National Journal: As Pres. Obama returns from a Hawaiian vacation to a more Republican Washington Tuesday, his approval rating in the latest Gallup Daily tracking poll sits at its highest point in eight months.

Fully half of Americans approve of the job Obama is doing, while 42 percent disapprove. The last time Obama’s approval stood at 50 percent was for the three-day, rolling sample conducted last May 29 to June 1….

The jump in Obama’s approval rating comes shortly after a lame-duck session of Congress that Obama hailed as “a season of progress” before departing on his Christmas vacation.

Hmm, I wonder if the LA Times’ Andrew Malcolm feels a little embarrassed now?

Malcolm: “Obama pays no attention to opinion polls, of course, because he’s so focused on the nation’s well-being. Which is probably another good thing because the president’s job approval has started down again. After all the pre-holiday hoopla over the “productive” lame-duck session of Congress that only added a trillion dollars to the national debt, the Democrat’s end-of-his-second-year approval rating has declined to 47% from 49%, with 46% disapproving of his job performance, according to Gallup.”

Meanwhile…..

Media Matters: We already noted that Andrew Breitbart blogger Dana Loesch posted the confused claim that the New York Times, among others, “underreported” the Tea Party story last year, when in fact the Times managed to publish more than 1,000 articles and columns mentioning the Tea Party in 2010.

Oops.

Well, look what else appeared on Loesch’s soggy list of stories the biased mainstream media have ignored: Obama’s sagging popularity

Gosh darn it, why won’t the press cover “Obama’s sagging popularity”?!

Possible answer: Because when a president’s approval rating remains essentially constant over a 12-month span, there’s not much of a news story to cover. But that’s just me thinking out loud.

Sadly for Loesch, her latest post appears on the same day that Obama climbs to a 50 percent approval rating at Gallup. But Loesch wants to know why the press won’t cover Obama’s sagging popularity.

Oh bother.

🙂

How do we fire these sorry “ass” journalists……if they in fact can be called that.

  2. January 3, 2011 at 2:56 pm

God, this man makes them all look like such fools, without even saying anything.

    Oh brother, indeed.

True that. You would think some of these people would learn, and yet they keep hanging themselves on their own rope.

    How appropriate is that pic?

Obama: “shhhh…don’t tell Andrew he’s about to make an ass of himself”

It’s been quite a year since I’ve spoken here last, lots of ups lots of downs except for my approval ratings which have just gone down. But my approval ratings are still very high in my country of birth. Remember that, he will get back at the media at the white house correspondence dinner with a zing. I know chipsticks can find that clip but I always laugh when he makes the media look so foolish and they seem not to care.

I have to say that you are probably doing wingnut blogs a service by linking to them and blogging about them. why bother?

i’ve resolved to stop reading wingnuttery and i wish you wouldn’t force me to read it by blogging about them on this precious space.

i mean this malcolm guy worked for karl rove and makes no secrets about his pettiness and stupidity. do you have to take him seriously enough to link and blog about him?

    • January 3, 2011 at 4:04 pm

Wow! I’m promoting wingnuts’ blogs?? Bizarre! I thought I was countering lies with facts!!

Malcolm’s blog is hosted by the LA Times, it’s not some obscure personal effort like mine hosted by, say, WordPress – so, the very fact that it appears on the site of a major national newspaper grants it, sadly, a certain degree of authority. So, what’s your problem with Malcolm being shown up to be an idiot by the latest Gallup poll? Would you prefer if no one pointed out how hilariously wrong his post was today?

And honestly, how on earth am I forcing you to read anything?? You chose to visit my blog today!

I disagree, moi. Shining a light on the lies and obfuscation, while presenting the truth to counteract those lies, is a powerful tool to destroy them. When someone says, “The moon is made of green cheese!” and you prove, with pieces of the moon itself, that these words are either an example of misinformation or an outright lie, the person repeating that lie looks like an IDIOT or worse. If you just ignore the lies and they keep being repeated (remember WMDs in Iraq? Mission Accomplished? Etc, etc, etc, courtesy of BushCo?) people who don’t know the facts start believing the lies. Expose the lies to the light of the truth and the truth will set us all free!

I think it’s important that we counter lies and misinformation with truth and that’s all Chip’s doing. I understand you’re upset, but you could have expressed your disappointment a little more respectfully. This is Chip’s blog, after all, and she certainly isn’t forcing you to come here and read anything.

Just sayin’, moi. I hope you take that constructively. One thing I really admire about this little community is how respectful and kind we are to each other. Let’s keep that up in 2011 and not allow our feelings to get the better of us.

      Respectfully

How do you know Republicans are lying about President Obama? Their lips are moving. And that’s all they’ve got.

These people just writing whatever the f they feel now. No facts at all. I don’t know how people like this are not fired. If they can’t be factual over rather small things like a gd poll, imagine what is going on for the big issues. Then you have the purists on the left that complain about the administration not using the bully pit properly. *sigh*

Hi, moi, I understand your feelings. How often have I heard and read these lines: “I don’t even listen to them anymore. I don’t read that stuff. It just adds to the negativity. I just want to emphasize the positive”. We all do. But what is happening in politics today is unprecedented. The lies and distortions are no longer characterized as such by the media; they are now the “news”. So it is really up to us to take action to refute them, to shine a light on what has become a war of words. The opposition has only one agenda: the destruction of this President and his policies. Reasons for opposition and criticism are not needed; they are invented as they go along. Truth no longer has a place in their response to everything attempted by this administration. The well-being of the country, including national security, no longer matters as long as they can get some traction on their hateful agenda. So, please, bear with us as we try to even the playing field, to bring some truth and real information to the American public.

Rock on President Obama, rock on!!! Smart, good people of all stripes stand solidly behind our brilliant and magnanimous President!!!

Did you guys hear that another one of CNN’s sleazeballs John Roberts is going to FOX “news”??!! That’s really all we need to know about CNN and the “liberal” media!!! He leaves behind his new wife Kyra Phillips who he divorced his wife for and hooked up with at CNN. She stays on at CNN – for now.
The masks are really coming off now!!!

    Happy New Years All!

I am so excited to watch the other side of the President go up against the nasty Repubs. They are all talking so loud and bold. Boehnor (sp) doesn’t seem to have McConnell killer’s instinct; and the President still kick McConnell butt time and time again. I am so excited.

Oftentimes, the only way to get people to take notice and to correct the lies is by comparing and contrasting the two pieces of information. It’s difficult to fight lies if they aren’t exposed as lies. Based on what I’ve observed about republican voters for over 30 years, they tend to vote based on emotions/”values.” It’s up to us, the Pragmati, to reveal the lies by highlighting them and providing the truth about the issues being discussed.
