People wait in line to see President Obama, Feb. 3, at Penn State in State College, Pa

Penn State: President Barack Obama touted the importance of Penn State’s research efforts in moving the nation toward a clean energy future in a talk delivered Thursday, Feb. 3, at the Recreation Building on the University Park campus.

The president unveiled the Better Buildings Initiative, a plan to improve energy efficiency of commercial building space in the U.S. by 20 percent over the next nine years. Integral to that vision, he said, will be efforts such as those taking place at the Energy Innovation Hub for Energy Efficient Buildings at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, a federally funded research initiative led by Penn State.

“Right here at Penn State, a university whose motto is ‘Making Life Better,’ you’ve answered the call,” Obama told the crowd of about 3,000 students, faculty, staff and invited guests. “You’re preparing to lead the way on a hub that will make America home to the most energy-efficient buildings in the world.”

I love the expression of the little girl in picture #3. She looks happy, anxious, mesmirized and kinda shocked because she can’t believe the president shook her hand or maybe I’m projecting because that’s what I would feel…..=o)

And, this is the president that the mouth breathers on teevee says is too aloof? Far from it! Pictures don’t lie, and Mr. Souza takes very candid shots of the president. I love seeing all of the young people standing in the cold to attend this event. The kids shaking the president’s hand causes my heart to melt.

Every time I see photos like these, I just get a big grin on my face. I have gotten into two Seattle rallies to hear him talk. The last one was just before the midterms. I got in line at 5 in the morning, and there were already several 100 people in line. He did not speak until 1 clock.

It was cold, but I was surrounded by people who love Obama. We had the best time, laughing, talking with each other. It was like we were a true community. The arena only held 13,000, so the rest of the crowd, about 8000 were seated in the football arena. The sounds, the roars, standing on our feet constantly to applaud and scream how great he is. Some times the roars would go on for 2-3 minutes. It was amazing. I am hoping for a third rally some time in the future.

Sorry I get a little nostalgic when I think about the times I got to be near him. I am waiting for a hand shake or hug.

I love your story – I almost managed to get into his last rally here in California for the Nov 2010 election, but I had a meeting at work that I couldn’t get out of. I’m hoping to book a trip to the convention in North Carolina – not sure what that will take…

My sister went to Penn. I went to Penn State. Big difference. Please fix your headline to ‘ah, welcome to Penn State.’

    We are… Penn State.

    THANKS!!!

Please change the headline. President Obama visited Penn State not Penn.
