prayers for Gabrielle Giffords

(November, 2010: Representative Gabrielle Giffords hand delivers an Obama doll to the President)

ABC: Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was among as many as 12 people wounded in a shooting at a Tucson, Ariz., grocery store where she was holding a campaign event. ABC affiliate KGUN-TV in Tucson reported that as many as 12 people had been shot, including Giffords. A law enforcement source told KGUN that the shooter was in custody. Giffords, a Democrat, was scheduled to hold a “Congress on Your Corner” event today at a supermarket in northwest Tucson.

President Obama:

”This morning, in an unspeakable tragedy, a number of Americans were shot in Tuscon, Arizona, at a constituent meeting with Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. And while we are continuing to receive information, we know that some have passed away, and that Representative Giffords is gravely wounded.
”

“We do not yet have all the answers. What we do know is that such a senseless and terrible act of violence has no place in a free society. I ask all Americans to join me and Michelle in keeping Representative Giffords, the victims of this tragedy, and their families in our prayers.”

This is Rep. Gabrielle Giffords talking last year about threats made against her and other Democrats:

Eventhough no one knows yet if this assisination was politically motivated. SarahPac has removed that crosshairs/target map from her site.

Fred, it not just Sarah Palin running amuck, you can give some credit to about 75% of the Republican and about 25% to the Democratic Parties. No one tried to stop this hate. The Media shares in this also. We live in a capitalist society where the only thing that matters is money, money, and more money. Whatever it takes to to garner as many “Things” as possible. It is called greed. It saddens me so much today to know that Palin and the entire group of hate mongers have not only killed the people, but they have caused pain for their families and. friends. Mrs. Palin, et al this country has an non washable bloodstain because they could not control their hatred Sorry, Fred, for the rant, but your comment came the closest to how broken my heart is right now. To snuff out a child’s life for Nothing. Someone has to be held responsible for these senseless killings!!!!

And the MSM covers for them – as they are now doing. I understand that the website that Palin used to target congresswomen Giffords along with 19 other Democratic congresspeople who voted for Obama’s HCR has been pulled. But I’m posting a snippet from what was stated in that article:

“In a website launched on Thursday, the six-month anniversary of the health care law, Palin puts a bull’s-eye on 20 House districts under a headline that reads, “We’ve diagnosed the problem…Help us prescribe the solution.”

Included among Palin’s Democratic targets: North Dakota’s at-large Rep. Earl Pomeroy, Southeast Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and Virginia Rep. Tom Perriello.

“Join me in standing against those who stood with Obama and Pelosi in voting for this disastrous bill,” Palin writes on the site. “Let’s replace them with good conservatives who will vote to repeal and replace Obamacare.””

Utterly senseless and depressing. What are we saying when no one stops the hateful words spewed and gives ammo to those who refuse to move away from ignorance?

    This is simply wrong.

  16. January 8, 2011 at 3:02 pm

Feel so sad for the Congresswoman, her family and her supporters. Such a tragic waste. Reminds me of my childhood when they took the Kennedies, and MLK.

Have been reading the comments at MSNBC, they also say she may not have died.

    Here are the comments

“While I disagree with the immigration policies of the Democratic party I strongly disagree with violence. We have the ballot box for change. This isn’t some third world country”

“This is just awful, what is this country coming to? The hatred from all sides has got to stop if we want to keep this country.”

This is a tragedy no matter how you look at it. However it may also be a wake up call to those who listen to the extremists on both sides of the aisle.

If we can keep our composure and speak clearly our voices may now have a better chance of being heard over the din. Stay Strong.

  17. January 8, 2011 at 3:04 pm

What I meant to say was

    1. MSNBC says she may not have died

    2. comments from readers seem to indicate that they realize that the extremists have gone too far. Comment are shown in quotes.

    sorry for the confusion above

I have tried so hard not to comment about this. It is extremely tragic and sad. Too much crazy is going on in the last week or so. I don’t see how you don’t blame people who stroke this kind of behavior. I will not put more negativity out here. I am going to pray for us all; especially those precious people who was injured and kill today.

I am filled with a lot of saddness and anger – this is too tragic and really senseless.

too much hate has been pushed through the political system and media the last two years and this has been brewing

I hope that we can finally confront these public officials and media types who have been pushing people’s buttons using hate and bigotry. that bigot palin and the team of hate-mongers including beck, rush, roger ailes, hannity, bachaman should be very proud of the fruits of their rhetoric

      January 9, 2011 at 2:30 am

Indeed. The fact that Speaker Boehner refused to denounce the birthers in his party is some of the problem. By not denouncing them, you give them cover and move the boundary of tolerance for this nonsense. The crazy amongst us think that it’s ok to do this stuff, because nobody spells out to them that it’s not – and then you’ve got “leaders” like Palin fueling the fire and amplifying the noise.

    January 8, 2011 at 8:28 pm

This is such a senseless tragedy. I pray for Congresswoman Giffords’ full recovery. My humble condolences go out to the families of those that lost their lives. It’s heartbreaking.

Here we are spending billions of dollars in overseas wars to stop terrorism, when in our own backyards, people in positions of influence are inciting the very same thing. When are we going to recognize and publicly reprimand these people? They spew all this hate filled rhetoric and when questioned about it, retract their words… they’re “very sorry” about it. But the damage is done. There are enough people living on the fringes of society, enough people with psychological issues that take this kind of rhetoric and act on it. The people fomenting this kind of rage and behavior are as much to blame and should bear responsibility for it. Serve jail sentences if required, to communicate to everyone that people in positions of influence have a grave responsibility to set the right tone.

Can Sarah Palin please go away… to Russia, maybe? Could the media please stop publicizing her every ignorant word, tweet, facebook entry now? I hope so.
