So, I’m driving into Anchorage this morning.
Along with the usual herd of jackasses who, despite living in Alaska still don’t seem to know how to drive in snow, one vehicle in particular caught my eye.
It was one of those enormous black pickup trucks, with the huge knobby tires and smoked glass windows and chrome roll bar complete with half a dozen giant chrome halogen lights and a ten foot high antenna whipping about in the slipstream and pipe organ-like exhaust pipes jutting up from behind the cab belching thick plumes of white diesel smoke like the twin contrails of a fighter jet on full afterburner.
…What caught my eye were the bumper stickers:
– Proud American emblazoned across a red, white, and true blue Captain America shield;
– In God I trust, In big government I fear. We must protect the country we love!;
– and my perennial favorite: I love my country, it’s the damned government I hate.
…what caught my eye was the giant Confederate flag treatment in the back window.
Wait, what?
Proud American.
Confederate Flag.
Proud American.
Confederate Flag…..

Thank you so much for letting us know about this Suzanne
All I can say is WOW!
Absolutely excellent! For the first time, the whole Tea Party, Republican cabal, right wing mentality is explained in one place. The language is a little salty, so be warned. But the list of “hates” is a little frightening in its accuracy and completeness. I think it’s going to go right over the heads of those who it’s poking fun at, but this person has really captured the situation perfectly. Thanks for sharing.
I read this on AKMudflats this morning, and it is sooooo awesome!!!
He hit the nail on the head for what I see on roads here in Oklahoma too!
Me too. It is on my bookmarks list. The guy is great.
I always wonder how people could shout they love America but always whisper that they hate Americans.
I agree. This guy can write, and he can analyze things. I checked out some other parts of his blog. He has a very good post on the Arizona shooting. Worth checking out. Briefly, he calls out all those TPers who bleat about 2nd Amendment solutions and then try to deny that they’re calling for bloodbaths. As Theo67 said, a tad salty, but it is not gratuitous.
Thank you for the link and the kind comments.
You’ve got me pegged, I’m a little salty in the language department. I was a Sailor for most of my life, it shows.
Again, thank you//Jim Wright
Salty is good, jim!
Really thrilled you dropped by, appreciate it, I can’t tell you how much I loved your post, it was absolutely sublime. Visceral incandescent rage, but in a beautifully eloquent way! When I let rip it’s just a bunch of **** **** ****s, which is less than articulate. I hope you know how many people you speak for, your post struck a magnificent chord. You’re amazing, I hope you’ll forgive me for being so personal – but I love you!!
Thank you Jim – and, again, really honored that you dropped by.
Thank you for putting into words (salt and all) the hypocrisy that we’ve all been witnessing from those ruled by hate. You captured it all perfectly! I don’t even think they understand their own contradictions.
Thank you Jim. I will be checking up on you regularly. Keep up the good work. dr

Jim: You’re on my reading list. Thanks.
Good reading.
points made succintly (acknowledging that the nuns who taught me would probably bring out their “ruler for the knuckles” due to some Vatican-frowened-upon phrases).
some people amaze me with the contradictory vernom they spew! they seem to hate everything in the consititution that does not favor maintaing their priviledged status quo position in society and are very keen to deny other their rights and ability to prosper
You speak for so many Jim. Thank You.
What an excellent piece, capturing the reactionary right mindset so perfectly.
Mr Wright

The Navy does that to you. My dad was a Navy man and boy was he “salty.” Thanks so much for your post. You tell it like it is for sure.
Welcome, Salty Jim and come join our family.
Thanks for speaking out so eloquently and graphically, Jim. Maybe some people will read your post and recognize that their words don’t match their actions and beliefs. Please visit us here again.
Thanks!!!
Boy, dont you tell it as it is! You are speaking for the majority of us and hell yah, its the truth. Thanks for visiting.
Thanks Jim, for using words that needed to be used. Sometimes you need a little “salt” for maximum effect. Hey, I’ve never sailed the seas, but my mouth ain’t always “sugar”, if you get my drift. Just keep at it and give ’em, as the Irish part of President Obama might say, what for 😀
