Awww. I love them. The PDA is beautiful. In addition to being just plain brilliant, prez knows how to work it in the romance department. Makes me want to go kiss my husband. Think I will.

ikr…I can’t believe POTUS being so frisky in public, especially boarding AF1. I actually blushed, *teehee* I love it.

      • February 13, 2011 at 3:04 pm

Naaa, i remember that, It was very windy when that went on the plane, and he was worried that he dress would fly and reveal a bit too much. That’s him being the classic himself. Always thoughtful. Especially when it comes to Michelle.

          February 13, 2011 at 5:42 pm

Maybe you’re right, BWD. It does get quite windy walking up those steep steps leading to AF1, and I’ve seen pictures where her dress did go up a little bit higher than that. But just in case the Prez wasn’t being his usual classy self (by trying to help Michelle stay intact), I think it’s okay. He touches her in interesting places quite a bit in public when he thinks no one is watching–sometimes the two of them seem to be in their own private world, and they just don’t seem to give a darn what others think. But the intimacy is always done endearingly and with class.

We will, pinkbunny, we will. I say we cuz we’re in the same boat. 😦 My marriage ended in December 07, even though I didn’t get divorced until February 2009. So essentially I’ve been alone for 3 years now. THose 3 years have been like a roller coaster ride, so I haven’t had much time to sit and think about it, but sometimes I do wish I had a shoulder to lean on. At those times, I give my Tucker a hug and kiss, and I feel fine.

You’re so beautiful – inside and out – it will surely happen for you. And when it does, it’ll be magnificent. 🙂

When I worry about all the ^%$# the President has to deal with, I am always comforted by the love and support he receives from Michelle and the girls. I have a feeling they will have a special Valentines day.

Now for my slightly related link – MomsRising.org has a suggestion that we send congress Valentines about supporting Health Care and early education, works for me.

Thank you for the video, Chips! And for that almost magical photo at the top.

When I observe the beauty of their affection for one another, it becomes clear to me that such great and tender love comes from SELF-respect. President Obama and Mrs Obama have been brought up to respect themselves, and to do things that build their self-esteem. They have both been taught–as we heard when Mrs. Robinson discussed her daughter’s early life, and when the President talks about his mother’s insistence that he learn to walk in others’ shoes–that growing love means giving it away. And so they are free of negative self-involvement; instead of guilt they’ve accepted responsibility, instead of self-condemnation and paralyzing fear, they practice self-correction and honest engagement. They behave as excellent models of adulthood, sanity–and by their capacity for other-centeredness, they make people like me want to climb out of our smallnesses and reach for our higher selves. And as we emulate them in challenging ourselves to be better, we make the world better. It’s all very Zen, very Golden-Rulee, very Valentine’s Dayish and makes one want to smile and weep quietly.

    Here’s some interesting reading:

Michelle Obama: Laughter’s Good For Marriage
    by THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Here’s Michelle Obama’s advice for couples this Valentine’s Day: laugh with your partner.

She says it’s what she and President Barack Obama do, and it seems to be working. Their marriage, although tested throughout the years by his political ambitions — for the Illinois Senate, the U.S. Senate and later president — is going on 19 years.

“I think a lot of laughing,” the first lady said at a White House luncheon with reporters who asked about the Obamas’ union. “I think in our house we don’t take ourselves too seriously, and laughter is the best form of unity, I think, in a marriage.

“So we still find ways to have fun together, and a lot of it is private and personal. But we keep each other smiling and that’s good,” she added.

It also helps that Obama is “very romantic.”

“He remembers dates, birthdays,” Mrs. Obama said last week on “Live! With Regis and Kelly. “He doesn’t forget a thing, even when I think he is. . I’ll have a little attitude. I give him a little attitude, but he always comes through.”

“Got to keep the romance alive, even in the White House,” she said.

As for Valentine’s Day on Monday, the first lady said her husband would do right by giving her jewelry.

“You can’t go wrong,” she said.

But Mrs. Obama also said they don’t fuss too much over the day that’s about celebrating love and affection between couples.

Last year, the Obamas spent Valentine’s Day at the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland.

