when they think “brazil,” they think “carnival”

Steve Benen: ….The good news is, the right has stopped obsessing over President Obama picking his favorites in the NCAA tournament. The bad news is, conservatives have moved onto something nearly as silly … President Obama landed in Brazil Saturday to learn about its booming economy, but conservatives called the trip a distraction from worldwide turmoil.

….This may be hard for conservatives to understand – when they think “Brazil,” they think “Carnival” – but Latin America has many quickly growing economies, and Obama is visiting the region to promote trade and open markets. The point is to take steps that will strengthen the U.S. economy, which the right should at least pretend to care about.

What’s more, the visit was scheduled months ago. It’s not as if the president woke up Friday morning and thought, “Fire up Air Force One; I’m in the mood to see Rio.”

I can appreciate why the timing of the trip may seem inconvenient, but the logistics of presidential travel abroad are laborious, and canceling would have proven problematic. Besides, there’s always weighty issues on a president’s to-do list, and if the White House had pushed off the Latin American visits until later in the year, there’d very likely be important developments going on then, too.

What we’re seeing from the right, then, is criticism for the sake of criticism. The discourse has reached the point at which Republicans and their media figures have to be whining about something at all times. Obama is stopping in Chile, Brazil, and El Salvador as part of a broader economic agenda, so the right feels the need to pretend to be outraged.

It’s quite sad.

The problem is that the “right” just doesn’t think at all. They have no idea what it takes to lead or run a country. That has been proven time and time again. All they can do now if have little tantrums and try to get attention.

I love the “man on the street” comments about half governor of Alaska’s visit to India. I hope she is done. I am tired of hearing about her.

Isn’t it preposterous? One thing I’ll say—the right is organized, they all get the same “talking points memo” and drive it home, ad nauseum. They were all on the braindead accusation about his NCAA picks, as if those few minutes prevented Obama from doing anything else presidential for weeks. And then I caught the C- student, at best, bully Mornin’ Joe and Crew, laughing their heads off about the stupidity of the Obamas going on vacation to the “carnivale” in Rio, as if they were going to be partying hardy, in costume, dancing in the streets. The right is desperate, they have nothing, and they appear beyond preposterous in their goofy attempts at criticism of Obama. It is indeed sad and pathetic.

‘One thing I’ll say—the right is organized, they all get the same “talking points memo” and drive it home, ad nauseum.’

If I have a modicum of respect for anything they do (I don’t), this would be it. I’m conflicted, because there are times when I wish the Dems had a bit of this togetherness (ex; Weiner doesn’t, IMO), yet I wouldn’t want them behaving like performing animals in the lockstep way the republicans do. I guess, I’d like to see them reinforcing the President/party’s goals, but doing so in their own words, and with their own relevant examples. I absolutely hate when politicians, announcers, talking heads and whomever keep repeating the identical expressions/words over and over and over.

I don’t think this ever went past this one op-ed – and I think that Scarborough was contemplating a run for something (President, VP?), so he was trying to make a name for himself, other than “the guy who had a dead girl in his office when he was in Congress…”

The Republicans will fine something to criticize this President over regardless. If he had canceal the trip, they would be running their LL mouth, that’s loud lying mouth the same way they are running it now. Barack Obama is still President and it require him to do more than one thing at a time. And if this trip could help our economy, or help bring jobs our way, well what’s the problem. It’s a problem to them because since Boehner and the Republicans have been in control of the House, can anyone tell me what have they done to help Americans fine jobs? Boehner have even said that if people lose their jobs, “well so be it”. During the 2010 election, outside of the decefit, repealing healthcare, they talked about jobs, jobs, jobs. Well Republians were are those jobs? The President is showing that he can do his job, in the White House or in another country. We know what the haters are up too.

Here’s a little bit of ammunition to fight the rw smears about PBO’s trip to South America:

Benen is right. The rw is howling because that is what that group of thieves does best. If they were really interested in creating jobs in this country and in our economic future, they’d be explaining to their listeners/viewers why this trip is so important.

