ah, those principled ‘progressives’ at huffpost….

Mediaite: “Betsy Morgan, The Huffington Post’s former CEO, is heading to The Blaze, Fox News’ resident Star Wars aficionado Glenn Beck’s four-month-old website……it’s heartening news for Beck and for the future of his site. The Conservative author, TV host and radio personality was hit with some bad news earlier this week when it was announced that his radio show would be dropped from New York’s WOR station due to insufficient ratings.

…..Morgan’s new role is described as “establishing The Blaze as a premiere digital network curating content, community and debate and further leveraging Beck’s loyal audience.” Morgan, for her part, says she is “looking forward to expanding the team and developing businesses around topical content in all areas that engage audiences and drive a healthy national debate.”

Thank you Chi

Then again, we all know how easily Arianna Huffington switches with the political winds … one minute a supporter of Newt Gingrich’s ‘Republican Revolution’ and Bob Dole’s 1996 Presidential run, next minute a Professional Leftie. Whatever’s most profitable, hey?

And HuffPost calls President Obama a sell-out? 🙂

Thank you kellyamore1 for reminding us that Markos Moulitsas, founder of Daily Kos, was also ‘once’ a Republican.

“During the 1988 presidential election, he served as a Republican precinct captain and assisted with the re-election campaign of Illinois Congressman Henry Hyde” – yep, Moulitsas worked for the re-election of the guy who, “as a member of the congressional panel investigating the Iran-Contra affair, vigorously defended the Ronald Reagan administration, and a number of the participants who had been accused of various crimes, particularly Oliver North”. And the same Henry Hyde who “argued that the House had a constitutional and civic duty to impeach Bill Clinton”.

True, we can all see the error of our political ways and switch sides before it’s too late! But it’s interesting that both he and Huffington have similar political backgrounds. Brings a whole new meaning to the ‘Professional Left’?? Whatever way the wind blows……

OMG. Now it makes so much more sense. I wondered why HuffPo got so overrun with teabagger crazies.

*smfh* This really pisses me off. I can’t think of one so called Liberal blogs that I use to go to that have not proven themselves to be Conservatives in liberal clothing. I recently found out that the man that runs DKOS was also a Republican who now professes to be a progressive. Liars all of them. 😦

I’m glad they’re just finally putting their true colors out in the open.. its not like its shocking that once a rabid republican, always a rabid republican.. because bottom line- it IS all about the $$$.

This part cracks me up: Morgan, for her part, says she is “looking forward to expanding the team and developing businesses around topical content in all areas that engage audiences and drive a healthy national debate.”

Yes, because nothing says “healthy” like Glenn Beck. What.a.joke. Anyone that can go from working for a ‘liberal’ blog and then over to the absolute nuttery and dishonesty and RACISM of Glenn Beck- is nothing but a phoney and a fake, and pretty much an ’empty suit’.. to use a term ever so favored by the crazy right. And tells us all exactly what that face ‘liberal’ blog Huff Po is really all about too.

Sold! to the highest bidder! It seems so many are willing to switch teams, to go wherever there is opportunity. Many of the familiar names are just happy to be included in the big insider club, slither easily here and there through the revolving doors, happy to be invited to the cocktail parties, no matter whose, just happy to be there, staying close to the power and the money, no matter whose. I often wonder about these people—where are the convictions, the dedication to a belief, the integrity? Raise your hand if you could ever work for a Republican or a Republican cause, for any amount of money.

HuffPo is obviously People magazine which happens to feature more than your average number of contributors with left of center viewpoints.

While the Morgan going to Beck’s site is a switcheroo, you’re acting like people never sincerely convert.
Moulitsas and writers on his site may be a bit far in criticizing the President, but they still provide valuable information and activism for liberal causes. I found this site because I was sick of what seemed like reactionary blow-hards ignoring the good that the Obama administration has undeniably done. But this is becoming really disappointing…is it really going to be a big game of “I know you are, but what am I?” with liberal sites that do criticize the admin?
There are sincere criticisms to be had, the administration should be called out at times and those points should be debated for accuracy and refined for effectiveness.

Full disclosure: I was a Republican until 1994, so I obviously cannot ever be pro-Obama or liberal.

      Hi Hominid,

      Thanks for posting, appreciate it.

I don’t doubt for a minute that people sincerely ‘convert’ (uh oh, we’re making it sound religious!). Full disclosure: I was a hardcore uncompromising pig-headed lefty until about 10 years ago. The middle ground suits me just fine now, I reckon good sense is usually found in between the extremes.

I am, I’ll admit, definitely doubting the sincerity of Arianna Huffington’s conversion, I truly believe she is a fraud, a self-promoting political fly-by-night who would adopt whatever political position earned her most attention.

I still, though, have a lot of time for some of HuffPost’s contributors, many of whom I link here – it’s just Arianna and the people who actually run the site that I find laughable. If today’s figures showed the employment rate was at 99.9%, the HuffPost headline would be: “OBAMA FAILS AMERICA – 0.1% UNEMPLOYED.” Truly. The site is just a Professional Left comic now.

