guests of honor (video added)

At the official dinner in Santiago, hosted by Chilean President Sebastian Pinera and his wife Cecilia Morel, President Obama offered a toast to his Chilean hosts. He said he and his family and staff, as they flew in this morning on Air Force One, were “struck by the incredible beauty of the Andes”.

“To you, and the people of Santiago and Chile, thank you for the extraordinary hospitality that you have shown both me, Michelle and our daughters. … thank you for the friendship and strong bonds.”

“For many years, this was a symbol of how Chile lost its democracy. Today, it stands as a testament to how Chile regained and rebuilt your democracy. … At a time when others around world are reaching for own rights struggling for their own sense of dignity, Chile sends a powerful message.”

Obama referred directly to the democracy movements in the Middle East and North Africa before offering this thought: “Democracy can’t be imposed from the outside, it must spring from within from the hearts and souls of those who seek it.”

I think they have to make one more stop (El Salvadore) before they return. Not exactly sure what day they will be back. Maybe the MSM will calm down when our President is safely back home.

They’re back on Wednesday, bjw2, they visit El Salvador tomorrow.

What can he not do while traveling that he can do from the oval office? The White House travels with him. The MSM and Congress should move up with the times. As if he could have changed this trip for the pleasure of a few Congressen who are petty…..do they not begin to realize the work and prep that go into a trip of this sort, on both sides…ours and the hosts…!!! Oh well……they’ll never learn. But we know he works hard all the time.

WOW Michelle is sooooooooooooo beautiful! I heard the chilean President told PBO he thinks Michelle is good looking and PBO had the same sentiment for the chilean First Lady. I must agree with both men (no homo) lol. I cannot stop looking at this woman she’s just gorgeous and to know she’s so intelligent it’s like THE COMPLETE PACKAGE! Go ahead Mr President!! 🙂

Michelle is absolutely riveting. President Obama goes without saying……dashing. But Michelle steals the show.

I’ve spent a good part of today learning more about Bazil. I was curious about the capoeira demonstration the First Family was given yesterday. I had no idea that Brazil had a shameful history of slavery, not dissimilar from the U.S.’s. Capoeira, a combination of martial art and artistry was developed by escaped slaves as a form of fighting, and was an effective form of self defense and resistance against attempts of recapture. Then the music pulled me in a different direction, been shaking my tail feathers all afternoon(Ey-Macalena). I know the MSM is loosing their collective minds (and this is something new? – not), I am just not willing to go there today. Thanks to our First Family, I’ve been swept away, in my mind, to another culture, in a distant land. Thank you Obamas, for all you do and all you inspire, and helping me to preserve my sanity.

AnitaW, I was thinking the same thoughts about the two First Ladies. They look as though they have enjoyed being in the shared space. Our POTUS and FLOTUS look so beautiful. What a blessing we have. It is refreshing to see that we can enjoy them so much when they are in other countries because these countries seem to just fall in love with our Frist Family. I feel that they make us so proud. And thanks to Chipsticks for this wonderful site.

Wow, that last pic of PBO has got to be one of my all time favorites! In a sea of people he rises above, smiles and shines. It makes me think of him being the “chosen one” or something like that. His stature makes me think of President Lincoln and I also recall reading that President Lincoln was not adored and recognized for his brilliance as a President until after his death. I wish this country would stop the posturing and bickering and that they would recognize what a brilliant, thoughtful, humble, strong leader we gave in PBO.

Also, I’m with Mchelle above in wondering if there was any video footage from this event. Nice to see the Flotus with her hair down tonight. As the Furst Family represents the USA beautifully in South America they make me so proud.
