‘White House Christmas 2010’ airs Sunday, December 12 on HGTV at 8:00 PM ET/7 Central
With the seasonal splendor of the ‘people’s house’ on full display, HGTV’s popular coverage of the White House Christmas 2010 returns on Sunday, December 12, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Designer Genevieve Gorder will offer viewers an insider’s look at how dozens of volunteers work with the White House staff to implement this year’s decor theme, “Simple Gifts,” a celebration of friends and family, hearth and home—all of the simple pleasures that make the holidays special. In addition, visitors to HGTV.com will see an extensive behind-the-scenes photo gallery of the decorating process, as well as a retrospective of holiday decor at the White House.
The one-hour special features President Barack Obama and his family lighting the National Christmas Tree and highlights the work of nearly 100 volunteers as they adorn the White House in only a few days.
New this year is a Military Appreciation Tree, an idea from the First Lady Michelle Obama that is designed to honor the contributions of America’s military personnel.
Thank you to the legend that is Hachikō – more about the show on the ever wonderful Obama Foodorama
My pleasure! 🙂
Thanks for letting us know about this!
I’m so happy to learn what your username is at GOS. There was a reason I always agreed with your comments! 🙂
Teri aka juturna
I’m going to be watching it for sure! Thanks for the heads up!!!!!!!!!!
I love Bo’s pic…..
Thank you for posting this. I’ll have to tell others.
Oh, Geez, I have to work till 8pm, meaning I will miss the first 30 mins of it. Thanks for the reminder. Cant wait.
I was really touched to hear that “Simple Gifts” is the White Christmas theme this year. President Obama officially became president at noon on Inauguration Day while John Williams’ Air and Simple Gifts was played by Anthony McGill (clarinet), Itzhak Perlman (violin), Yo-Yo Ma (cello) and Gabriela Montero (piano). It’s based on a Shaker song Simple Gifts by Elder Joseph Brackett Jr.
‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free,
‘Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gain’d,
To bow and to bend we shan’t be asham’d,
To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come round right.
oops.. White House Christmas theme. It’s been been sunny and warm lately here in California. Stay warm and a very “Merry Christmas” to the rest of the country having a White Christmas.
YOU’RE BANNED!
Okay, okay….I forgive you for living in a warm place – but just make sure you think of us poor shivering folk in the frostier parts of the planet.
😉
LOL! 🙂 Will do boss!
Right then, you’re unbanned – but ONLY if you promise never to mention sunshine again. Deal?
I won’t even mention the Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind. Promise!
oops. oh dear…
The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind? You know, there’s only so much provocation the frostbitten can take – you are a Sunshinebagger, the Sarah Failin’ of weather reports.
So little time, so quickly outed. Guilty Sunshinebagger here.
I feel for you Chipsticks 🙂
Hey you, just because the Caribbean is spared frost and ice and snow and slush doesn’t mean you have to send us sunshiney smilies that suggest you didn’t spend the day falling on your bottom as you tried hopelessly to walk to the shop for basic foodstuffs. Am i sore? Good grief, YES. But you enjoy your sun, I’m not bitter…. although my aching bottom damn well is. 😦
Oh my goodness, I did not know this. I just youtubed it, so beautiful. Thanks for the info northanger.
Thanks Kelly. And thanks Chipsticks for posting this. This song means a great deal to me & I’m glad “Simple Gifts” is our national Christmas theme this year.
Am anticipating watching this show tonight. It should be so cool.