And, for me, there is just no rational explanation for a former Huffington Post CEO becoming the head of Glenn Beck’s website – other than her being a political mercenary. It really does make me wonder about the class of people the site hires, never mind appoints to such senior positions.

I was never a regular at DK, so other than what my friends have told me I don’t know enough about what’s going on there to judge it. Yes, I confess, I wonder about someone who worked for the re-election of a right wing reactionary and then woke up one day and decided he was a left-leaning Democrat – which is a hell of a political leap – but that’s just me being a world-weary cynic!

But, again, DK is host to many great contributors who I hugely admire, even if I don’t always agree with them. So I shouldn’t tar DK with the same brush. Whatever faults I might think it has, I don’t believe it’s a cynical, disingenuous traffic-seeking exercise. I do, though, believe it has been overrun – like Democratic Underground – by people who like to think they are ‘progressives’, but are simply ideologues who would prefer no progress at all if it’s not ‘perfect’ progress. So, tough luck on those kids with pre-existing conditions who now have coverage, the healthcare bill isn’t ideologically pure.

Sorry for going on, Hominid, but I completely admit, what you’re seeing here – especially from me – is an angry backlash against the ceaseless ranting about everything done by this administration from many – not all – at Huff Post and DK, and curiosity about what seems to be an agenda of blanket opposition. I’ve lost count of the number of rational moderates who had to leave those sites because they just found them so utterly negative and hateful.

All I try to do here is (unashamedly) try to balance out that incessant negativity by highlighting the more positive news that is almost completely ignored by most at DK, Huff Post and the mainstream media. You referred to liberal sites that criticise the President – I honestly can’t think of one that is anything but critical.

I’m sure you’ll find it hard to believe – and I don’t blame you! – but, genuinely, I don’t think President Obama and his administration are perfect, even if I am inspired by his leadership and achievements through incredibly difficult times. And I do welcome and enjoy debate about his decisions and direction – he, after all, has often urged his supporters to challenge him. We should do that, but, I think, in a constructive way.

Thanks again Hominid, and sorry again for going on and on!

Your answer was awesome, and I appreciate it. If you’re not aware of it, I highly recommend The Only Adult in the Room: http://blackwaterdog.wordpress.com/ and EclecticaBlog: http://www.eclectablog.com/ who have a very similar liberal-leaning but still non-shrill, non-reactionary approach – and I think they’re pretty pro-Obama because of the good he’s done, vs. simply following along. The most mainstream example I can think of is Ezra Klein, who gets in pretty good with the statistics and economic analysis.

Thanks again for actually engaging me in this way, beyond what my reply warranted. I’m glad I found places online that are pretty close to how I’ve been seeing things.

I left DK, FDL, and Huffpo, not because of the criticism of the president that I found there, but because it was no longer focused on his policies, and the criticism devolved from reasonable to venomous and downright vicious. It was also depressing for me to see some of my favorite go to sites transformed into left-wing attack machines. On the newly developed pragmati-focused blogs, we often disagree with each other, but we don’t make ad hominen attacks on the president or on each other. I have been an unabashed liberal since I cast my first vote in 1972, and I’m pro-Obama. I don’t mean to offend you, but I feel the need to speak clearly. It is beyond rude to come to a blog and make rules for those who post there to follow. It sounds to me like you need your own blog if you don’t like what regular posters here have to say. The attitude that you display in your post is the reason I no longer visit the aforementioned sites.

Sorry, Chipsticks, but it burns me that authoritarian-minded interlopers feel they have the right to chastise us for our comments. The blog name says it all. It’s The Obama Diary.

      • January 7, 2011 at 9:25 pm

Hey Majii, I’m with you, trust me, but I let Hominid’s comment through because it wasn’t at all abusive, s/he was simply expressing an honest opinion about what we all had to say about DK and HP. I have always promised that I will keep out the hate, and I will, but I don’t believe Hominid is a ‘hater’ – and we should never be afraid to debate with sincere people.

I am really curious about your full disclosure, and the expressed absolute that you could never ever be either pro-Obama or liberal. What does the label liberal signify to you? What does being pro-Obama signify to you? Labels explain nothing, IMO….can you share why you chose to identify as a Republican, and why you no longer choose to? I would sincerely like to understand your reasons for rejecting the possibility of ever being pro-Obama.

Full disclosure I don’t subscribe to absolutes…..and I find labels factless and uninformative, but I do think it is important to share perspectives. I hope you will consider engaging in this discussion.

This just another example of why I love this place, I learn something new every day. I was aware of Arianna’s political past but not Markos’. Now that I do, things make so much more sense to me, where it’s concerning him. I knew something wasn’t right but I just couldn’t put my finger on it. For someone that is so often trotted out in the media as so Liberal/Progressive, he never really quite fit the description to me. Now I understand why. Thanks, Chipsticks!

