion of Iraq. He’s also a jealous and a petty man. PBO did something that he knows GWB could never have accomplished: he got multilateral cooperation to conduct operations in Libya, and he didn’t pizzz off the other Islamic nations in the ME (not counting Iran here.)

Fred, there are as many or more people recognizing the positives about the president. I don’t pay attention to the nay sayers — they want attention and giving it to them just makes more noise that pulls people down. This president will be remembered for generations. The naysayers could be gone tomorrow and no one would notice. They’re just not worth the time.

I had started posting something I received from a church along the route PBO traveled in Philly last November during the mid-terms. A beautiful chart stating a mission statement in prayer for the President, giving scriptures for a week. I thought these fitting before PBO’s address to the nation tomorrow:

In this time during the administration of President Barack H. Obama, We pray that:

His faith and trust in God, through Jesus Christ, be strengthened to be an example to the world. Proverbs 3:5, Hebrews 11

No weapon forged against him will prevail, and he will refute every tongue that accused him. This is the heritage and vindi-cation from me declares the Lord. Isaiah 54:17

Injustice and scorn against him will be revealed and appropriately shamed and destroyed. Proverbs 21:11, 20:26, 19:25

Please join me and that church in prayer for President Obama, as he faces many foes and wickedness. If you are not Christian, please pray in your own manner for same. Much respect and thanks.

EDP, there is a very positive, loving prayer line that I call when I feel I need help. They hold the caller in prayer for 30 days. One time I was worried about the President and called. The woman spoke the most beautiful prayer from her heart — it was almost a song and was so lovely I cried. She said many people call their prayer line about him and they had no idea that millions of loving prayers go out for him. Whenever I felt concerned about him after that I would think of her prayer and how so many people were joining together to send him Well-Being and love. President Obama sends out love, compassion and strength in everything he does. That’s where I want my heart and thoughts to be, too.

I join with you EDP, recognizing the Love that protects and guides President Obama and us. Thank you for sharing this.

Very thoughtful letter by Juan Cole about Libya: An Open Letter to the Left

    http://www.juancole.com/2011/03/an-open-letter-to-the-left-on-libya.html

It’s a very thoughtful read and he discusses the issues thoroughly. I highly recommend it, but I’ll just pick out some points to illustrate:

“Some have charged that the Libya action has a Neoconservative political odor. But the Neoconservatives hate the United Nations and wanted to destroy it. They went to war on Iraq despite the lack of UNSC authorization, in a way that clearly contravened the UN Charter. Their spokesman and briefly the ambassador to the UN, John Bolton, actually at one point denied that the United Nations even existed. The Neoconservatives loved deploying American muscle unilaterally, and rubbing it in everyone’s face. Those who would not go along were subjected to petty harassment. France, then deputy secretary of defense Paul Wolfowitz pledged, would be “punished” for declining to fall on Iraq at Washington’s whim. The Libya action, in contrast, observes all the norms of international law and multilateral consultation that the Neoconservatives despise. There is no pettiness. Germany is not ‘punished’ for not going along. Moreover, the Neoconservatives wanted to exercise primarily Anglo-American military might in the service of harming the public sector and enforced ‘shock therapy’ privatization so as to open the conquered country to Western corporate penetration. All this social engineering required boots on the ground, a land invasion and occupation. Mere limited aerial bombardment cannot effect the sort of extreme-capitalist revolution they seek. Libya 2011 is not like Iraq 2003 in any way.”

“The intervention in Libya was done in a legal way. It was provoked by a vote of the Arab League, including the newly liberated Egyptian and Tunisian governments. It was urged by a United Nations Security Council resolution, the gold standard for military intervention. (Contrary to what some alleged, the abstentions of Russia and China do not deprive the resolution of legitimacy or the force of law; only a veto could have done that. You can be arrested today on a law passed in the US Congress on which some members abstained from voting.)”