I think their howling also serves to obsfucate what they are failing to do, or perhaps worse, what they are orchestrating subversively. They are invested in the interests of a select few, America’s oligarchy.

I wish the media on the left as well as this site would quit obsessing about the right obsessing. Thats just what they do. If it were the other way around they would be critisizing the left for critisizing the Prez in a time of war. That’s just what they do and they don’t deserve the attention over it.

Fred, you are probably correct in stating that we should just expect the repugnuts to try to destroy him because he has their cookie jar, and they want it back.

I will probably never stop complaining about the frustrati trying to take Obama down. As I understand a number of OFA groups have driven the Obama supporters off of his own site. Apparently these unhappy lefties are using the site to try to bring down PBO. I have met some of these so called “democrats”. They have not one kind word to say about the president.

It fact the things they say about him are quite vile.

Steve Benen is spot on. His posts are always short, to the point and very insightful. His analysis of the juveniles on the right is perfect. It still amazes me that the traditional media continues to report on the Republicans as if they are a “credible” opposition party. We all know they are just nuts.

This comment from the post cracked me up:
It’s not as if the president woke up Friday morning and thought, “Fire up Air Force One; I’m in the mood to see Rio.”

Last week the White House Press Corps kept asking questions about the status of the trip to Brazil. Was there anything that could happen that would cause a cancellation? They questioned the “optics” of the trip considering what was happening in the ME and Japan. Thankfully, Jay Carney advised them that we have very sophisticated communications these days on Air Force One. President Obama can be keep up to date on events no matter where he is. He can walk and chew gum at the same time. Who knew??

Anyway, I am sure we will be hearing more petty nonsense about the so called vacation, what they wore, etc. There won’t be much discussion about the fact that the trip was planned a long time ago to help promote trade and jobs for the American people. It just demonstrates how frustrating it must be for the media and the Republicans to find legitimate reasons to criticize President Obama. President Obama will instinctively do the right thing and in the end it just makes it difficult for the them not to look silly when they criticize him.

To the RW, you can bitch all you want. This black dude, PBO, has heard it all and dont ever think that he will ever lose sleep over you hatred and whining. PBO, is the Potus, so you had better get used to it. Wont these idiots ever get tired of throwing tantrums over anything PBO does? The thing is you wont rain on our parade, we here are having a blast following the President’s travels. To you I say, suck on it.

Won’t these idiots ever get tired of throwing tantrums over anything PBO does? – Answer: Yes, on Jan 21, 2016. And that’s only if there isn’t another Democrat in the White House. They are blind to reality, so they’ll be like this as long as he occupies that Office.

It can be very depressing when you have a group within a country who is always trying to undermind a great leader, but one thing that I am sure of is the fact that there are so many young people who worked so hard to send POTUS to the Whitehouse for their future in a good way, and you will not allow these few “old negative established men” take your bright future away. I love that about you all.(I am old enough to be your grandmother). You all give me hope, and I know that you give your POTUS hope. He is thinking, walking, meeting with leaders, monitoring and giving his orders, chewing gum, and thinking about how can I make and save more jobs with my partners for my country, all at the SAME TIME. He is not in for the “Silly Season” talkers. That is what gives me hope and joy about our President. He is working while these people are playing at the job. Don’t worry, when he completes his second term, a lot of these people on MSM etc., will be looking for jobs. Nothing to talk about then. They really do not know how to look to the future. Get on the train and make great history, or stand on the side, and make loud stupid noise. So sad.

Bravo, and I would add that the change train has already left the station. Everyday President Obama is in office he is effecting change. Change is slow, and most are resistant to it even will insisting on it. We all recognize the profound wisdom in Mahtma Gandhi, “Be the change you want to see in the world”. President Obama is the embodiment of that philosophy. The speed of that change is in part a reflection of how quickly Americans emerge from the political fog they have been living in, recognize their part and power in the process and exercise it. Grab a mop America….this is about all of us.
