hands up: who likes shave ice?

President Obama soaked up his last hours of vacation time with his family and gave locals in the small town of Kailua, where he’s been staying for the past 11 days, a bit of face time.

After a couple of hours at Pyramid Rock Beach on the Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Obama treated his family and friends to shave ice, the Hawaiian version of a snow cone.

As usual, the president paid for the order, handing a $100 bill over to a nervous clerk.

Outside, the parking lot was blocked off with yellow caution tape. Crowds had gathered behind it in all directions – in front of Bob’s Pizzeria on one side and San Lorenzo Bikinis and Clothing on the other.

…The President walked over to a corner of the small shopping center to greet a group of people who were practically standing on top of each other with excitement, their cameras out and smiles on.

He finished his ice and then greeted the crowd outside Bob’s Pizzeria, which had a sign outside that said, “Obama family welcome home! We have really good pizza.”

Star Advertiser: President Obama made the most of his last day of vacation starting with a morning workout followed by a beach outing with family and friends, a second visit to Island Snow for shave ice and a late afternoon visit to the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific with his daughters.

The president last visited Punchbowl one year ago today. Obama’s grandfather Stanley Dunham, who served with Gen. George Patton’s 7th Army during World War II, and his grandmother Madelyn Dunham are interred at Punchbowl. Reporters and photographers traveling with the president were kept at a distance during the visit just before sunset.

Island Snow in Kailua, Hawaii, January 3. President Obama and his family will leave Hawaii late tonight from Hickam Air Force Base.

Looks like Sasha’s hairbrush is on vacation too. :p So cute, glad Sasha isn’t obsessed with her looks yet.

There’s some real attractive photos in this collection. ahem. I like the granny who has his hand in both of hers. An excellent gesture. Hold on and don’t let go.

Sasha is so cool!! She seems so oblivious to the cameras and so content…I remember those days. I’m sure the First Lady has a lot to do with the great adjustment of her daughters. I have a ton of pictures with my hair looking just like that after leaving the beach. I could’ve cared less how I looked as long as I got a snow cone or some ice cream. That picture of her just made me grin from ear to ear—too cute!

I see one of my fave Secret Service guys there in plain clothes and a ball cap. *S* Always nice to see them close.

I think that’s the same shirt POTUS wore when he was signing the 911 bill – white with a Nike logo.

I see that the president got a little bit of a tan since he’s been in HI, too. I just love how people from all walks of life forget about their differences and clamor to see our president. These are the kinds of pics that should appear in newspapers and magazines more often. It would go a long way toward busting the rw lie that PBO is “arrogant” and is an “elitist.” No one who would see him interact with the public could cling to these beliefs very long.

Michelle!!!! Finally some pictures with her! I was dying to see her. As much as I want them to have lots of private time without any cameras…..I can’t wait for them to be back in D.C. only for the sake of seeing more of Michelle. How selfish of me.
I love the picture with the old lady, too. How gentle. I hope she told him something as nice as her gesture suggests.

Ikr. She’s been there since the 18th and this is like the 3rd pic we’ve seen of her. She is truly on vacation.

Hachiko! Too funny, but true! The “orange man” will not like this one bit! It still cracks me up to see POTUS in flip-flops…..love the look!