In 2009, their first year in the White House, they went home to Chicago and enjoyed a quiet dinner at Table 52, a traditional Southern restaurant owned by Art Smith, the former chef of Obama pal Oprah Winfrey.

How will they celebrate this year? Stay tuned.

“We don’t make a big deal out of Valentine’s Day because my birthday was the 17th (of January),” she told Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa. She noted, too, that Christmas was just a few weeks before that.

“So by Feb. 14, we’re kind of tired,” Mrs. Obama said.

For her 47th birthday last month, the Obamas dined at The Source, celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant at the Newseum in Washington.

Boy, do I wish I had someone look at me that way. I will be alone on Valentine’s day, but I’m very much okay with it. I have not been as fortunate as some of you to find a true love, but I do wish all of you a joyous day tomorrow and onward. To be frank, after PBO, it’s made it hard for me to be attracted to anyone I’ve run into. He has definitely raised the bar for so many men. And I so love what A.L.ZYMERS wrote…..just beautiful and so true. The Obamas are THE role models of this stage in our lives. I so wish Stanley Ann Durham could lived to see her beautiful son in all his splendidness, and that Mr. Robinson could’ve seen his baby girl defining feminine beauty on the world stage. I also wish my parents could’ve witnessed our blessing of having them as the First Family. Praise God.

    • 43 Dorothy Rissman
      February 13, 2011 at 7:47 pm

Oh EDP what a wonderful thought about Stanley Ann being here to see what her incredible son has become. She was an usual woman. Wonder lust and the need to help drove her life.

I also want to say, I have found true love but it was not easy. MY wish is that you find that special person who will truly love you. Maybe it is a positive thing that you now set your standard higher. It is not worth it if it just means being with someone. Your partner has to acknowledge you as an individual, and that person must let you know how special you are. hugs. dr

        February 14, 2011 at 9:54 am

Thanks so much, DR, for your sentiment. You are lucky to have found your life partner. No,it’s not easy, but when I said I’m okay with my situation, most people don’t understand, but I’ve been a loner most of my life when it comes to romance, so I am more than okay. My true attraction is to travel- something I’ve always dreamed I would do in my life. Also, any man who would become involved with me would have to be able to support me in the form of a plane ticket…:-D

    • February 14, 2011 at 10:02 am

I too will be alone for Valentines Day and true love has escaped me as well. However, I was blessed with three wonderful sons and through them, I have been fulfilled. I am so proud of our President and First Lady and because of them, couples have something to aspire to.

They are one gorgeous couple!!! As has been said – the way he looks at her – it gives me goosebumps and makes me have the silliest grin! I love the way they love each other – its better than watching any romantic movie because it is sooooo real. When all is said and done in 2016/2017 – I can’t wait for the books and the movies about these two!

      • 49 Janelle
        February 13, 2011 at 8:59 pm

I say Regina King (from TNT’s Southland and Jerry Mcguire) for the First Lady. She doesn’t have the height, but she’s a great actress and has the face, cheekbones and the body. Regina has arms to die for like Mrs. O. I saw a recent writeup on her in Oprah’s latest magazine and when I saw the photo, I was like whoa…she really favored Michelle. Oh, and I do think Will Smith could play the President well.

        • 50 Dorothy Rissman
          February 13, 2011 at 9:47 pm

This is interesting, because I have always assumed that Will would be the one, but I am still undecided. For that our First Lady, that makes sense to me.

            February 14, 2011 at 1:12 am

I think Sinaa Lathan would make an excellent Michelle Obama. I have never liked Regina King as an actress – she’s too aggressive. Can’t think of who would make a good Barack Obama – the original is a one in a million.

      • February 13, 2011 at 9:07 pm

        Harry Lennox as President Obama.

Tasha Williams, or Aisha Tyler as Michelle Obama.

        • 53 Dorothy Rissman
          February 13, 2011 at 9:50 pm

I do not know Harry Lennox. I will look into it. Thanks for the suggestion. It is an interesting issue, isn’t it? We want to make sure the people that them are as unique and special as the Obamas.

