President Barack Obama signs H.R. 847, the “James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act” in Kailua, Hawaii, Jan. 2, 2011. (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)

President Obama took time out from his Hawaii vacation today to sign a bill providing federal health coverage for first responders to the 9/11 terrorist attacks who became ill. There was no formal ceremony.

Another product of the lame duck Congress last month, the 9/11 health care bill passed over objections from some Republicans that it creates another entitlement program with unforeseen costs.

Thanks to all who worked to get this done. These 9/11 responders are true heroes and deserve our respect and loyalty. How better to show them that than to give them what they and their families need to deal with their illnesses.

Thanks to Jon Stewart who stood up and said, “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!” with Republican apathy and grandstanding.

    I love the background!

Would have made for a sweet ceremony if Pelosi, Reid et al could have flown for some Hawaii sunshine 😉

That’s our President. He is clearing the desk, even in Hawaii, so when he returms to the WH he can move forward. Isn’t it just like him to do a little work on his vacation? I’m sure he has spent time on the SOTU address also. May God lead him foward.

Even when he’s on vacation, PBO never forgets to do something that will make a difference in the lives of others.

Today is my first comment in my 31 year old life. And it had to be on theobamadiary.com because of chipstick and bwd I have finally realized there is a movement brewing underneath all the craziness out on huffpo, dailycurse(kos). I discovered this blog two months ago and I have to confess I check it out maybe 5, 7, okeyyyyy like 15times a day and I wake up to it and I go to bed with it wondering what tomorrow will bring. So when chipstick posted how this blog had become popular I had to come out of the closet and reveal to all of you Obama lovers and supporters that am here and here to stay. Thanks for restoring my sanity back and keep up the good work.

Hiya Me4obama, I’m humbled by your choice of blog for your first comment! And I’m cracking up at your “15 times” confession, if a little disappointed that you don’t come here more often 🙂

Thanks so much, this little blog would be nothing at all without SANE people like you!

      Happy New Year!

The republican’s behavior towards the 9/11 responders was just shameful! I’m glad this bill finally passed and was signed by our President.

Plain disgraceful. The bill isn’t as a big as some New Yorkers wanted it but it’s better than nothing. This has also been glossed over, the MSM has been reporting on the President’s vacation.

Yes, we must Praise God for this President DAILY! Those 9/11 responders deserve NOTHING less – after all they went through.

My fears have come true am afraid. I knew that if I post my 1st comment I will get out of control by checking in even more. And I have to confess again that since I posted my first comment I have checked in at least 13 times. Do you think I need a therapist. And what do I tell the therapist that am an Obama addict or as my family calls me a stalker. Please give me advise on how to limit myself or else… I don’t know.

You just had to do it, Chipsticks! I have loved Rod Stewart for over 30 years. I think he wrote “Maggie May” just for me.

        • January 2, 2011 at 10:50 pm

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Maggie May, my feet are tapping uncontrollably as we speak!

          As for this…..

          And this….

Majii? You’ve sent me spiraling in to a world of Rod Stewartness.

          Thank you! 🙂

If you need a therapist, I need one as well. I only read and comment here and at BWD. I also check this site several times each day. So happy to see sane, intelligent, and informed people who support our president. Nice to see the long roll of his accomplishments and all of the people who are grateful for all that he has done for the country. There is a silent majority, far from the noise of the DC and New York media and politicians, who understand what the president has done and is trying to do. Who do not expect miracles (though the repeal of DADT is close to one)from the president; only his best efforts. We are willing to be patient; transformation takes time. This site and a few others allow us to give voice to our support and this in turn will encourage more to add action to speread the truth about this adminstration and to work for the re-election of the best president that we have had in my life time (voted in every election from the time that 18 year olds were alllowed to vote). Hang in there. There are many of us who are like you.

Before coming here I was a reader only until I couldnt help myself from all the positive energy coming from here. I truly understand the addiction. We all love and supprt our president and had to or, have to express it somehow to others that understand his spirit. I’m thankful for everyone here, and also I check it out many times daily. Ome of the best things I can do for my health

Very quickly, to respond to Me4obama and others, I came across this site from WSY, a very pro-Obama site, which I came across after being disillusioned by the allowance of troll infestation on the OFA site (Barack Obama’s original campaign site). I still post on OFA because I support the crew there, but the blog authors are so lax on cleaning their blogs that it is intolerable at times. I am more than grateful to Chipsticks and others here, and also check numerous times daily, for my breath of fresh air. Thanks everyone.

This was shameful and it shows the exact measure of our Congress. Please Obama Diary family, remember 2012 and vote these career politicians O U T-both Democrats and Republicans. These first responders put their lives on the line to save Americans. And from what I’ve read, the effects of this “Tower dust” asbestos poisoning could incubate for up to 15 years before health problems manifest themselves. I am really pi##ed. We have to vote every single one OUT that voted against the passing of this Bill. It should have been passed 2005. Perhaps Congress should only be re-elected when they vote for positive legislation that directly effect the American people. Can you imagine this?? Isn’t that what We the People send them to Washington for? They seem to always want give our President a Report Card. Maybe these “good for nothings” should be given one also.
