I remember the hope we had when John F. Kennedy took the oath of office that day. He inspired us to follow our dreams and become a part of this great nation. To work in our communities to help those in need. I guess that was when I thought of becoming a community organizer. It didn’t hurt that he was young and good looking.

MY GOSH…IT DOESN’T SEEM THAT LONG AGO…WHILE I WORKED THE CAMPAIGN FOR THEN ‘SENATOR OBAMA’…AN ELDER ‘WHITE’ MALE CAME OVER TO ME TO REGISTER TO VOTE. HE WAS SO EXCITED ABOUT ‘SENATOR OBAMA.’ HE WAS IN HIS 70’S. AS HE FILLED OUT HIS FORM…HE BEGAN TO CRY. I ASKED HIM WHAT WAS WRONG…AND HE SAID THAT HE HAD NOT VOTED “SINCE HIS PRESIDENT WAS SHOT.” YEARS LATER THIS MAN SOUGHT OUT SENATOR OBAMA. I FIND THIS STORY TO BE SO TOUCHING.