On a side note, I’m a Level 2 Community Moderator on HP. If you think the stuff that’s on there is bad, you should see some of the stuff I have to delete. Astonishing to say the very least.

Hiya Mrs JVD, thank you so much for visiting and for your comment, it’s completely lovely to have you here!

I don’t envy your job as a HP moderator, I don’t even want to imagine the stuff you have to delete, but you’re great to take on that task to keep out the worst of the worst.

Again, you’re so welcome here, thank you for dropping by! 😉

TThank you so much Chip for sharing this…

It is pertinent that we are all privy to as much information as is out there including the stories and backgrounds of those who’ve cast themselves as hound dogs and arbiters of the truth with regard to the Presidency of Barack Obama…

The idea that President Obama must be held to some humanly unattainable standard where he naturally falls short of perfection and is then gleefully and endlessly dissected, psycho-analyzed, demeaned, attacked, denigrated and cast in such unfavorable light, is ridiculous to say the very least…

I come to this site because I finally tired of the endless nitpicking and near obsessive and rather curious and questionable insistence that this President must be criticized no matter how silly, petty, short-sighted, uninformed, demeaning and destructive the substance or lack thereof, form and tone the criticism …

I frankly have no more use or time for anyone – stealth or brazen – who comes at this President mostly or solely to nitpick and diminish him and/or his many incredible accomplishments and all within just 2 years…

I am actually no longer interested in having any more “discussions” and/or so-called “criticism” (no matter how “constructive”) with regard to this President…

I’ve had enough…and for those who still crave or desire it, there are tons of sites out there that like cheap all you can eat buffets, offer up as much of that “discuss and criticize Obama” stuff in all its many contrived incarnations, as one can take…

I am very much satisfied that President Obama with much dignity, decency, integrity, honor, grace, maturity, focus, brilliance and foresight continues to meet and in every instance, exceed the many demands and call of his office and sworn oath, and the near uniform standards set for and by every other United States President before him… Even when he has been denied and begrudged the perks of this highest office of our land…

I refuse to put out disclaimers – as many would have us do as we support this amazing President…

I also refuse to preface or end my statements of support with the now ubiquitous “I don’t always agree with everything he does…”

    I remain unabashed, unapologetic and unyielding in my awe of, admiration for and fierce support of this most spectacular President;

And I will not cede any ground until he is given every credit and accorded the highest respect that’s due him…

I realized what HP really was a long time ago. When President Obama did not do the things or appoint the people Ms. Huffington and like-minded people wanted they completely turned on him. I was okay with it for a while I mean to each their own; but it became clear how HP was using it’s influence in the debates that were going on. HP became a vehicle to purposely hurt and punish the President. They attempted to pull him to their side. I found this complete offensive because I especially remember the President calling out Sam Stein doing a briefing. The President was giving HP a big endorsement. I remember other press people being offended by that because they considered HP a internet blog not true journalism. He helps them out then they turn against him in an extremely taticful and hurt way. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! It is also nothing but a vehicle for Ms. Huffington to promote herself. Even Stevie Wonder can see that. Still I go over there for a quick look because I want to know things while I’m at work or if hear some news that I need better understanding. I hate to do it. I keep hoping OFA will do something like HP very soon.

I only started going to DK when I began pulling away from HP. I need someplace to go. That was a few months before midterms. I could not believe the level of hate or poor confidence they had in the President. Hell, Fox show the President more respect that those clowns over there.

I really love Obamadiary! Don’t change a thing Chaps! If anything I want it to grow. Maybe you and BWD can combined to produce something like HP but then again they have lots of money. I just know something more needs to be done to help support the President and the administration in the next two years.

We was shock to see Arianna a Progressives and Darrell Issa who have went on national TV calling President Obama the most corrupt President, and Arianna calling President Obama a sell out, she don’t say President Obama, she say Obama, she goe’s on Morning Joe and bash the President, we saw her last on C-Span along with Tavis Smiley and His Cronies bashing the President, she go Keith Show, CNN, trying to undermind the President on everything he do and say, it’s always that, but, now we will be waiting for her Negative Comments on Tuesday Night, now we don’t have to wonder any longer why all this negative talk,We guess Arianna are going to try and help Darrell Issa try and take down the President. We have been listen to the same Rhetoric of hate each day, since Howard Fineman, join HP he have been attacking the President, when the President went to AZ,he said this will be a definable moment to see who President Obama Really is,Our answer is he’s the same President we elected, he have accomplished more then any President in History, but hate just want give him Credit, now some like Arianna and other said he have moved to the Center just not true, people just never listen, he said his first two years would be about Legislate and he did that and still doing it, this year he is focus on Jobs, Economy and others agenda, it’s the People who fail to listen who just sit back and stand on the side line and whine, but what really is a shocker Arianna and Darrell Issa. Darrell Issa has a Wife name KATHY ISSA.
