st patrick’s day

Sorry, but it has to be done:

Supporters of US Democratic presidential candidate and Illinois Senator Barack Obama drink as they watch election results from Ollie Hayes Pub on November 4, 2008 in Moneygall, Co Offaly, in Ireland. Historians have unearthed records showing Obama’s maternal ancestors lived, worked, married and had children in the Moneygall area more than 150 years ago. Fulmuth Kearney, who is Obama’s third great-grandfather, left Moneygall for New York in 1850 to eventually settle in Ohio

Sadly, not much to celebrate in Ireland these days – the unemployment rate has just hit ….. ready for this? ….. 14.7%.

About three years ago, Ireland’s economy, which was, in fact, built on sand, was the envy of Europe, but the unregulated financial sector brought the country to its knees – sound familiar?

Same story everywhere, the same corrupt, greedy ******s bringing the good people down – we’re all in this together 😉

There is no one more Irish than O’bama, declared the new Irish prime minister yesterday talking to business people in Washington.

You know, the new Irish PM is called Enda Kenny. The New York Times called him “Edna” (and thought he was a woman) and Politico called him “Kennedy” today – hopefully the President won’t introduce him as Edna Kennedy tomorrow 🙂

This is a good pick-me-up from all the grief I’ve been feeling about the desolation and loss in Japan, not to mention the nuclear threat on top of it all. Thanks Chipsticks. The baby was cute, too. There’s nothing like a laughing baby to inspire laughter!

Reminds me again of Obama’s early days in Chicago— all the Irish pols there heard about this new guy in town who was getting a lot of buzz, named O’Bama, another Irishman they assumed, and were quite surprised when they got to meet him. As it turns out I guess he can claim an Irish ancestry, just not what they expected. Obama loved telling that story and did it so endearingly.

It says he’s talking to PM Kan of Japan. I don’t think they’re doing well in Japan…..I was distressed to read this earlier:

“A U.S. official also told ABC — anonymously — that the administration is pleading with the Japanese to launch what the official describes as a “suicide mission” to prevent a full meltdown.”

This is a harsh statement I am making toward the media, cat48. I don’t want you to think I am addressing it to you.

What is that suppose to mean? Trouble makers. Can they read his lips when he is not talking but listening. Are they on a secret line? An American President would never ask an ally to perform such a mission. I don’t believe it. He has sent his top independant specialists to Japan and their recommendations do differ from the Japanese with the information they have but we need to understand this is a fluid situation that can change by the minute. Never trust MSM. They like to puff themselves up. If such an anonymous U.S. official said that, they need to be fired.

I’ve heard this framing since early am on my local news radio. The phrasing is misleading and seems an attempt at creating another stupid talking point to use against this administration. No one in the WH, as we well know, would ever use phrasing like that. I do hope the PR under Plouffe is up and running, and begins NOW to run interference with this type of bull.

Thank you, Chipsticks, for the great pick-me-up this morning. I just got home from my overnight shift, and now I’m wide awake celebrating St. Paddy’s Day with this most Irish President, Barack O’Bama. I hope he gets to have a little fun today. I often worry about how can can handle so many crises and so much opposition and obstructionism and still maintain his admirable outlook on life and his ever-present smile and friendly demeanor. What a prize we have with him!!
