Ron Barber, District Director for Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, is visited by Daniel Hernandez in his hospital room at the University Medical Center in Tucson. Hernandez, who works with Barber as an intern for Rep Giffords, rushed to Giffords’ aid after she was shot. While holding the wounded Giffords, Hernandez asked another bystander to put pressure on Barber’s wounds. He also asked Barber for his wife’s phone number and then shouted it out to someone so that Barber’s wife, Nancy, could be informed of the shooting. Barber was extremely grateful and impressed with Hernandez’s composure under the circumstances and had been asking to see him after he had gained strength following surgery.

    Dear Chipsticks,

I prefer lurking–but repeatedly you make me want to come out of the shadows to applaud you–to tell you are remarkable, courageous, tireless. And to thank you for all the good that you do, and for your generous spirit towards BWD’s similarly tireless efforts. The selflessness you both share is of incalculable value to the furtherance of healthy, civil dialogue in our society.

I wish you well–in mind, body, spirit.

    Thank you!

A.L., I can’t thank you enough for that truly beautiful message, all it did was demonstrate how I get infinitely more out of this little blog than I ever put in to it – I get to ‘meet’ warm-hearted people like you. Thank you again, you’re just lovely.

The memorial at Mesa Verde Elementary (Christina Green’s school) was really nice. One of her teammates left his hat with “We will miss you Christina” written on it. Very bittersweet.

These pics are proof that love, compassion, and hope are more powerful than hate. Let’s never forget that when we’re confronted by hate. It worked for MLK and Gandhi, and it can work for us. Our president, the FL, VP Biden, and Dr. Jill are showing us the path to a more perfect union— a better America and a better world.

This whole event is so heartbreakingly sad, but there are moving and inspirational stories about the human spirit which provide hope. Thank you again to chipsticks for keeping us up to date on all aspects.
