Wow, Rachel Maddow sure does know how to break it down so to speak…interesting presentation. Learned much from it.

This is a terrific, historical look at left-right politics dating back to three important Republican presidents as far as social programs are concerned — Eisenhour:1956, Reagan:1980s, Nixon:1970s. In these areas, all three Republicans would be considered way left of center today. It shows the movement toward the right in politics so that the center moved more and more rightward, and how Obama in his STOU grabbed hold of the center and put it back where it belongs — in the center.

I’ve stopped watching Rachel for a couple of months, but I think I’ll go back. This was a segment that showed her thorough research and dissecting of political trends. Don’t miss it.

Good afternoon, everyone! When I saw this in the wee hours of the morning my first reaction, before she identified the president, was THE PRESIDENT NEVER CALLED ANYONE ‘STUPID’ – he never said that! Like you Joan, I gave up on Rachel early in December when she disparaged Prez O by comparing him to some quotation from Gandhi. I found her tone in that segment not only disrespectful, but extremely insulting and I was SO ANGRY I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO EXPLODE! It wasn’t the fact that she disagreed with his action, it was HOW she spoke of him. I shared my feelings on her blog and took a leave of absence. Since then I only return when someone mentions a good piece, although I really used to watch her nightly, and then I pick what I watch. All that to say that though she destroyed her credibility in my eyes that night, she’s on task in this segment (and a couple others I’ve been referred to since)! 😉

I know how you feel – I watch with my finger on the remote, ready to switch the channel if she starts her nonsense.

I stopped watching MSNBC pundits after the tax cut fiasco but I do believe Rachel is very intelligent. This is an informative segment.

I agree, she is a voice that needs to continue to be heard. Having said that, she has IMO, made some serious missteps along the way….I thought her rebuttal to President Obama’s address to the nation re the Gulf Oil Spill was arrogant and unrealistic. I let her know as much…IMO our MSM should be more invested in broadening our perspectives than in shaping our opinions. Thanks God we have communities like this, I call it the underground information highway…..we have capable minds and are free and able to formulate our own opinions.

I was really blown away with what “I Like Ike” said in his SOTU address pretty liberal by today’s standard. It explains why so many Black supported him.

AS FAR AS I’M CONCERNED…THE REPUBLICANS ‘TODAY’ HAVE AN ENORMOUS CORPORATE GREED PROBLEM. THEY HAVE PRESENTED CANDIDATES THAT WOULD NOT QUALIFY FOR ANYTHING UNLESS THEY OWNED A SET OF FLASHCARDS. THEIR ‘PARTY OF NO’ OPPOSITION OR EXTREME LACK OF COOPERATION IS AN EMBARRASSMENT TO OUR COUNTRY…THEIR LACK OF COMMON SENSE IS EVEN WORSE…ALL BECAUSE THEY WOULD LOVE TO SEE THIS PRESIDENT FAIL. THEY WON A MIDTERM ELECTION BECAUSE THEY USED FEAR MONGERING TACTICS ON THE JOBLESS AND THE SUFFERING. THERE IS ACTUALLY NOTHING MORE COWARDLY THAN UTILIZING FEAR TACTICS TO EXTRACT VOTES. FURTHERMORE…THEY COULD CARE LESS FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS OR SMALL BUSINESS WHICH HAPPENS TO BE THE BACKBONE OF THIS COUNTRY. THEIR ‘TRICKLE DOWN’ SCENARIO IS A FALSE COVER FOR DEEP POCKETS AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN UNTIL PRESIDENT OBAMA INTRODUCED ‘TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY IN GOVERNMENT. NOW THEY’RE IN A PANIC…THIS PRESIDENT HAS OPENED THEIR CAN OF WORMS. WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND…THE REPUBLICANS ARE STARTING TO DANCE…OH YES BOEHNER AND BOYS…WE’RE ALL WATCHING!…:)

I agree, pandering and exploiting fear is a tactic of cowards and the intellectually dishonest.

Respectfully submitted — Republicans have always been the party of greed, hypocrisy, meanness, and corruption. It’s their nature and they can’t escape that or they wouldn’t be Republicans.

Are they born that way, or nurtured to be such greedy, self interested and ambitious creatures? Silly, but I give that lots of thought trying to make sense of them.
