More here: The only president since Jimmy Carter to constrain out-of-control spending by Congress was Bill Clinton. But deficit spending during Obama’s first term has so far only been in response to the recession, part of his administration’s expansionary fiscal policies which has included tax cuts and credits for most Americans.

hey joe! you’re a legend!

Politico: Vice President Biden mentioned Karl Rove’s name a half-dozen times at a fundraiser in Scranton, Pa., on Monday, charging that the GOP strategist is raising money from “shady sources” to attack Democrats.

“Karl Rove has his stable of billionaires, literally, and millionaires pouring tens of millions of dollars into close races,” Biden said at the event for Rep. Chris Carney in his hometown, according to the pool. “Does it surprise you that Karl Rove and his friends – Karl Rove, the architect of the policies that drove us into this ditch – are back raising tens of millions of dollars from shady sources, shady in the sense that we don’t know where the money is coming from?”

Biden told Rove to “tell us where that money is coming from,” and he filed a similar complaint against the Chamber of Commerce, a frequent critic of the Obama administration.

“I challenge the Chamber of Commerce to tell us how much of the money they’re investing is from foreign sources,” he said. “I challenge them. If I’m wrong, I will stand corrected. But show me, show me. Folks, they’re trying to buy this election to go back to exactly what they did before. Watch what happens in the next two and a half weeks, what happens here, because Chris is in a tight race and moving ahead.”

Biden said fundraising groups that don’t release the names of their donors don’t care about “the lives of middle-class Americans.”

big dawg delivers….again

Great speech by President Clinton in Kentucky today, at a rally for Jack Conway

Kentucky.com: Republicans try to portray Democrats as the party of big government spending while claiming to be the party of restraint, Clinton said.

“First of all, they never worry about the deficit except when there’s a Democrat in the White House,” Clinton said during his 29-minute speech.

He said the country enjoyed budget surpluses during his eight years in office, but when George W. Bush became president “they repealed arithmetic.”

He said President Bush left President Barack Obama with a $1.2 trillion annual deficit but now Republicans want to talk about balancing the budget. “Give me a break here,” he said.
