2011, day one

Star Advertiser: President Barack Obama is spending the first afternoon of the New Year at a sunny beach on a Marine base near his rented vacation home. The president, his family and friends took a short motorcade ride from Kailua, where they are staying, to Pyramid Rock Beach at the edge of Marine Corps Base Hawaii midday Saturday … Pyramid Rock has been dubbed “one of Oahu’s bodysurfing jewels” … the president began his day with a workout at the base’s Semper Fit gym.

Ah, excellent excuse to post this 2008 video:

This is fun to watch, even in my fairly chilly office! (Minus six this morning.) But evidently, the sensational photos going viral on the web of the president body surfing last year didn’t set well with the Obamas and photographers this time were told not (I guess forbidden was the word) to use long-range technology to photograph Obama shirtless while body surfing.

Never mind, we’ll always have 2008 — and 2009, too.

Yeah the Prez was embarrassed when his shirtless photo was all over magazine covers in 2008. Eye candy for us (lol) but didn’t sit too well with him..

What’s he doing on the cliff? making wishes for the new year? pretending that whatever he’s throwing in the water are members of congress?

This was last year or 2008. He is remembering his mom by throwing flowers where is she was buried in the ocean.

LOL……had to laugh at that one. He did, though, look like he was kind of performing some ritual. Would love it if he could throw that bunch overboard for the new year!

Hey Chipsticks, Great skinflick! heh Sheryl Stohlberg has an article at the NYT basically saying the press is upset b/c of the few public outings the prez has made and the “No Shirtless Photos” restriction. Oh well, it IS the president’s vacation. They should relax and enjoy Oahu. It’s a wonderful place to visit.

isn’t this the same press that spent the last 2 years complaining that President Obama was “over-exposed” due to his regular interviews with members of the press? exactly what do these people want from the First Family – sometimes it is hard to tell!

Personally, I am glad that the First Family is spending their vacation in the manner they have decided is good for them as a family at this time

Let’s be honest here. Having the Obamas as the First Family itches the heck out of press. Some are overly ambitious for whatever reason, some are genuinely attracted to them; others just have a tough time, still, accepting that those black folk really do live in that big white house, as free citizens. Takes a long time to banish old, ingrained belief systems and habits. Hopefully one day, they’ll get used to the reality.

The reflexive whine……the press seems to need to be upset about something, anything. I agree cat48—they need to relax, and un-whine!

A Happy New Year to you Chipsticks. How did that one get through?

    • January 2, 2011 at 12:19 pm

And to you Joy! That (removed) comment got through because the person has posted here before – and once you have one approved comment the rest get through automatically. She’s free to post here any time, I’m certain she supports the President, but that comment was needlessly catty towards other posters who were just having a bit of harmless fun.

      Happy New Year again Joy!
