a basketball legend (and paul pierce)

From Boston Celtics’ captain Paul Pierce’s blog:

So I wanted to share this picture with you guys.

I got to meet President Obama a few days ago when he was in town to speak in Dorchester. I don’t get star struck that easily, but man … it was pretty cool!

I admire what he’s been able to do so much. I also had a chance to tell him about my charity program – FitClub34. Michelle Obama’s program Let’s Move has the same goals as my program – to increase nutrition for kids … makin’ sure our kids are eating right, exercising and being healthy.

He loved some of the things we’ve been doin’, which made me feel real good. I’m hoping we will get to work together soon.

Thank you Fred and The Only Adult In The Room!

I really love it when our superstars reach back to help the kids. We have a great group of superstars here in Baltimore that really roll up their sleeves and mentor the kids. They make sure our children have school supplies, winter clothes and shoes.

Yeay, Potus and our great celtics captain. Wow, Pierce is really tall standing next to Potus and Potus himself is one tall guy.

I love it when I see this happening with our young men in positions where they are doing good in our country and world. What an inspiration this POTUS is to so many young people who will carry on for us long after so many of us are gone. I thank all of you young and older dedicated and loving ones of this great country. Thank you!!!!

I bet President Obama was equally thrilled to meet Paul Pierce. They both have demonstrated excllence in meaningful, although different ways. I hope they raised a lot of money…..I can’t envision our country in any one else’s hands. Thinking beyond 2012 to 2016 is downright traumatic for me.
