Salon: When the Mama Grizzly hit the Dallas area in 2009, crowds lined up to see her. This time around, it was a non-event.
I showed up about midday to talk with the Barnes & Noble store director, to see if I could get access as a photographer … basically, she said no, I couldn’t be in the store and take photos while Palin was there.
…. her reality television people were there filming the event. TLC managed to get Barnes & Noble to restrict other media access during the signing. The local news outlets could not videotape during the actual signing of the books; there were to be no print journalists allowed and no questions could be asked of Palin while she was in the store.
… Another big difference for this most recent bookstore appearance by Palin is that there seemed to be much less interest in her latest book, and perhaps in her.
Here’s the waiting line for patrons to get their books signed while Palin was in the store on Sunday:
Compare that with the line waiting outside in 20°F weather at the previous Palin event a full six hours before the doors opened (many waited in line for 14 hours) as seen here in December 2009:
At both Dallas-area events, there was a common theme. The people waiting to see her were devoted and enthusiastic followers, and almost all of them were a homogeneous demographic — there were very few people of color, which made that contrast stand out all the more.
One last note: At the Legacy Bookstore signing in 2009, Palin signed about 1,300 books. At the Barnes & Noble store, they set aside about 250 books for her to sign.
It was a non-event.
😐
Jeez, not even her North Korean allies turned up
Reduced from $25.99 to $12.99, but still only 22nd in Amazon’s bestseller list …. one ahead of ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid Do-It-Yourself Book’. Aw.
Could it be that the foolish are starting to wake up?
one can only hope. Let’s see if the President gave a book signing……
We can but hope!
Poor, Poor, Sarah. Mama Grizzly losing some of “crazies”? What a let down. I am surprised FOX or whoever let the photographers take this “skimpy” little crowd/group. On her first nonfactual book, the crowds were sizeable, so they say. This one, people are almost nonexistent. 1,300 to a 250 Believe those numbers, I don’t. It looks like there are about 15 people waiting. Maybe the other 235 are inside. You Think?
At both events, the brains were non-existent.
typical.
OMG, I just found out over Facebook that my relatives in KS went to a book signing. My cousin had her girls (12 and 10 years old) hand papers they seem to have written about the Health Care bill and the Arizona immigration law to Sarah Palin….young kids, I can’t believe it. I knew they were really conservative but I didn’t know they were this crazy. Man, you really can’t choose your family. The bad thing is, when they come to visit in Germany everybody around us will think they’re representative for the US. I will have to make our friends from WI come right after them to clean up…:)
Yikes, you poor thing! What I find now, though, is that ‘non-Americans’ make a clear distinction between Tea Party-type Americans and President Obama supporters, the divide has never been clearer or more obvious. I think before all of this there was a caricature of Americans, that they were all Bush-loving war-mongering gun-toting bible-bashing fruitloops. 😐 The 2008 election changed all that, thank heavens. There’s been so much focus in the foreign media – especially in the run-up to the mid-terms – on that divide that I’m convinced the days are gone when all Americans were lumped in together. So, I’m hopeful your German friends won’t assume your cousins are representative of the whole country!!
So I just figured out what AMERICA BY HEART means. It means she’s MEMORIZED ALL THE CORRECT TALKING POINTS, BY HEART, AMERICA. She’s so CONSERVATIVE, she doesn’t need to actually LEARN anything. Damn. Please go back to Alaska, Sarah. Please.
Sarah, Sarah, go away…
