“bullying is not a rite of passage”

President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama meet with students and parents from the Conference on Bullying Prevention in the Oval Office of the White House, March 10

President Obama opened a White House conference on bullying Thursday morning by telling students and parents that picking on kids isn’t a “rite of passage” — and he said that when he was younger, he was a victim of it as well. “With big ears and the name that I have, I wasn’t immune,” Obama said. “I didn’t emerge unscathed.”

In listing reasons that kids may be bullied, Obama mentioned skin color, disabilities and sexual orientation. “Bullying can have destructive consequences for our young people,” he said. “Sometimes we overlook the real damage that bullying can do.”

….with Maryland’s First Lady Katie O’Malley

First lady Michelle Obama sits with Emily and Sarah Buder. The Buder sisters started a letter-writing campaign to raise a bullied girl’s spirits and turned the project into a book.

    Good Morning to all:

I am so grateful that the First Lady and our President and committee are embarking on this great topic of concern with compassion, care, and listening to the many young people who are on our campuses who are going through this at this very moment. Yes, I feel that our President of these United States has the podium and the intellectual knowledge to bring this delicate subject to the Whitehouse. I respect our First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, and our President for approching this topic to open up the conversaton to try to bring national awareness to this very bitter pill for so many of our students and young college young people who have to dear with this type of bullying each and every day of their lives. I love our FLOTUS and POTUS for dealing with the tough topics that are tearing away at the heart of our precious young people. Thank you Mr. President and wonderful First Lady.

Hello everyone, and howdy do, as the old Folks use to say 🙂 I just want to say that we have a President and First Lady, that have a way of making us Americans, feel like Family. They are so Personalable and compassionate. Now I’ve never met them, but I’m here to tell you, that I feel like I know them, and for a long time at that. They Interact with everybody, and all kinds of People. There’s no BIG I’s and little YOU’s, In their vocabulary. They have a sense of Including LITTLE People, like they Include Big People, you know, Adult People. They are the kind of People, that treat People like People. They have a wonderful disposition, Personality Plus, Compassion like you wouldn’t believe. They give a sense of GENUINE Concern for others. There’s a kind of Humble Spirit about them that seems real. They are just nice People, that knows what It likes to crawl before you walk. They know how It feels to be among the “Have Nots”. They weren’t born with silver spoons In their mouths, and they don’t mind saying so. They realize that the Good Lord have brought them, from a mighty long ways, and so they try to reach back and help others. So I say FLOTUS, and POTUS, enjoy the blessings that has been bestowed upon you. I do believe you were “Chosen” first, and then you were elected, and this Is my honest opinion :-).

You make my heart sing with those beautiful words, Shirley. I too feel the kind spirituality of the Obama family every day of my life. They have truly given us, and God has given us, something great. This is why the devil is busy in this land right now. It’s a battle between principalities and we know who will win that one. Nonetheless, they need our fervent prayers and support to get through these troubling times.

I have to add, after viewing the full video of the gathering, my President is a dream. I mean, he is just too good to be true.
Somebody pinch me. On second thought, if “this” is a dream, I’d just as soon stay asleep. Atleast for the next 6 years 😀
