I have been in many online fights with “conservatives” about the first lady’s Let’s Move Campaign. They “resent” the fl trying to tell them what to eat. I calmly point out to them that the campaign is meant for America’s KIDS so that they can lead healthier lives in the future. The Limbaugh-bots are heavy here in Middle GA, but someone is listening and taking childhood obesity seriously here, because there are now ads running on teevee and billboards that are addressing the issue. I love the fact that they both tell GA parents to Wake Up! and realize that childhood obesity is a real problem since so many “conservatives” here seem to have their heads stuffed up their azzzezz whenever PBO or Michelle are mentioned. Instead of wanting what’s best for their kids, they’re focused on getting PBO out of the WH as soon as possible. Stupid, very stupid. Before I retired from teaching in 2009, it broke my heart seeing so many obese teenagers whose parents were doing nothing to help them shed the extra pounds.

Majii, I tell them no one is telling them what to eat. But I also remind them as part of a larger collective their health choices ultimately impact others.

It’s ultimately a challenge for each of us to take personal responsibility, for ourselves, our families, and the networks that support us. People that have an adverse response to her efforts probably have either grand illusions of self-reliance or don’t want to be held responsible for their personal choices. Quite possibly they simply reject FLOTUS for more base and IMO shameful reasons. It’s an ignorant and frustratingly petty point of contention, people that carp about it look pretty ridiculous in my eyes.

Majii, I will drink to your comments. I’m also retired, but I do work as a Cashier part time, at Publix, a Super Market. Let me tell you something, you would be surprised at the People that buy candy bars. This explains why they are usually very large, and obese. It’s not only the Children that buy lots of candy, It’s the Adults too. They’ll buy a soda and a candy bar, and call that a snack. When I see that, It just makes all my teeth hurt. OMG all the sugar, and nine times out of ten, they are unually heavy. It’s the Children and the Adults. So yes, this Is a good project that FLOTUS has going. We just have to admit that there are some Folks, and especially the ones that are on the “RIGHT”, that don’t like the Obama’s. One of the reasons Is that the Obamas are doing a very good thing, and It’s hard for them to accept that they are doing well. It’s just hard for some, to give a pat on the back.

I really like Corey Booker. I watched a very good documentary about his 2002 mayoral campaign which he lost to incumbent Sharpe James. It’s called “Street Fight.” Very revealing…..power structures, corruption, dirty politicking, the energy, organization and tactical maneuvering….it was fascinating. And totally reinforced how naive I have been about politics for most of my adult life.
Back to Booker, I hope Newark is doing well under his leadership, he strikes me as someone not unlike President Obama who is very intelligent, dynamic, inclusive and willing to take on seriously entrenched social issues.

He’s a good mayor. “Street Fight” is an excellent documentary.
