President Obama travels west on Thursday for a two day trip to meet with technology leaders, first visiting San Francisco and then, on Friday, Intel’s most advanced manufacturing facilities in Hillsboro, Oregon.

The President last visited San Francisco in October to campaign for Senator Barbara Boxer, then-gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown and Lt. Gov. candidate Gavin Newsom, all of whom won their seats.

After attending a fundraiser at the Palo Alto home of Google’s Marissa Mayer the President walked across the street to greet a bunch of kids who were standing on the edge of the curb holding a sign that told the president how much they love him.

He bent down and shook their little hands. “I wish I was in my PJs,” he told one girl who was wearing hers. “Thank you so much for the sign,” he said to the kids holding it up.

….as Obama continued down the line, a boy piped up. “Show him your picture,” he said loudly. It was enough to encourage another, shier boy to produce two drawings he’d made for Obama. He handed them over to the president, who thanked him and held them out for inspection.

One drawing was of Obama as a stick-figure in a suit with a very red face … “Now, I’m a little red-faced,” Obama said playfully as he examined the rendering of himself. “This is after I’m talking to some of my Republican colleagues,” he concluded.

I continue to be moved by how tender and responsive PO is to children. Surely the sign of a humble heart. May God, and the secret service, continue to look after him. I am 79 and worked hard in 2008 to get him elected and am ready to do the same in 2012. He measures up in every way. And thanks Chipsticks for this amazing site! It is my go-to place to keep current on our fabulous first family.

This was such a delightful exchange…..I am sure those children will never forget how much their President appreciated their artwork and their kind thoughts.

The young ones pretty much can tell ones heart and goodness in them, thus the little kids tend to like the President because deep down they know he is a genuine person. That was soo sweet, it a day they will live to remember.

I only remember Bush holding one baby at arms length as the baby was crying and he had this what do I do now look on his face.

Yes, our precious President’s heart is so pure that little children are drawn to him like osmosis. He is so thoughtful to remark on everything they brought for him. His red face goes with his adoption by the Crow Indian nation as

I can’t image Silly Sarha taking the time to talk to children this way seriously she can’t even manage her own children.

These kids and their parents will remember PBO’s kindness for the rest of their lives. It is instances like these that make all the difference to people. By sharing a few minutes of his time, our president lets people know that he appreciates them and thinks that they are important to him and to this country, and they are.