He argues the points from the left and ends with

“I would like to urge the Left to learn to chew gum and walk at the same time. It is possible to reason our way through, on a case-by-case basis, to an ethical progressive position that supports the ordinary folk in their travails in places like Libya. If we just don’t care if the people of Benghazi are subjected to murder and repression on a vast scale, we aren’t people of the Left. We should avoid making ‘foreign intervention’ an absolute taboo the way the Right makes abortion an absolute taboo if doing so makes us heartless (inflexible a priori positions often lead to heartlessness). It is now easy to forget that Winston Churchill held absolutely odious positions from a Left point of view and was an insufferable colonialist who opposed letting India go in 1947. His writings are full of racial stereotypes that are deeply offensive when read today. Some of his interventions were nevertheless noble and were almost universally supported by the Left of his day. The UN allies now rolling back Qaddafi are doing a good thing, whatever you think of some of their individual leaders.”

Greetings all, I have been visiting this site for so long I don’t remember when I started but am a serial lurker. Whenever I think I have something I want to add, someone beats me to it and I sigh in relief because that means I don’t have to ‘come out’. But I just figured it is about time that I brought you greetings from the Great White North. No, no not that one! The other great white north, Maine, where we are suffering under one of those bullying, lying, unethical new republican’t governors. (That’s the nicest way I can describe him.)

Maine is a very liberal state that lost it’s democratic hold with about 38% of the vote going to this rethug clown, er, person. This past election there was a lot of enthusiasm and a huge early voting by mail push. We were killing them with votes cast. However, it was a scene straight out of Mass. with an uninspiring, unmotivated dem candidate. We worked so hard to secure the early vote, but in the final stretch Mitchell had alienated most of the remaining democrats and independants. See http://www.mainesmajority.org for where things stand now. There is a big sorrow that we went with party lines instead of best suited because the independent candidate was better suited and probably would’ve won if we hadn’t pushed the early vote.

The take away is there is more than one way to loose the election!

    /rant -My apologies

Anyhoo just wanted to add my thanks and appreciation for this site and all the information I get here and at the other pragmatii sites. I did an early exodus from all the frustraii sites shortly after the election. The first to go was Huff N Puff. Happened after one of their earlier anti-Obama tirades when I said something defending him and my post went into moderation never to see the light of day. Then I used the back door by way of twitter and eventually that got blocked. he he he. I don’t miss any of those sites and try to never click links to them so I do appreciate when people fill me in on what I, ahem, ‘missed’.

I spend a lot of time spreading the information I get from here, BWD, OFA, Eclectablog, et al around the country to friends and family and want to say that most either know what ‘they’re’ doing to our president or don’t listen to MSM and continue to be amazed by this greatest of leaders. So there’s still hope.

I don’t know when I’ll get up the gumption to post again, but just wanted you to know that there are is a silent majority that ‘gets it’ with this president and the powers that oppose him at all costs and to the detriment of the country.

Finally, I really, really enjoyed our trip to latin America. Thanks for taking me on that journey.

Enjoy your day. The force is with him :;-):

We Missed you Chip..so glad you back:-)

I found this letter from the petition i was reading…in a public comments….It was profound and made me smile towards the end:-)

I really don’t understand some of the people who criticize President Obama and the coalition. These so-called critics sit in their air-conditioned offices and give us some very stupid advice. The fact remains that my country was and is facing genocide from the Kaddafi regime. This is not an academic exercise or philosophical debate. People in Libya are facing life and death issues. A week ago, this brutal killer Kaddafi was marching towards my city Benghazi with tanks, heavy artillery, missile launchers, and airplanes. This bloodthirsty butcher would have massacred half the people of Benghazi had the coalition forces not intervened! What other choices do we have? Are we just going to let him kill us in order to satisfy the selfish desires of some idiots who live far away? Those critics need to wake up from their fancies and live in the real world!

We thank President Obama and the coalition very much for their courageous stand towards our oppressed people. We will never forget their efforts. I recommend we hold massive demonstrations in the liberated areas in Libya carrying the pictures of Mr. Obama and American flags! This is in, my opinion, would show our appreciation, in real terms, to America and its allies. We may want to name a street in Benghazi after President Obama!