        February 13, 2011 at 11:41 pm

Harry Lennix, Hill Harper, or Will Smith and even though he looks nothing like him Idris Elba would be good for our President
Regina King, Gabrielle Union, Sanaa Lathan, or Kimberly Elise for our First Lady

      • 55 danadevin74
        February 14, 2011 at 7:42 am

I think actor Harry Lennix and actress Tonya Pinkins would be perfect for the parts
Harry Lennix has already played a president in Little Britian U.S.A.

When I first saw that top photo a while back, my first thought was that there is no purer look of love between the first couple. I so admire his open gestures to the First Lady. They have a phenomenal love and they are a couple who are ideal role models for the true spirit of love.

  29. 58 NewCenturyWoman
    February 13, 2011 at 10:32 pm

While the first picture above is amazing, I think my absolute favorite picture of them is the one where they are holding hands while leaning against a rail when they were vacationing in the gulf area not too long after that big BP oil spill/disaster. You don’t see their faces, just their hands touching– ever so gently. I can’t locate the picture right now but as I recall, it is something about the way her index finger strokes his hand and the way his thumb grips her finger that just gives me chills. They are the only two people I have ever known who can passionately “love” each other in broad day-light and not offend anyone. Just beautiful.

    • February 13, 2011 at 10:41 pm

It’s hard to have a favorite, but the photo you mention is also one of my all time favorites. It not only speaks volumes about their love for each other but it always reminds me of the quote, “Hands that serve are holier than lips that pray.” – Sathya Sai Baba (I think)

Thanks for the great video and great website. Our POTUS and FLOTUS walk the talk: strong family, much love, gratitude for their blessings of each other, family, friends, and the opportunity to serve.
For nostalgia, Chipsticks, can you repost “Hey!” for Valentine’s Day (my favorite).

  31. February 13, 2011 at 11:23 pm

I do think that they are a great looking couple. They compliment each other so well. The pictures are marvelous.

  32. February 13, 2011 at 11:25 pm

This video is also one of my favorites:

And also the “god damn you’re beautiful” video of the obamas which I know you have Chipsticks.

  33. February 14, 2011 at 12:27 pm

I wonder if the Obamas’ obvious love and respect for one another might cause a new wave of solid marriages in this country. Solid and loving. That wonderful look the president is giving Michelle is so perfect for everyone — men as well as women and children.

My kids now have grownup kids themselves, the older kids that is, but I sent that picture of Obama’s looking at Michelle to all of them for Valentine’s day. They all love Obama and admire Michelle for her beauty and wonderful nature. I just printed one out for my husband, too. That look! Goodness. His dark eyes help.

And to those who are alone, you will find someone to love you. It happens. It happened to me and we’ve been married a year and a half short of fifty years now. Of course, I’ve lived longer than I ever dreamed I would, having lost my own parents in their forties.

Enjoy Valentine’s Day with your kids, your cats and dogs, horses and all, your home, your job, your gardens, be happy that you have much to love.

Joan, I so love your sense of humor, with a healthy dose of the truth…LOL. I too just love that pic of PBO looking at his wife. It’s actually startling, for those of us who are true romantics. Makes me blush, it’s so sincere. I too would love for this couple to have a positive effect on today’s marriages. Lord knows that institution could use a rescue. People first have to respect one another, and you can see President Obama really, really respects his wife, and women in general. Maybe this is why some men call him weak….I call it profound strength..to be vulnerable to the one thing that can destroy a person if unrequited, and that is true love. The Obamas inspire me in so many ways.

Aww,, I love this. In fact I love anything thats features the first couple. My favorite part of the above video is 2:25. I have never seen that before and I thought is was super cute.

    • 70 NewCenturyWoman
      February 15, 2011 at 1:57 pm

Mea,that little scene at 2:25 is something special, isn’t it? I believe it was taken from a YouTube video made last summer when the Obamas went on a family outing one night. The scene is special because it shows either one or two things (perhaps both)–the couple is just naturally passionate and obviously don’t mind showing the world (in a respectful way, of course) or the President and his lovely first lady have so little personal time together they have to squeeze in moments of intimacy when they can (even if it’s public). I’m a little saddened if the latter is true.
